NEW CAF PRESIDENT AHMAD CONSIDERING AFCON EVERY FOUR YEARS By Austin Ditlhobolo https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/GOAL/2e/9d/ahmad-ahmad_13vbbfsktt4s216lj1xk7osxy8.jpg Ahmad, who was voted in as Caf president after winning 34 votes to Hayatou's 20 last month, is expected to bring change to the organisationNewly elected Confederation of African Football (Caf) president Ahmad Ahmad has revealed that he asked experts to investigate a controversial contract signed by his predecessor Issa Hayatou. The contract sold off the continental football mother body's global television rights to a French company, Lagardere Sports for 12 years. Hayatou's administration sold Caf’s worldwide TV rights from 2017 to 2028 to the French media company which is based in Paris for $1 billion (R13‚7 billon). “The contract was signed by the previous Caf [administration]. Right now there are court proceedings against this contract‚” Ahmad said on The Sowetan. “We just got elected. I have now put the technical people to (work to) look into this contract. There are people who are specialised in TV and marketing to study this case about the contract. “We took a decision after a discussion with the previous general-secretary (Hicham El Amrani)‚ and we did that just to protect the Confederation of African football if there is any wrongdoing," he added. “This is why the previous secretary-general left office‚ and we agreed to it. “Now we are living in an environment where there must have be transparency and democracy‚ and we have to ensure that the new Caf follows up on everything that is not along with transparency and democracy," he continued. “This is why I'm waiting for analysis to come back to me before I take any decision. Everyone is completely agreed that it is not a good contract and not good for African football. “Right now I can guarantee you that I will never sign any long contract regarding Caf," he stressed. The Malagasy football administrator also stated that he will consult with experts on whether the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) should be held every two or four years. “The Africa Cup of Nations is the most important competition in Africa and even in the world it is the third-most important‚” he said. “I will open discussions‚ and consult the people involved in football‚ including media and officials‚ to discuss if there is a need to increase the amount of time between Afcons. “I am ready to listen. I am not someone who will make decisions on my own. It’s up to the people," he concluded. Ex Super Eagles Coach Oliseh Help Dutch Side Fortuna Sittard Avoid Relegation https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/image-61.jpg Sunday Oliseh-led Dutch second division side Fortuna Sittard to a comprehensive 4-1 win over Helmond Sport which guarantees them safety from relegation to the third division. Goals from Djibril Dianessy, Finn Stokkers, Christopher Braun and Emrah Bassan earned Oliseh’s side a 4-1 win with Giovanni Hiwat scoring what ended as a consolation for Helmond Sport. Fortuna Sittard moved up to 15th on the log courtesy of the win, and their point haul of 38 is good enough to preserve their league status for another season. Oliseh was tasked with rescuing the team from relegation when he took over the team in January, and the former Super Eagles coach has completed the job with games to spare. Following the success his contract will be automatically extend for a further two years as agreed in the deal he signed when he took over the reins at the club. * Osas Mahawi Source: http://owngoalnigeria.com/2017/04/07/ex-super-eagles-coach-oliseh-help-dutch-side-fortuna-sittard-avoid-relegation/ |

ROHR'S PRESENCE SHOULDN'T PRESSURIZE US - EL KANEMI WARRIORS' MICHAEL WARNS AHEAD MFM TIE https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/GOAL/2d/5/gernot-rohr_1oj986ftbukju1acq6oq1ghizf.jpg The Super Eagles gaffer will be in attendance in Lagos, but the Desert Warriors' shot-stopper has said that the players should not allow the pressure get to themWith Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr expected to be a spectator in Sunday's tie between MFM and El Kanemi Warriors ', George Michael advises that players should avoid being overwhelmed by the occasion. In a bid to continue scouting for players for the African Nations Championship (CHAN), the Super Eagles tactician is scheduled to be at the Agege Stadium to witness the encounter between two of the top three teams in the Nigerian topflight. A large number of Nigerian players, including the goalkeeper and the league's top scorer, Stephen Odey will be on parade. “I don’t think the presence of Super Eagles coach should put any player under pressure,” Michael told Goal. “The most important thing is to play your game, don’t try to impress and focus on helping your team. It’s good the national coach is going around seeing league matches himself, that’s encouraging. On the chances the Desert Warriors stand against the Lagos side, Michael said: “As for the match against MFM, we’ve and seen so much about them but we won’t be overwhelmed, we shall go into this match with that motive to win. "A win will be very good but a point won’t be bad either. That’s our focus ahead of the match," he concluded. Bro I was on his instagram page and was hoping to get excited on the news of his somewhat affiliation with the Nigerian flag/colors but I couldn't see it. That's normally a good sign. I'm afraid we may lose this guy. Germany hardly toy with true talents and what this guy displayed midweek was some calculated display of how to attack while playing LB. The real LB should be afraid at Herta Berlin. If this guy moves to a better club like Leverkusen, Schalke, or even Gladbach, that's it for Naija. Germany would cap him and Germany play so many friendlies. See what they did with Gnabry. They give you hope with all these numerous friendlies and cos of their top rankings they get very favorably qualifying draws and get weak teams like Gibraltar, Azerbaijan and co. These are the games they use to cap you for life. When it comes to German dual players I fear more cos Germany would cap you even if it's for 2mins but those stupid friendlies are what they use to wet ur appetite a lot. TheSuperNerd: |

