The Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, is in the news again. Again, for the wrong reason!

While Nigerians were still grappling with his confession that his ministry didn’t make provisions for the Super Falcons simply because he hadn’t thought they could win, his latest gaffe has to do with grammatical hara-kiri — the sort that could make his child in the Junior Secondary School wonder who is correct between daddy and his teacher!

In a video posted by Channels Television, Dalung, who was being questioned by the House of Representatives Committee on Sports over issues of disbursement of funds to the various sports federations, denied allegations that his ministry was corrupt.

In his desperation to defend himself, Dalung said, “The funds ‘spended were properly spended because we got them from intervention funds from Mr. President.”

Nigerians have taken him up on it, though, with various reactions all over the social media.

Why is "SPENDED" Minister not being probed? Is it because he has not offended APC hierarchy?

When there was question mark about Dr Jonathan's PhD, he quickly produced it. Ask Dalung to prove he graduated.

I'm not a supporter or admirer of Dalung in anyway, but trying to insinuate that he's not educated or that he's not a graduate or whatever, just because of a grammatic error, to me, that's dumb...except of course, it is clearly shown that yes indeed, the insinuations are right. Afterall, we see a lot of errors here on nairaland including by me. For a long time, here on NL, I was spelling "trash" (which means garbage or nonsense) as "thrash" (which means flog or defeat), until I discovered it on my own! I guess if it was someone else that discovered it before me, he would have declared me an illiterate person. In any case, is it even an offence again, for him not to be a graduate or to be illiterate? Ah ah!! .
