exactly, let me use myself as an example. I'm studying economics and at the same time going to a fashion school (part time) using one stone to kill two birds. I want to be self employed before I graduate. I'm also into beads and gele. I want to urge everyone to grab any slightest opportunity, even if it's weekend training. I'm based in Enugu
Thanks for sharing my dear

It shall be well with you

Tanks OP. this is what I have been telling unemployed graduates. drop that pride and learn a skill gone are the days when being a graduate is a big deal. I went to Abuja last year and saw how graduates are hovering every where with there certificate like vultures and I wept for this country. learn a skill and help your life!
A skill pays much more than what your degree would earn you in nigeria

Be a politician or government official
Its practically impossible, even yahoo boys these days, they learn how to press the keyboards and other skills too.

Without a skill, you won't make money, not in Nigeria...

Even a thief has a skill (Stealing)

You can enrol with some baking school or decorations...

For most times skilled people always prosper regardless of economic conditions.

People will always need food, shelter and clothing.

During economic downtown the quantity might reduce but will not become zero. Running around looking for someone to make you an employee is like looking for a parent.

Learn to be self employed and provide services. Our youth can spend all day browsing blogs but will not spend the time to investigate business ideas; what services are needed and what skills are in demand. Always asking questions and being lazy.
You're correct my dear

So after writing Jamb, Post Utme, running around for lectures, preparing for exam, getting a degree you mean I should still come and learn skills like plumbing, tailoring etc? My God! Life is not fair

Op, thanks for this. The earlier people realise craftsmanship is the way to go, the better. Forget all the certificates from school, it will mostly tie you down to work for another man all your life if you don't know how to think outside the box. Just today, i enrolled with a technician making Aluminium doors. I just finished training for today. Mind you, i have a successful career as an I.T consultant (Network administrator) and Gis consultant. The so called less privileged are making more dough than graduates

The young man you're seeing is a craftsman.
Today he made over #10,000 just fixing keys to doors in one of the sites I'm managing.

The other day, I met a graduate whom I paid #8,000 for some odd jobs.

And that's how they make their money.

On another site, I have Mr Pedro who has been contracted to handle all tiling jobs for the entire building.

Its a block of 5 flats, he's going to fix tiles all around the building. Guess what his pay is? He's gonna earn some #210,000

I asked Mr Pedro how long its gonna take him to complete the job, he promised to hand me the keys in 5 days.

So in 6 days, Mr Pedro would have earned 210,000 for himself, I supply the water he needs, I provide all the necessary materials needed for the job.

He'll earn #210,000 for the things he can do with both his hands, all he came with was a tape and a piece of paper, he's also currently on site, but the most Important tool he wields is his cutter, spirit level, a Pincer, chisel, shovel and his working clothes.

Now this is why I've been saying you'll earn more when you have more skills than a degree.

The guy on the pics is an ND Holder, today he made some #10,000 tomorrow I will use him again and pay him almost the same amount.

Adding that up, he would have made some #20,000 in 2 days. How much does an average worker make in a month?

Some white color jobs won't even pay you up to #85,000, yet its what we read for, fight for, drink garri for, we even sleep under the cold wind at night just to grab this certificate.

To me, I think vocation is still the best no matter what. Even if we're gonna be offered some paper called certificate, let's also bag some skill along with the degree.

Degree is good, but you'll earn more with a skill. The white people that are guarded with 4 armed men, carried on a fully air conditioned hilux, treated like some god don't even have a degree.

They're white, yes but all they have is some 6 months certificate on a particular skill.

Let me go an bathe now, work was fine today
I hope you learnt from all these?

THE FACT IS THAT SO MANY GRADUATES WE HAVE TODAY ARE JUST LAZY,
THIS DEGREE MAKES MOST TOO BIG FOR SOME SIMPLE JOBS THAT CAN FETCH THEM MORE.
DEGREE IS GOOD BUT SIMPLY USELESS IF YOU DON'T USE YOUR BRAIN.
I HAVE MY MASTERS DEGREE IN EUROPE BUT BELIEVE ME, I NEVER THOUGHT OF BEGGING ONE MAN FOR JOB
I CAME BACK TO NIGERIA IN 2014, TRY TO GET A JOB BUT THE OFFERS WERE JUST ANNOYING.
SO? I DECIDED TO START SOMETHING ON MY OWN, IT WASN'T EASY I MUST CONFESS BESIDES I KNOW OF FRIENDS
THAT WERE MOCKING ME THEN, SOME GOT JOBS THAT PAID MAX OF 120K WITH HARD LABOUR EVEN WITH THEIR MASTERS DEGREE BUT I REFUSED CONSIDERING THE MILLIONS SPENT IN ACQUIRING MY MBA.
I STARTED FROM A SMALL CONTAINER SHOP AT IKEJA WITH NO STAFF AND I HAVE TO BE THE CHIEF MARKETER OF MYSELF.
I WAS FOCUSED AND TO CUT THE LONG STORY, GOD BLESSED MY HUSTLE,
THOSE LAUGHING THEN NOW ASK HOW I DID IT, THEY ARE STILL STUCK IN THEIR ''RAT RACE'', SOME ARE MARRIED, COUPLE WITH RECESSION, THEY CAN'T SUSTAIN THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES, SALARY INSN'T INCREASING, SOME WERE LAID OFF, SO MANY HARDSHIP, BUT AS FOR ME, I REALLY BLESSED GOD. IN THE SPACE OF THREE YEARS, I HAVE EXPANDED MY BUSINESS, GOT QUITE A NUMBER OF STAFFS MOST ARE GRADUATES, I NOW DRIVE A LEXUS JEEP, MARRIED IN SA, TRAVEL TO CHOICE COUNTRY AT WILL, BOUGHT A PROPERTY,
AND LIVING A COMFORTABLE LIFE. I'M NOT HERE TO BRAG BUT JUST TO ENCOURAGE SOME OF US THAT WE CAN DO IT IF WE FIX OUR MIND TO IT. SOME WILL SAY IT'S BECAUSE I HAVE THE CASH TO START, NO SIR/MA, I STARTED WITH ALMOST NOTHING. THE CONTAINER SHOP I RENTED WAS ON CREDIT, I STARTED WITH IDEA NOT MONEY. I DID MY MARKETING MYSELF, I PASTE POSTERS MYSELF AT MIDNIGHT COS I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY SOMEONE TO DO THAT FOR ME. NOW WE RUN ADVERT ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND TV'S .
IT'S SIMPLY DETERMINATION SO JUST LOOK WITHIN AND ASK YOURSELF WHAT CAN I DO TO CHANGE MY STORY?
I AM HERE AND I'M REALLY WILLING TO ASSIST ANY YOUNG, DEDICATED, SERIOUS PERSON THAT NEED UPRADE IN THEIR LIFE, TAKE NOTE, I'M NOT GIVING OUT ANY JOB OR MONEY TO ANYONE, JUST BASIC IDEA AND ENCOURAGEMENT THAT CAN HELP. SOOOOOO MANY OPPORTUNITIES IN THIS NATION ESPECIALLY IN LAGOS. I CAN GUARANTEE THAT ANY SERIOUS PERSON CAN SMILE TO BANK WITH MILLIONS IN BANK ACCOUNT BEFORE DECEMBER IF THEY ARE WILLING AND READY TO CHANGE THEIR STORIES. LIKE I SAID NOBODY IS GIVING ANYONE MONEY. MY CONTACT 08064934353,,, WILL PREFER WHATAPP MESSAGES. best of luck
