goldfish80:At that time, Arsenal fans, lots of them cried out that Wenger should secure Modric. He was young then and could understudy others. He was way better than Denilson and would have done better. Wenger missed a good chance then. Just as he keeps doing. |

TheGoodJoe:Fans are fans. They don't know the day to day workings of the club. Tottenham took a risk which paid off with Modric. At the time, Modric was too light weight and nobody believed he could survive the physicality of the Premiership just like a lot are doubting if Ebuehi can handle the ruggedity in the African terrain. Transfers of relatively unknown players are straight up gambling, you can get it right, just like it could equally go wrong in equal measure. That's the reality. |

goldfish80:Please, it was not hidden that Modric was made for greatness. The reality is that, a lightweight Fabregas took the EPL by storm. What of Eriksen? Mata, Silva. Weight was not an issue. Many knew Modric was brilliant. There was an outcry for him. Just as the cry for Mandzukic after Eduardo's injury. Wenger is naturally slow in the market. That is not a debatable point. It is natural. |

TheGoodJoe:Oh so you know Fabregas was light weight and you wanted Wenger to sign another lightweight player to pair him in midfield with other lightweights like Hleb and Rosiscky. At this period, rugby teams like Bolton, Birmingham and Stoke tortured Arsenal with their agriculture football. Wenger was scolded by pundits that he didn't go for big strong players like Christopher Samba and the likes. How could he have considered Modric? Its very easy when you have the benefit of hindsight to pass judgments. |

goldfish80: I do not understand what you are saying. Denilson was lightweight. Did that stop Wenger from securing him? Wenger missed Modric big time. Wenger had other lightweight players, so the lightweight theory does not hold. He should have secured Modric as a youngster. Not long, the wonder player joined Tottenham and today, one of the best in the World. Bad business after monitoring Zagreb for a while. |

Humility017:"My biggest regret? I was so close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo, and not only did I not get him, he signed for Manchester United. So that of course still hurts today," Wenger stated. He was Pricing Cristiano Ronaldo until Ferguson snapped CR7 far above Wenger's Pricing Price. Stingy Coach. |

TheGoodJoe:Wenger actually wanted to sign him with Eduardo back in 2007. He rejected it because he wanted to wait. He rejected both Arsenal and Barcelona. Harry Redknapp also said Wenger didn't go for him because he felt he was light weight. Let's be honest, it was a period when we had Cesc, Rosicky, Hleb, Diaby and they were on form then. He was meant to replace Rosicky who ended up staying. |

Celtic Target Onyekuru Fires Brace To Take Season Tally To 15 In Front Of Scouts From West Ham https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/image-2.jpg Highly rated Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru continued his rich vein of form for Belgium side Eupen with a brace in their 2-2 draw against Roeselare. Second division side Roeselare found the Nigerian forward a hard nut to crack in the Belgium League qualification play off, pulling his side from two goals down to draw 2-2. Two quick goals from Roselare who are battling to qualify for the top league in Belgium via the play off put them in the driving seat, before Onyekuru struck to break their heart. Onyekuru drew his side level with two well taken place goals in the 53rd and 76th minute to take his season tally to 15 in all competitions, aside picking up 7 assists in what is his debut season in the Belgium top flight. In January, the 19 year old went on strike to force a move to Scottish side Celtic, but reports from sources in Belgium has it that scouts from English Premier League side West Ham were at the Kehrwegstadion to run the rule on the hot in demand forward. * Osas Mahawi Source: http://owngoalnigeria.com/2017/04/01/celtic-target-onyekuru-fires-brace-to-take-season-tally-to-15-in-front-of-scouts-from-west-ham/ |

Conte Speaks After Loss To The Eagles : Victor Is An Important Player https://allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/20836Moses.jpg Speaking after Premier League pacesetters Chelsea lost to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, manager Antonio Conte has admitted that Victor Moses is an important player for the Blues. Pedro Rodriguez moved into the right wing-back position in the absence of the Nigeria international, and the Italian has refused to criticize the ex-Barcelona star even though his side suffered their first loss at home since September. “Victor is an important player for us and he is having a great season, but Pedro played a really good game, ” said Conte. Moses sustained a calf injury against Manchester United in the FA Cup on March 13, but was patched up to feature in the last game before the international break, against Stoke City. He has 27 Premier League appearances to his name so far this season. Ifeanyi Emmanuel Photo Credit : chelseafc.com Source: http://allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=22575 |

