Wait till the six months has been completed. Say seven months. Walk up to H.R and demand explanation else you'll be working like an elephant. I know how annoying it is to be payed lower than your colleagues. Maybe they are more qualified , someone in the company is taking tithe from ur salary, or its just a mistake. If no reasonable explanation then the choice is yours to manage it or look for another offer. Goodluck

I was once in your shoe,infact i knw of so many guys that served in that same company that i worked then & after their service yr they were retained & their salaries were 20k higher than mine. All d 'empty' promises made by my hod yielded no result until we were all asked to leave late last year because of poor mgt & they were unable to pay staff salary.( Though d company was a typical example of man know man)who brought u to d company or on whose recommendation were u given d job determined how much one would b receiving as salary.So just pray to God for a new job.....A schl cert holder( driver earns more than a graduate in most of these so called companies i am a living witness)

Study to show thyself approved...
Make yourself a star in the company. Learn all the skills you can to show you are indispensable. No company will want to let go of its star. Just as Barca can't sack Messi or see him leave. When you are sure of your importance, woo other companies to test your bargaining power and check your worth. That will give you the confidence to approach the HR of your company for an increase in your pay.

First u need to know ur importance to the firm, ask urself if they can get a better replacement within a month.
Once u know ur value to d firm nd they can't do without u, u can demand an increase.

Confirmation is based on performance and its not automatic.
As for the salary, what your colleagues on the same level earn is not the isssue.

Its your bargaining power that matters, what you are been paid is it different from what is on you appointment letter?

But Listen up bro, just like it's been said by so many make yourself indispensable to the coy.
Hold on! Indispensable to a coy? That will be a good strategy just that it could be another bomb waiting to explode when you realize that after achieving 'indispensability' your pay is still 'trash'.

So, i would say you build your competence so huge for your next move/dream regardless of what the coy does or does not. Then you are prepared and waiting for the right opportunity because sometimes the 'trophy' you need is with other neighboring coys, ask RVP, Fabregas n co. Simply, see yourself beyond the coy it will give you peace and not make you complacent. That's career wise.

For the moment, before you end your six months probation seek for feedback from everywhere and everyone possible to establish you are doing very well on the job and it's clear to all including HR if possible. Also, understand the politics of your environment. See, their is politics everywhere, the problem is learning it and appropriating to ones advantage. Am not saying kiss ass, but if you are desperate enough, then..

Don't rely on only what your HOD tells you, build network within and outside your ICT dept. The truth is the clout of policy makers in your coy has a clique, identify them and make yourself visible. THis is VERY IMPORTANT cos if you make yourself indispensable ONLY on the job you have only aced 50% of the package. YOu can't afford to score less in this regard while the other can be managed.
HOwever, do the job well. Play the politics very well.

I think you should be patience and work harder. Also try to get something side by side for yourself.. This will make you prepared for future if something even happened against you, atleast you will have something in hand to further with.

The advice most of you have given are insensitive and does nothing to help his situation. A lot of Nigerian owned companies are unstructured and dysfunctional. They really don't care how relevant or indispensable you think you are, they can hire the next guy with same skill sets as you or even better. However, that isn't enough reason to stay in a place where you are underpaid and treated like scum.

@OP you need to take a critical look at your appointment letter,if it says you ought to be confirmed after 6 months of probation and you have done 6 months already, then talk to HR or whoever is responsible for such matters in your organisation. What I have learned about bosses is they don't want to have conversations or negotiations that hurt their chances at climbing the corporate ladder. If they can get you to work for free, they will. Your HOD may not want to ask management for a raise on your behalf because he may be negotiating one for himself or he wants a fat bonus as reward for cost cutting. That additional couple of tens or hundreds of thousands that you could earn may undercut his bonus, nobody wants that.

I just got a raise myself, believe me the path was tortuous but well worth it. When I spoke to my boss to thank him for the role he played in that, he said I deserved the raise and congratulated me for the amazing work I do. Amazing work ehh? Yet no one felt I deserved a raise until I pushed for it. The lesson here is, make a great case for a raise and you will get it. Do not be swayed by the band singing sad unemployment tunes, people are still getting hired.

Whatever job u have with the "big cooperation", I would advise to first know how and what the payment structure entails. I once worked with FBNinsurance and I felt underpaid for months till I asked peers and the boss about how the organization structured its payments. Not to bore you, I realised the payment structure wasn't for peeps like me.
So you need to know, as you should have answers to all the questions you might have on your job. All it takes is the confidence to ask, the timing, and the right person to answer it.
This I believe will give you heads on as to what your next decision will be. And i bet by now you would have picked a lot from the revealing comments from the page.....they are all pointers I must say. From me to you tho, Being an entrepreneur is way to go. I just rather you'd explore and function in your own way/thing (you can be an entrepreneur where you work).

On what being an entrepreneur really mean with the following points

Sacrifice: entrepreneurs also are willing to sacrifice. They give up family time and other personal time, they gave up the comfort and security that working for other people can give.

A willingness to make decisions in the absence of solid data.

Creative: entrepreneurs are able to make connections between unrelated events or situations. Entrepreneurs often come up with new and simple solutions.

Determination: successful entrepreneurs do not believe that something cannot be done, they try again and again till success.

Above all, Just be that person who is willing to help launch a new idea, concept, venture or enterprise and accept full responsibility for the outcome.

Hi, you can approach the HR if can, or better still send a mail quoting your achievement, deliverables and milestones you have achieved based on your KPI...it would be looked into I assure you...you would be shocked Some HRs do not have automated staff database...

If you were in HR of any organisation, this shows that fair is out of the question on your judgement. You could only pass for a bully, ungrateful that you that is short changing someone hired as much as you, could also be fired by God's finger too. Don't play god.

1. I want to believe @d interview stage u were asked what amount u would like to be paid. U must have told dem a particular sum.

2. U additionally got an offer letter where u would be told how much u would be paid and u signed against it showing u r comfortable with the amount.

3. U now complaining now is what I can term "not being contented".... I said it kos, if u don't know about the salary range of other trainees, u wouldn't be complaining.

4. I believe ur probation period will soon be over, so chill till ur salary is increased accordingly. #mypieceofadvice

Its not about lecturing what being an entrepreneur is about. I know it, but following the crowd is not always the best. At the end of the day, entrepreneurs will need and employ professionals. Some people are actually happy working a career they are passionate about in a well structured orgarnization and making a meaningful and happy life. No doubt, being an entrepreneur is good, but suggesting entrepreneurship to the young guy like the post I quoted suggested is not always the best. Its like asking a young doctor to quit and start a business just because he didn't like his first hospital's working conditions.
