The hospital planned a C-section immediately she conceived, but they didn't do this operation till 41weeks! I thought CS could be done as early as 35/38weeks. Why did they have to allow her wait till 41weeks? Of course, the amniotic fluid would have been depleted by then. May she RIP... |

Mehn I think it's time I packed my bags... Ah don try abeg. Unmanaged hemorrhage and cutting open anyhow in a top tier hospital? These things happen but cmon! She was a patient of interest, they had her file. There had to have been contingencies for all this, wetin na. We know some of us that are commoners have no recourse but to enter General Hospital with 10% chance of making it out alive, but not MART na. What is this in 2017?!Nigeria!! |

KanwuliaExtra:I doubt this, but still tacky as hell. Who allows a relation into the operating room while it's looking like a bloodbath? |

ifyalways:That keeps me wondering too. With all the bad news and incompetencies we have been lamenting on, the man still allow his wife to under go cs here. When we are complaining about rot in every sphere of our social life, abi d man think say na joke? |

jidobaba:The wife was already dead! SHE HEMORRHAGED TO DEATH PERIOD!!! She died from SEPTIC SHOCK! She lost too much blood and the tried to make her drink water to make up for the lost volume. The baby survived abi? ![]() He was already in the OR. Remember they told him to go home? Even here in the US, husbands are encouraged to be with their wives during deliveries. THEY STAY BEHIND THE STERILE FIELDS. Unless the operation is to be carried out under GENANES(general anesthesia) and the woman is put to "sleep". Which kain yeye sterilized field dey for inside Nigeria? Nor be candle and kerosine lantern dem dey use do operation in Nigeria? A Nigerian "butcher room" can never be kept sterile with lack of contant electricity to keep a typical OR cold enough to prevent incubation of SUPER BUGS! Let us say na "luck" dey keep most people alive in places like Nigeria. ![]() If na US this mess happen ehn? Oh no!!! Na jail all the DOCTORS AND NURSES for spend the rest of their lives I swear. How can you give LOTS of water to a FRESH POST-OP PATIENT BY MOUTH? |

jidobaba:They were careless period. 1. This lady was a young girl with no prenatal risks. 2. This was a 41-week pregnancy. Big risk for MAS(Meconium Aspiration Syndrome), a situation caused when a baby passes stool in-utero and swallows its own THICK, BLACK FECES. 3. There was no AMNIOTIC FLUID in the womb(all dried up) typical for those over-due pregnancy. 4. The baby had CAN syndrome(cord around the neck). Very deadly scenario if not managed properly. Some babies die of strangulation before they even come out. My questions? 1. Why did they not do an AMNIO-INFUSION to relieve CORD COMPRESSION FIRST, before OPERATING on her? 2. Were they ready for such a high risk pregnancy? 3. Any mass transfusion policy in place? I just had a Obstetrics and Neonatal Emergency drill last week at my place of work. I was surprised about how unprepared to take care of a BLEEDING MOTHER after a delivery. A company was going from hospital to hospital educating us on THE NEED TO HAVE PLENTY OF BLOOD ON STANDBY, in ALL high risk deliveries from the blood bank. If not needed, it can always be used on someone else in the hospital. It was an eye-opening experience. |

KanwuliaExtra:If they managed to bring the baby out alive in spite of all of these, I'm buggered they fùcked up the mother. |
| Re: Nigerian Doctors Butchered My Wife... by KanwuliaExtra: 9:27am On Mar 30, 2017 |
jidobaba:Because they were careless. They forgot they were dealing with TWO lives. All they concentrated on was the baby. They were not ready for post-op complications. Typical Nigerian unprofessional mentality. |

KanwuliaExtra:amnio infusion in a nigerian hospital? The private hospitals are just glorified govt hospitals, dey are all fhe same.....No facilities, no manpower, no nothing... The nigerian dr sometimes feels like the hosp attendant despite fhe book knowledge he cannot function well. Its difficult working in this harsh condition, unlike u Kanwulia we "manage" to save life, maximizing little resources to help many....Mistakes do happen even in good centers like urs.. The person who fabricated the story is a good liar... |

People do not understand Nigerian Medical System. I do and believe me when I say, having surgeries in Nigeria is not for the faint-hearted. When my sibling used to be a lecturer at one of the leading Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria, he said they should have lost their accreditation to teach Surgery years ago. And he was teaching my mates. Most of my older family members taught my classmates. Whom are now the Dr's treating everyone. And if things were bad then, imagine now. Private hospitals in Nigeria are a joke. There will be CMD, a Consultant Baddo. He will then hire Residents and GPs to fill in for daily clinicals. Those ones will be managing your case and trying to reach him on the phone when issues arise. Then he will call in other experienced Dr's and surgeons to quickly attempt to save you. The case notes that get to them is written by the same Residents and GPS, who may have made mistakes. And the senior ones will try to cover up any errors. That is what happens with even the so-called reputable hospitals. Residency in Nigeria is by who-you-know. They are constantly struggling to get spots in Teaching Hospitals. So how do you expect them to be superior Drs? Same issue with Schools of Nursing, the system rot is so bad. If you have options to deliver abroad, abeg carry your load and go, they are not fantastic but the basics they will sha get. The NHS they keep insulting is better than most of our private hospitals. I have no idea why this couple chose birth here. |