This article is all about Victor Moses and his "indispensable role" in Conte's Chelsea. ........................................................................................................... 3-4-3 IS KEY TO CHELSEA'S GREATNESS - ANTONIO CONTE'S SIDE ARE VULNERABLE WITHOUT IT By Nizaar Kinsella An injury in the right wing-back position cost the Blues in the London derby and they became unsettled by a change of formation against the Eagleshttps://images.performgroup.com/di/library/GOAL/23/ff/diego-costa_1lyak3uuvznb219ao3olygub1i.jpg Victor Moses's importance to Chelsea was underlined as a change to a 3-5-2 formation against Crystal Palace left Antonio Conte's side unsettled as they dropped three vital points in the title race. Quick-fire goals from Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke, after Cesc Fabregas had clipped Chelsea into an early lead, have given renewed hope to the chasing pack in the Premier League after Palace ran out 2-1 winners at Stamford Bridge. Before Sam Allardyce's men pulled off one of the shock results of the season, Chelsea boss Conte had suffered fewer injuries than any other manager this season. He had also made the fewest changes to his starting line-up of any boss in the Premier League but he was forced into a huge one against Palace. Moses, who has emerged as the perfect right wing-back under Conte, was missing due to a calf strain and his absence left Chelsea unbalanced as Pedro looked awkward as a back-up. Pedro was focused more on his defensive duties than his attacking abilities and he was one of many players who were uncomfortable as Chelsea were carved open down the right-hand side for Palace's second goal. https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/GOAL/32/ef/victor-moses-chelsea_g4btrv6wdjkx1i9tfsdvtk2p5.jpg The Spaniard's positioning, in turn, affected N'Golo Kante and Cesar Azpilicueta, who were all over the place as Zaha and Benteke's link-up led to what proved to be the winner. Why Mbappe must stay at Monaco Chelsea's midfield and forward line wasn't as fluid or incisive with the switch to 3-5-2 and it may need some fine-tuning before the 3-4-3 can be abandoned again in the future. In fact, Pedro was dragged into three different positions over the course of the 90 minutes as Conte looked to Michy Batshuayi and Willian to answer his side's problems. Conte urged calm after the second goal, but his Chelsea players faced a situation that they hadn't seen for a long while, chasing a comeback after conceding twice. Aside from the loss of fluidity, Conte's men also lacked their usual ruthlessness in front of goal, a character trait that has defined Chelsea's incredible run in the league. Diego Costa hasn't quite been himself since the offer from Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian. He missed several sitters, including a point-blank range strike in the 22nd minute, while his second-half header from an Eden Hazard cross was wayward. The Chelsea striker may be on the verge of a second half of the season blip, with Hazard looking increasingly like he will be his side's go-to man in the final weeks of the season. https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/GOAL/89/11/chelsea-formation_1szc2wshclsfj11d1hoiyyyvk8.jpg https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/GOAL/66/d5/pedro_e6suv1zufqs717vgnc7oa8awz.jpg Tottenham have closed the gap to seven points after a 2-0 win at Burnley, while Manchester City will also be able to haul themselves back into contention, if they win at Arsenal on Sunday, but Chelsea remain the favourites and have earned the space to have a bad day in the league. Pep Guardiola's side face Chelsea on Wednesday and, if Moses remains unavailable, then City will be provided with extra hope that they can pull off a remarkable title comeback. Chelsea's loss to Spurs in January was quickly forgotten, while their defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal early in the season sparked a revolution, as well as a 13-match winning run. Conte is the master of solving problems that emerge during defeats but he will either need to get Moses back or conjure something up ahead of a huge midweek fixture. The 3-4-3 formation had turned Chelsea from Jose Mourinho's failures to the Harlem Globetrotters and it was sorely missed against Palace. Aluko turns match hero for Fulham https://images.supersport.com/2017/4/Sone-Aluko.jpg Nigeria winger Sone Aluko was the hero of the day as his solitary strike earned Fulham the maximum points over Rotherham in the English Championship on Saturday. Aluko scored in the 66th minute of the game played at Rotherham’s New York Stadium to further compound misery on Rotherham who have Nigerian defender Semi Ajayi in their ranks. The 28-year-old started the game but was substituted in added time of the second half by 16-year-old revelation Ryan Sessegnon as Fulham grabbed a good away win. It will be his sixth goal of the season in 39 games in all competitions as he continues to impress for the Cottagers this season. The Nigeria international opened his Premier League account with a trademark shot from 25 yards out, and the manager was not surprised by the quality of the goal, having scored similar goals against Derby County and Club Brugge. “(Ndidi) is young and we don’t want to put too much pressure on him. TheGoodJoe:Denilson actually joined Arsenal as a 17 yr old. He used to be a very promising youngster. Being captain of Brazil of U17 side tells you how highly rated he was. That should tell you buying young footballers does not guarantee anything. Even the coveyour belt that was the Arsenal academy had lots of promising young players who won the FA youth league. Players like Frimpong, Wilshere, Chucks Aneke, Jay Emma Thomas, Diaby, Benik Afobe etc. Nobody could have foretold none of these guys could have hit the heights years later judging, from how promising they were in there formative years. |
