Professor is taking this matter softly. He should have sued both the Inspector General and the Commissioner of police for impunity and assault on him...policing this country is not in anyway encouraging at all. Those guys should be killed...stupid Police force? I pray they do this to any of the Military personnel..he for kill all of una for station. Professor is taking this so low...prof. Should look for competent attorney like Age Babalola and sue Nigeria Police Force |

Nigerian police = illiterate, uneducated, and untrained officers. Majority of them have no clue what is it written in Nigerian police act, let alone Nigeria's constitution about ethics and professionalism. They think putting on police uniform is to intimidate Set of zombies. |

[quote author=todaynewsreview post=55563538]Despite the campaign of the Inspector General of Police on decent policing in Nigeria, a rogue police squad in Edo State is thwarting the efforts. Martins Ifijeh chronicles how the squad serially brutalised a Professor of Law in Ambrose Alli University with cutlasses, hammers and teargas for daring to ask questions When the Dean, Department of Law, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Professor Sunday Edeko woke up in the morning of March 13, he did not envisage h When it happened to me, they say I should forget about it. This people beat me with hammer and then told me they were "special squad". I'm happy it has happened to prof. of law. Prof, sorry o! Take heart and forget about it. Now I wish it should happen to chief judge of the federation. Anyway, as a novelist, I'm contemplating on what I can create from police brutality in this Country. |

Since hunters have learnt to shoot without missing birds have also learnt to fly without perching The common has learnt to avoid police and settle issues without going to police It is their way to brutalize since the common man is avoiding them the police they have to settle for the upper class to brutalize them Guess there is no solution to police brutality |

A similar incidence happened to me in Portharcourt on night of Wednesday 12th April 2017 by men of the Special Anti-robbery squads (SARS) Rukpokwu Portharcourt. I am a medical doctor and was driving home back from work when I stopped in front of Big Treat shopping mall Rukpokwu to pick a lady who happens to live in same neighbourhood as mine and whose sister was a patient in my hospital ,when suddenly 5 men of the Special Anti robbery Squad ( SARS) swooped on us.They took both of us to SARS office Rukpokwu where they beat ,slapped both of us despite my identifying myself as a doctor from duty. I asked what my offence was and that I am aware there is no curfew in Rivers State. That only triggered more slaps on me till I went deaf on my left ear and I was bleeding from blows on my lips. They beat and kicked the lady till her right wrist dislocated . All these was at SARS office Rukpokwu. One of them who was very hefty fired shots into the air threatening to" waste us both". Then one of the men wrote some statement on a piece of paper and asked me to sign . when I refused to sign pending when I speak with my lawyer,I got more beating of my life and threats that they will shoot me and no one will do them anything. I was forced to sign the paper. They then requested I paid #200,000 or they put us in the cell. I told them I had no such money. All these while, they never allowed me to fully express myself but would slap me when I want to speak. When I was allowed to talk,I told them of how I would take up the case after my release. They went outside and after discussing one of them asked me to wear my clothes which they had ordered me to remove, to pack my things and to leave with the lady. He said I should forget what happened and that they were only doing their job. We left and we are bothstill receiving treatment in the hospital. I just wondered if people whose duty is to protect the citizens would maltreat me like this, what then happens to the voiceless in the society. The lady is yet to recover from the shock of the incidence. One of the men called her the following day threatening to trace and kill her if we report the incidence. She has been calling and pleading with me to just let go what happened. This shows you how far men of the Nigerian police force can go to molest innocent citizens. I believe everything the professor of law said because it just happened to me. You will never understand how mean these men are until you encounter them. In my experience as a doctor only men who abuse hard drugs like marijuana or cocaine behave like that and I can confidently tell you that those police officers I encountered were high on hard drugs. |

YET SOME PEOPLE WONDER WHY SOME NIGERIANS IN THE DIASPORA - ESPECIALLY THOSE IN NORTH AMERICA AND EUROPE - HAVE CHOSEN TO STAY AWAY FOR GOOD. IN MY NECK OF THE WOOD EVEN A TEACHER CANNOT RAISE HIS VOICE LET ALONE HIS HANDS AGAINST SCHOOL CHILDREN. NIGERIA IS DOOMED. |
