My question is, does the law state that a comptroller general of customs MUST be on uniform? I just need to get it right. If the law approves of it, then Mr Alli MUST appear on uniform but if not, I think the senators have forgotten their primary responsibilities.

It is a show of crass arrogance for the man to insist not wearing Customs' uniform. Again, this to me, is a show of lack of discipline which is not expected of a public officer.
To think that he asked if he was appointed to wear uniform makes one wonder if he was engaged in the military to wear uniform when he was in the military? And asking if it is the uniform that does the work or the man himself, is like suggesting that staff and members of the Customs service should not also wear uniforms since it is not the uniforms that do the work but the men themselves. May be our school children should not wear uniforms to schools since uniforms themselves do not study/learn but the students.

Those of you saying this man is arrogant are certainly blinded by the idiocy of the senate. This man can not be told to wear uniform like a school boy to a meeting, worse still forced to attend a meeting despite the senate fully aware he was already scheduled for another.

You may not be blind... but let me try to open your eyes. Is the Customs Service a uniformed service? ...like the Police?...like the Military? If yes, do they have uniforms to distinguish the various ranks? If yes, aren't they required to wear uniform when on duty? If yes, then he should know better that he has to wear it and not have to be told as if he were a schoolboy. He acts like one and will be treated like one.
On meeting.... if you are a supervisor (makes sign of the cross)... and you schedule a meeting for 2 pm.... then at 1 pm... the CEO summons you for a meeting at 2 pm in his office... what would you do? You are free to pretend you didn't read this.

My own is let's just call a spade a spade. The senate ask you to do something, why not do it? During the era of the past administration, do you know how many times the senate summoned the finance minister and she didn't show up for many times? The point is these so called leaders exhibit lawlessness and the masses support them. He as a person is asking my car that I was given a fake duty papers by his own customs staff to be clamped down, if I decide not to obey the customs on the highway do you know what will become the outcome of the saga? He wants to impose a law and he can't respect a simple instruction from the legislative.