Patience is the key. Our NFF is very impatient with a local coach but somewhat patient with a foreigner. Except you're a hot headed local coach like Keshi, you'd be shown the door asap. Oliseh is a very good coach. I love his philosophy of football. I could not see Mikel in Oliseh's team in the long run due to the fast way he vision ed our team to play. It takes time to build the type of team he wanted in an international setting. That's something you can achieve with a club due to the daily training. Oliseh loves this high-pressure football. He shot himself in th foot by calling up clowns during his reign. Izunna, Onobi, Haruna, etc. Only Igboun was a good addition. Really liked that guy's all action style of footy. tbaba1234: |

Dedebanky85:Oliseh is benefiting from not having to worry about his wages and just doing his job... He made the mistake of trying to bring his brother's players (Izunna & co) into the national team and was a poor man manager. He did not deal with the Enyeama issue well. The players were not settled around him. The experience of coaching in Europe will make him a better manager if he ever decides to come back. |

Sorry about the Nigerian colors mix-up.... that is Manuel Akanji.... not Jordan Torunarigha.... Please pardon my error. And in what you said.... I totally agree with you ooo.... Germany don't joke with bright young talents. Even the Gnabry that should have played for an African team (I think Ivory Coast right?) was still "rewarded" kinda with a spot in the Olympic team at Rio 2016.... he got silver. Like you said.. they keep whetting the appetite of these youngsters.... but will not give most of them the real deal... which is Euro or World cup appearance. But they better pass England shaa.... England will rather cap you to block you from going to others (e.g. Agbonlahor). Well shaa.... after all is said and done... I sure hope we can land Jordan T. and Felix Uduokhai too. Rohr has deep strong contacts there... he should be able, hopefully, to pull some strings.... Dedebanky85: |

Sylvester Igboun...... truth be told ..... was an absolute mess in that no.10 role biko..... absolutely average (if not less than average) player.... haba!!! All action gini? abeg.... no be all action we go chop... He could hardly unlock defences with visionary/killer passes like Swaziland's and that is the player Oliseh was parading as our starting no.10.... chaiiiii... we really suffered during his reign.... ![]() Sir Tbaba1234 is right.... his new "classes" of experience in man management and more at this dutch club will make him a far better coach/manager if he ever decides to come back.... I am even glad I haven't heard reports of his temperament with the Fortuna players. All just seems to be going well.... happy for him. Dedebanky85: |

TheGoodJoe:See oga... The truth is Guardiola simply doesn't like iheanacho. For crying out loud, the boy refused to show up at the Olympics just to have a pre- season with this super coach, and 10 months on you want me to believe he still hasn't learnt what Guardiola wants him to learn? Oh please! Even in university education, you don't spend up to 10 months on one level!. Gabriel Jesus came from Brazil and walked straight into the first eleven, the very week he arrived, no "drills" nothing. Is Nacho that dumb, that in 10 months of drills he hasn't learnt enough to earn a regular place even on the bench? Make the young man move on abeg, before his talents wastes away |

