the governor of lagos state is one heartless individual, i have known him to be the commander in chief of demolision of houses and shops. he started his madness when he began demolishing shops in i think lekki or ikoyi where nulijuice outlet and other shops were located. his fraudulent and lying scumbag taskforce will always claim they gave the occupants 14 days notice but na lie, they painted only x in red on the buildings and came one day to destroy without prior notice. am sure the governor and his cronies will come to tv tomorrow and say the regular "we gave them 3 months notice". how will you demolish houses with people sleeping in them, no alarm, no sensitization nothing. fvcking bastards |

I'm in support of this not because I hate the people but I think they have the right to better lives even if they don't know it. Most people here think a slum is a place to live, it's not. It's dehumanizing, and no apologies the people living there are just a step above animals . Government, aid organizations and well meaning Nigerians should come to the aid of these people and give them a better life. Instead of condemning the government for an act well overdue we should be making active contribututions towards resetteling these people |

Many of us comment on topics based on sentiments and not the fact. Government all over the world creates policies for the ease of governance. Those land must have been gazetted by the state long before now as government land reserved for a future development. |

homeboy232:most people don't know the effects of having slums in the community, from soweto slums, to those in Rio the story is always the same, crime drugs, rape and diseases. We should all be working towards eradicating slums not permitting it |

jollymizzle:We are saying the same thing. No one is supporting leaving the slums as they are, but people should be treated right. They are human beings like you and I. |
| Re: Nigerians React To The Demolition Of Otodo Gbame In Lagos by OBAGADAFFI: 6:30pm On Apr 09, 2017 |
homeboy232:I will ask you again, what tribe/s do they belong to? What part of Niger Delta are they coming from? That you comment is inhumane, and evil. How can you call fellow humans animals. Are Americans and British living in slums better than these. Because they also have poor families with lot of kids bin the countries |

Being Oppressed Means The Absence Of Choices......alternative accommodation should have been provided .......am sure if they had somewhere else to go ...,.they would have left.........they have lived there for so many years ......do you expect them to just move like that...... To even rent a room .. is not easy in Lagos o... talk less of renting it to a family of 3 to 4 people....assuming that is what they can afford. In the western world ... refugees and asylum seekers are given shelter , food before they decide on their cases......but in Africa we treat our own poor people like foreigners in their own country ......when foreigners treat us bad outside we start shouting racism, xenophobia, discrimination .....it makes international headlines... human rights sef will get involved....... Am sure the whole world is watching...........including the investors they are trying to attract. |

jollymizzle:We should be looking more at what creates the slums and find alternatives. Then maybe we will be able to eradicate the slums humanely, sustainably, and gradually. Humans shouldn't at given time live like pigs, but dire factors contributes to situations where supposed humans live like animals. A situation where they lose their moral compass. |
| Re: Nigerians React To The Demolition Of Otodo Gbame In Lagos by jollymizzle(m): 6:32pm On Apr 09, 2017 |
OBAGADAFFI:yes but you and I know there are no laws in the slums. No one should be made to or willingly choose to live in a slum. These people must have villages somewhere let them return. What do you think will happen to kids who grow up in that hellhole |
| Re: Nigerians React To The Demolition Of Otodo Gbame In Lagos by jollymizzle(m): 6:35pm On Apr 09, 2017 |
redsun:life creates slums. Soweto in Africa, Harlem even in the USA. The notorious favela in Brazil. While got might have let these people down at some point. Slums are not acceptable. That's why most in it are oblivious to the effects while living it. It's dehumanizing people |

AngelicBeing:You don't need to worry about the guy; life has a way of giving everybody his own dose. He may not always have it rosy, as he may have his own crying days, even if it's just to teach him how not to ridicule the poor and downtrodden. As for the government, before you tell people to vacate a place, you MUST provide an alternative place or compensate them. Failure to do this and it becomes wickedness and oppression. El Rufai is a terrible example to follow. |

Kamxin:We are saying the same thing. Life creates these slums. People must however not loose their humanity by accepting slum life. They need rehabilitation though |

jollymizzle:LMAO So you don't know that Lagos is village to some people. From Maroko to Epe was inhabited by locals for years until the government and money bags started buying up Lands and forcefully evicting landowners. Go read about Dangote vs indigenous people fight at Ibeju lekki, to understand what is going on |

redsun:mass migrations to the city, everyone wants to live in lagos in this case, not only in logos . there are slums in almost all major cities in Nigeria. But these slum communities are a scourge and they indirectly affect us all. Whether we are the oppressors or the oppressed if I can get what you inferred , in fact it's more likely to affect the fellow oppressed than affect the "oppressors" |
