BTW, Fashola is a 100 square inch peg trying desperately hard to fit into a 20 square inch hole.

Doesn't work.

I don't care what you Nigerians say, talking about how you don't need technocrats as ministers. This isn't America, I hope you guys understand that. This is Nigeria, a developing country.

In America, technocrats have slaved over the years, such that, management of sectors can be achieved with little technical background knowledge.

There, systems work.

You can't extrapolate a working system to encompass that of a developing system, as the latter proceeds the former.

What we need now are technocrats everywhere. I would even suggest technocrats with MBAs as ministers, rather than what we currently have.

We need to get our sectors working first. We need Power at 20-30GW in the next 5 years. After that, you can higher a butcher as the power minister for all I care.

Can't we just do thinfs right for once in this country?

We are struggling with an abysmal 3GW of power and you hire a lawyer to remedy that? Sigh!

Meanwhile, humans like us, with one head, mostly 2 arms and 2 feet are out there in other countries doing wonders, while we play politics with our sectors, awarding them as spoils of electoral victory, akin to war.

Google already had self driving cars, Tesla has electric vehicles you simply charge up like your phone.

What are we doinghuh
With all due respect to Fashola, pictures like this will not solve the power issue in Nigeria.

He is a Lawyer and not an engineer he won't have the luxury to make very quick decision on several issues facing the sector.he will always have to consult an aide on the technical sector problems

He will not be able to design a workflow that will enable us have 24 7 electricity in Nigeria on the fly.....

Just saying

Hmm, power failure at its peak, this guy is not an engineer. But why given a lawyer three engineering/environmental portfolio? Such is not far fetched in Nigeria.

what this country needs is the right ppl in the right fields as ministers ... give this man 100 yer's he can only but do nothing to fix power supply in this country. ..

In serious nations they use SCADA to monitor power system failure more.
Do you really think they don't have that in Nigeria?... After a potential problem is discovered (via SCADA), you dont think they need to physically go out to inspect the equipment/facilities?
Re: Fashola Inspects Helicopters Used In Tracing Fault At 330KV Ikeja Transmission by wink2015(m): 12:53pm On Apr 14, 2017
I want to say here that Fashola ministry is too big for him to handle all the responsibility especially in a big country like Nigeria with all the drawback.

Fashola today is covering Works, Housing, and Power at the moment.

Buhari should take Power ministry and give to other competent Nigeria.

It is Buhari slowness in taking action he ended up spending 8 months to appoint ANGELIC MINISTER FROM THE LAND OF CANAAN!

Assuming you are right about technocrats
I would argue that we do not have technocrats in this sector of proven pedigree. Not one.Having a degree in Engineering from Unilag is not what makes a person an Engineer. We still end up employing white men to build our roads and so on. Engineering knowledge resides in companies like ABB Costain and so on not in UNN OR UNILAG.After over 40 years Julies Berger has not trained Nigerian's to lead projects.
Whether we use any of the so called failed Engineer from NEPA or Fashola or Magu it makey no difference. In fact the WORST CASE SCENARIO is using a so called technocrat because we will think it is someone with expertise. Let us start by agreeing we have no expertise and the job of a minister is purely political then we seek expertise from anywhere in the world we can buy it from?
We have no technocrat in this sector
My question is
GIVE US A NAME OF WHOUR YOU WOULD HAVE INSTEAD AND WHY

What we have in Naija is hardly a SCADA. Higher precision SCADAs pinpoint location of damage in seconds and to the last kilometre.

ANd when you pinpoint the location from the CCR, what do you do next?

When you pinpoint the location of fault, the need to start tracing the point of fault is eliminated.

Is eliminated right?.... You notice a loss in signal from the control room, and you genuinely think it's needless to go out in the field to physically inspect, trace or investigate the true nature of the damage?... An advanced SCADA system will supposedly do all that for you while you sit permanently in the office?.... Wonderful!
Re: Fashola Inspects Helicopters Used In Tracing Fault At 330KV Ikeja Transmission by aribisala0(m):
Personally I reject the technocrat idea 100% simply because the problem is NOT a technical one. Technically what needs to be done is known and can be done in a country of 100% illiterates if they have money to pay for it.
We see that all o'er the Middle East in oil rich countries
The problem is one of human/behaviour/ management and political administration
It speaks to Nigerian psychology and social organisation. The same reason why our football team got stranded in Atlanta and why in this day .and age people's luggage are looted at our airports without consequences. Why are there so many touts in our airports, why were people crowded into a stadium to Sit an employment exam and so many died without consequences? These are not technical problems requiring technical solutions
Many of us run generators in our homes very well without being technocrats we just buy in the expertise. It is not brain surgery

Drones will completely replace human inspection right?... You started by claiming there wasn't any need for inspection cos the source of the fault should have been detailed via SCADA in a developed world. Now you claim drones should be used for the inspection?... How many drones do you really think are capable of flying the length of a transmission cable?... now we arent talking of just a spot inspection, but a length spanning hundreds of kilometres?.... Do you really think using those kind of drones are cheaper or more efficient in inspection than an actual fly-over in a chopper?

Bro, without going into much arguments, SCADA helps you monitor and control, it does not replace 'inspection.' Also, the use of drones for inspection may sound or seem fancy, but they aren't necessarily cheaper or as effective as sending a pair of real human eyes out there. And finally, what we have on this thread (i.e. inspection using choppers etc) is still very much the current inspection mode obtainable even in the most developed parts of the world.

Why inspect 'hundreds of kilometre' when scada can reveal the location. Do you know the strength, speed and precision of scadas?
