Poor Customer Service By UPS Nigeria by proffemi: 6:29pm On Apr 04, 2017 |
Some educational materials were shipped to my department by an alumnus via UPS on 12/2/2017. The package was held by Customs, pending payment of customs duties. This is normal. Also normal is this: since the enclosed items are for educational purposes, they qualify for a waiver, and my department doesn't have to pay a kobo. The process of obtaining such is supposedly straightforward. We have used other couriers in the past, and the process has usually taken between 1 and 3 days. These are the sources of my frustration with UPS Nigeria: 1. When the package was held, I initially got no notification from them. On noting on the tracking page that the package was help in the "warehouse", I tried calling their lines TEN times. Each time, the line just rang itself out. No message, nothing. A notice eventually arrived by post SIX days after the package was held. 2. I emailed them, and they requested for the usual letter applying for a waiver. I sent that letter on 6th March, 2017. Till today, 4th April, my package remains seized. 3. My last email to them asking for an update was on 20th March. No reply till today. What manner of "customer service" is this? This behavior is outrageous. I have used UPS in the US for over a dozen years, and this is definitely not how they operate over there. Please who knows how to get UPS Nigeria to give me closure on this matter? 4 Likes 1 Share

You might need to visit their office in Gbagada, that's if you are in lagos... My experience with them too is not so satisfactory... 1 Like 1 Share |

bodejohn: Thanks. I don't stay in Lagos, and besides, I'm not sure it will be a Gbagada issue. I was told the matter will fall under the jurisdiction of their MMIA operations. lalasticlala, mynd44 could you kindly frontpage this to get more suggestions? The fates of my graduate students hang in the balance while UPS apparently twiddle their thumbs. 2 Likes |

The person supposed to deliver your parcel is probably in one pub watching Big Brother. When foreign companies come to Nigeria, immediately they land at the airport, that goat spirit enters them and they start misbehaving. Look at MTN, Coca Cola, Airtel and Co, same corporate irresponsibility and disregard for their customers. OP, go to Twitter and blast them. Copy the CPC as well as the handle of UPS in the US. State it clearly that the Nigerian office is ruining the years of goodwill built by the parent company. You'll see that they would contact you sharply. 34 Likes |

When people were insulting NIPOST here the other day I was just laughing. Currently, NIPOST customer service is better than most of these courier services. I use NIPOST registered mail for business and it's only very occasionally I have problems which is usually because a customer didn't pick up on time. If they were still making home deliveries they'd have been the best but that will be asking for too much for just N500 or less than N1000/kg. 4 Likes |

proffemi:UPS Nigeria is the worst in the world. They connive with the customs in the airport to hold your parcels until you part with an outrageous amount of customs duty, that's minus their high shipping costs. Never try using them again. DHL or FedEx pls 13 Likes |

Chartey:They do home delivery. They deliver my books to customers outside Lagos and it's always home delivery. I have used Nipost registered mail service for delivery to Canada and the united kingdom. The books got there in 8-12 working days. Very impressive. Just subscribe to the registered mail service and. you're good to go. 6 Likes |

proffemi: I just experienced the same thing o. I had to visit their office opposite gbagada with my lawyer to threaten them before they did anything. Finally, I had to pay an outrageous custom duty charge plus the super insane amount I paid to ship. I just received my shipment and its not even complete someone tampered with them and stole things. My first time using them, will definitely be my last. If you dont go to their office, no show. 3 Likes |

I had some item's mailed to me in the US from Nigeria in 2016. I was shocked to find out that the package was opened. I did not complain but the next 4 times, I instructed that DHL be used and I had a rest of mind. I will advise people to use DHL or NIPOST as others have suggested but I only used NIPOST once in 2006 and the service was not bad. 3 Likes |
