If true, it is really sad. Do not be surprised if some Nigerian Officials actually own some of those buildings in Dubai.

The Problem is (Some) Nigerian Officials must Start believing in Themselves.

For Starters, I am sure Innoson Group of Companies can start A Military Helicopter Plant.

The problem started when (USA Oil Companies) tricked Nigeria to form states to steal Niger Delta Oil under the banner of NNPC.

Corruption is a crime and whoever is found guilty should be prosecuted, be it a northerner or a southerner.

Thank you sir! God Nigerians, lets wake up..we need to forget about what the oil blocks really cost. Stealing and selling of government property, resources and funds should be of one of the biggest crimes and whoever is founds to be a culprit should be prosecuted heavily!!

Let me putt it like this if you are guilty of accepting funds upwards of millions of dollars from the illicit sales of government property you should be in jail for at least 50 years Period!....and all efforts should be made to recovers should funds.

I couldn't agree with you more. They know we wont do anything about it, and they are correct because we just wont.

We are going to have to band together and present ourselves as a united front and demand what we want whatever it is it may be. We can start will portable water through Nigeria- no exceptions! Stable electricity through out Nigeria-no exceptions! I don't see why this should be a big deal or problem we have only gone at least 15-20 years without these basic amenities as a common Nigerian. Its time we the people of Nigeria get what we want, if the common 'retarded' senator seats in the house of assembly making millions monthly to only sleep through sessions then I DO NOT SEE ANY REASON WHY WE CANT GET stable water and electricity RIGHT NOW. If they are unwilling to cut their own pay as they seem unequivocally one of the more dysfunctional, incompetent and ill equipped lawmakers in modern history, then I don't want to hear anything about why we cant get those 2 basic things as of YESTERDAY actually as of last year.

Wake up Nigeria! Wake up!!

Wake up Nigeria! Wake up!!

Everything you have mentioned is true! and I agree, but as much as you recognise the problem in nigeria agree that we need you do something fast however some nigerians infact most nigerians don't have the same mindset.

there are different categories of nigerians, we have the population who believes that nigerian will gets better
we have the population who are in complete denial
we have the population who thinks by praying, fasting or repeating things like "God help us in this country" that one day God would intervene.
we have the ones who say things like " I no want trouble o!", we have the population who thinks as long as the bad economy doesn't affect them no problem! they don't care about others and we have the ones (partisans) who are in support of the crooked politicians as long as theye are given cash gifts or bag of cheap rice grin . and ETC

so you see? the problem is not the politicians the people are the problem and the crooked politicians knows this
i mean how can a whole country not have common basic Amenities like electricity and running tap water? it's a shame!
so were do we start to liberate the masses?

There's a whole lot of misnformation been dished out concerning this Malabu deal. I honestly see it as this govt giving us something to talk about today, tovdistract us.

There's no way a field is worth $500bn.
an (oil prospecting license) OPL is not selling the field
They way OPL's are priced is very technical I can't go into it now, know that the amount paid for this OPL in question is very reasonable.
Government did not sell the field! they sold an OPL, this allows the buyers go and prospect for oil, if it's found that oil can be produced commercially and its economically viable, the company then come back for an OML (oil mining licences) which allows them to drill and produce from the field. Now during the aqusiction of an OML govt through NNPC would own a stake in the field ranges from 30%-55%. so the issue of government selling the field is false!

This Malabu field was awarded to Malabu oil owned by Then minister of oil (Dan Etete) by Abacha. The field has huge reserves 700mmboe I think, (certainly not worth $500bn, common don't be naive), SHELL and ENI wanted it. The little I've gather so far, is GEJ was able to broker an agreement between Malabu oil and SHELL and ENI. That the money paid was for the brokerage and he never got any of it. this sounds Dodgy to be honest, but if there was evidence they would've taken him to court and not this media farce we are seeing.

They are distracting you all and you're falling for it!

Are we saying its untrue because its a distraction? or are we saying its true and is a distraction? Either way this fraud happened and it happens to be yet another scam, fraud whatever we want to call it. The common theme or thing here at least to me is that the common Nigerian seems to be the sole victim time and time again. By the way thanks for dropping some knowledge seems you are bit 'in the know'...heres my point simply putt: Crime committed and theres no way any of this would have been to happen without some high ranking persons in the government. If i brokered a deal, trust me bro i am getting a share, some kind of share I am not quick to absolve GEJ and i am not saying you are.

The masses have to liberate themselves we have to wake up and smell the coffee if we don't know one is going to do it on our behalf. I bet if you sample a number of individuals from each of the categories you mentioned above you will find out that they are all not enjoying their mother country like some of our western counterparts are. The so called ones that only care about themselves regardless of the economic climate will complain about a handful of things from security or the lack their of, bad roads, bad governance and etc. So to me regardless of where we fall in each of the categories we will all like the country or should want the country to improve on it its many fronts of deficiencies. It affects us all whether we like it or whether we even care to admit or not.

The ultimate question is how long are we going to allow our fear to suppress us? what does it have to take for the common Nigerian to get up and say "enough is enough, we want real change". Forget real change that's too broad of a statement, we want pipe borne water, we want good roads, we want better welfare and then hold them accountable. They work for us and not the other way round, well in Nigeria it apparently and sadly is exactly the other way round.

Whoever posted this topic is ignorant. You don't sell oil field assets, you earn a lease contract with the federal government to explore, develop or produce it..and the government takes royalty from it through the NNPC. What happened here is shell explored and started development on the field, but didnt want to risk losinf the field if there is an open bid like it should be done normally, by the way shell had invested close to $500m in developing the field...the reserves were that big. So shell and Eni tried to bribe the petroleum minister then and some oda persons with the said $1.3 bn so as to ensure that the contract to develop thr field is awarded to them...the issue that got in the way was that due to don etete's greed coupled with stupidity, in an attempt to hide its tracks, the monies generated from that field could not be really properly accounted for to the govt through the NNPC so as not to expose irregularities in awarding the contract.. However the federal govt still got its royalties...but not through official accounts.
If due process had been followed, the developed field will have gone on for an open bid and $0 will have been paid but shell will have to risk losing such a massive potential ( by the way,it is uncommon these days of more enlightenment for one company to own the rights to develop such a large field, there will usually be other companies too in a JV.) So we should be mindful of the terms we use and not raise cheap sentiments. Its a bribery scandal of great magnitude...but no oil field was sold for that cheap sum...all these could have been prevented if Nigerian youths rise up and develop themselves rather than kissing politicians asses, dying for them in the hope of a small pittance but coming to shout foul play if things don't go thier way.