Leicester star dismisses Man Utd link Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has rebuffed transfer speculation linking him with a move away from the King Power Stadium. A report from Nigeria had cited a man claiming to be the midfielder’s agent and had suggested that his client would be interested in a move to Manchester United. Reports in England speculated that the midfielder was also coveted by Arsenal and that the Foxes were facing a battle to keep a hold of their man. However, the 20-year-old has taken to Twitter to play down those claims and highlighted his commitment to the reigning Premier League champions. “Please be informed this information is not true, I’m 200% with Leicester and I don’t know this person called Hakeem Bello,” Ndidi posted. Ndidi joined Leicester in January for £15million, plus £3million in potential add-ons. The midfielder has enjoyed a great start to life at the Foxes, guiding them away from the relegation zone and into the Champions League quarter-final. The 20-year-old has even received praise from his manager Craig Shakespeare, who also commended the club’s recruitment department for signing the player. “We did a lot of homework on him and I think we were one of the first clubs, if not the first, to show an interest in him,” Shakespeare said. “I think he, and his family and agent, remembered that so we were in the driving seat. When other clubs came in for him he remembered the way we went about it first. He had other options. “From what you’re seeing so far, we’ve got a good player on our hands.” http://www.football365.com/news/leicester-star-dismisses-man-utd-link |

Hanibal:You do not know if Guardiola does not like Iheanacho or not. When analysing, it is important to weigh all options. I for one stated on this thread that I will play Firmino ahead of Nacho if I was a coach because of his fluidity within and outside the eighteen yard box. This fluidity is what we see in players like Suarez and Lewandowski. In recent games, Aguero is improving tremendously in this. He drops deep regularly to build up plays and helps make more numbers in the attack midfield area. When Nacho came on in one of the games, I noticed he has not yet adapted to dropping deep and playing fluid as this guys. Aguero used to do this poorly. Iheanacho was even better at it but now, Aguero is pure class. It takes years to adapt to systems like this. Some do it faster, others take time. There is no guarantee what holds in the future for Iheanacho but I insist that the knowledge he is gaining now will mould him into a much craved player by other coaches. Mascherano said it took him years to understand Guardiola's system. We are talking at that time, one of the best midfielders in the World. Talk less of a young promising star. Gabriel Jesus keeps the Firmino I rate so highly on the bench in Brazil. I believe it is down to his fluidity. This is the quality I think attracted Pep to him and why he walked into the City starting eleven. Humility and willingness to become better is a big part of development. The game time will come. |

krattoss: On a normal day underdogs do not thrash big teams. Get that. When underdogs thrash big teams, it is called an upset. Not normal. If you think Mourinho will take over Barcelona and tell them to play an advanced tip tap playing style and have the defenders crossing the half way line regularly, then you still have a lot to learn about the game. It takes a lot of discipline, high intensity training and belief in an open attacking system to coach a team like Barcelona the way they do. If you also believe Barcelona players can coach themselves, then you think football is choosing. For instance, everyone wants to play. Who will sit on the bench and who will attack. A player like Mascherano might want the defensive midfielder sitting deep and Iniesta might want him to play high with the midfield. Barcelona went two seasons without a trophy before Guardiola took over. He turned the team into one of the best playing sides in the history of club football. Not every coach can make such transformation. |

BascoVanVeli:Coaches set up their teams in different ways. You can not expect Guardiola and Zidane to operate with the same template. Guardiola is known for making positional changes like converting Mascherano into a defender and playing Alaba in central defence. Playing a winger up front is also not illogical. Iheanacho was in the bench at Manchester City when Pellegrini opted to give James Milner a run as a top striker. If Zidane does not do it, it does not mean other coaches will not. It does not make Guardiola wrong to make such move or show hatred to Iheanacho. Guardiola insists he tries to treat all players fairly during training and he does this in line of his vision of how they will play few years ahead. This education is important and we hope Iheanacho soaks them in, including the discipline and lifestyle part. |

maidaboi:That is you. What you miss is the dedication and discipline Cristiano Ronaldo has. CR7 is one of my models of footballing success. He has a laser focus to keep himself at the top of his game. He is one of the most dedicated footballers and leaves a healthy lifestyle mostly during the season. Most clubs or coaches do not have this model. A good example is, Iwobi staying up at night, browsing and chatting. At City, he will not play the next match if he was a starter. This is not just about Guardiola's training but a model of Barcelona which I see as an ingredient for success in young players. We have three Barca execs running City. One running the academy and Barca academy style coaches in the club. A year or two under this system will make Nacho flourish in the future. You can not guarantee that Nacho will get such education at another club. When it comes to training methods, Guardiola is a coach that has a history of players improving with wide margins. Stones and Delph are recent examples. He also improved quality players like Messi, Lewandowski and Alaba. We can not just want Nacho out of such environment because we want to see his name on headlines. |

maidaboi:I have said it repeatedly. A year or two and then go. The reason why I said go is because at the end he might not fit in exactly. Although I believe with perseverance and Hardwork, he can achieve it. Even play it better than those with the natural abilities. If he does not make it, he will still become a far better player than he would have in most environment that lack the education we have at City. |
