The thing is that not all Corp members will enjoy their service year.... It all depends on ur Place of primary assignment, you can't tell me that a Corp member that was posted to a deserted community, where they don't have light, no good water, no network, no market e.t.c, will surely enjoy d place, all he will do is just to go to the school he is posted to, go back home, eat and sleep for the whole year....in some riverine communities, things Re costly there, because d place is an island, most goods are being brought into d community via boats.. So d 19800 is not always enough most times.... Or y do u think most people ghost dere service year, had it been they are enjoying it, dey won't have... The security issue is also among, North bokoharam, South South, cultism and militancy, East and west cultism.... Am currently serving in rivers state, I will tell you the fact, am not enjoying any bit of it....

I loved the experience. Fg will not for whatever reasons scrap that scheme. Am sure fg have a million reasons to keep it going. For those of u clamouring for it to be scrapped you should ask ex copas their opinion.
And u think those clamouring for it to be scrapped are not ex corp members?

the chance of pple benefiting from NYSC is small. (2%) as it stands now NYSC should be scraped since our university cannot produce competitive graduate. d one year period of NYSC should be use constructively for graduates to learn trade, handwork, etc. and become useful to the nation.

no doubt that some practises of NYSC is full of corruption. it makes some corp member lazy, relented and even more corrupt.

you re talking becos u enjoy ur NYSC. take note not everyone. i personally do not enjoy it not a bit. i was previllege to see new cultures of other tribe. d rest re value-less

You learnt Hausa during your service year then returned back to your village to start asking who Hausa help? SMH.
Why didn't you remain in the north and proceed for job search? Hausa language knowledge is currently a big selling point for today's graduate.

Excuse me Mister Man, did I ever tell you I'm interested in any damn job search?

By the way, how do you know I'm not still in the North? undecided

Okay, if Hausa language is a selling point, what will you then say about French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic and chinese which are the official United Nations languages I think I'm better off pursuing?

Those ones go be boiling point na, abi? tongue

After the Nigeria Civil war, the NYSC scheme was created to reconcile, reconstruct and to rebuild the country.

After the Nigeria Civil war, the NYSC scheme was created to reconcile, reconstruct and to rebuild the country. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was established on the 22nd May, 1973. NYSC was established with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity.

Recently, there have been rumours that the NYSC scheme has been scrap by the federal government. Even though it was a rumour, many people would love to see it happen. Today, we will be telling you five funny reasons why NYSC should not be scrap. DO Not Forget to Join corpersforum.com

1. Cultures/ Tradition
Do you know most youths have not travelled out of their state of origin or resident? Scrapping NYSC will prevent most youth to experience or learn other cultures. I recently finished my NYSC program of which I served in Anambra state. I can vehemently tell you that knowing the culture and tradition of the Anambrans changed my orientation towards the Igbo people and increased my love for business. There is always something you will learn from other cultures and traditions.

they should join army or civil service

2. Alawee
#19,800? That's too small! Only feeding will consume more than half of it! I won't lie to you, I also complained about the money. But do you really think if NYSC is no more, you can get 19800 every month after finishing school considering the Nigeria economy? This small alawee has saved many youths from begging money from parents, uncle, friends after school. I can tell you that many youths don't even get up to that alawee in a month after finishing their NYSC. Do you know the money most people saved from their Alawee is what they use to survive after NYSC before their dream job? It might be funny to you, but it is true.
they should look for real work instead of wasting their life

3. Life Partner
I don't need to tell you that many people met their lost rip during the one year NYSC program. I can still remember the song we sang at orientation camp ''When corper marry corper them go born ... wink''. So many married people met their partner at the orientation camp, some at their PPA and some even met theirs in the host community. A lot of persons might not see their missing rip if NYSC is scrap- funny but true.
when fia mate don find wife and husband since secondary school

4. Job Opportunities
We have talked about Cultures, Alawee, and Life partner, let's Talk about Job opportunities. During NYSC program- Most graduates are fortunate to work in an organization where they are being retained after the one year program. Apart from your PPA, there can also be several job openings in the community or state where you served. Scrapping NYSC will deprive so many of job.

without NYSC the jobs would still be available instead of using them as free labour

5. Experience
NYSC program serves as a good platform to gain experience. 70% of corps are being posted to schools which is also a good place to gain experience. I don't need to tell to include it as experience in your CV.

which mumu experience do you get in NYSC that you can't get by volunteering

It shouldn't be scrapped for just one reason: it was born from prophesy given by Pa SG Elton, a british missionary. It is the will of God for Nigeria.

Except of course the time for it in God's calendar has elapsed.

Culture
Pray you dont encounter some tribes with strange culture in Nigeria
Allawee
Like seriously?#19800 monthly, around 560 daily nd u think its money making oppurtunity?my dear that money is nothing, please this kind of mindset keeping dragging us backword OMG nd u'r suppose to be a nigerian youth
Life partner
Ratio of people who get married through nysc scheme nd people who dont is like 10:90
Job opportunities
How many ex-corpers do they retain after service?talk true na
Experience
Just one of the windows for experience,IT is there, internship is there, teaching practice is there, holiday jobs are there.besides if they post u to the north especially north east, the only experience u gain is teaching.HOW DID YOU COME OUT WITH ALL THESE?

Today nysc is nothing but mostly nonsense thing.
Re: 5 Reasons Why NYSC Should Not Be Scrapped by blueranny: 8:50am On Apr 15, 2017
why it should be scrapped.
1)Corpers r been used to occupied major Lucrative Job position(opportunities) and they are just been given chicken change by the institutions eg #20k,30k.
I know of a firm that before they realized Corpers can be used for there cheap market,d smallest salary there is #80k.But now all there workers retrenched. Corpers everywhere in the firm with #10k,#20k salary.
But the Corpers are happy, the same people that will complain about unemployment after the NYSC.
If NYSC is scrapped there will be Thousands of Job vacancy across the nation within a minutes.
2)The Unpredictable nature of Nigeria states right now.Dividing the nation into 3main zone,in term of terror/agitation, then the risk level will be:
Northern Part:High Risk Zone.
Southern/Eastern: Moderate Risk Zone.
Western Part. Low risk zone.
One chance in serving in his Zone is negligible. So u people from Low risk Zone been sent to High Zone nn Vvisa.
what an irony, what a mess?
I know of a female Christain Corper about 3years ago serving in one of the northern states that was Axed to death through the window when asleep.
If NYSC must continue then Government should:1)Make it optional.
2)Allow people to 100% choose there location of choice.
3)Increase the allowance to something that befits a Graduate (70k minimum is not bad).
4)Then also regulate the PPA,so that corper will not be the enemy of permanent employment for themselves.

To begin let me wish you HAPPY EASTER if you are a Christian! Remember to be focused for your year 2017 money-making goals.. If you ate chicken provided by a benefactor this time around, be sure by the next celebration you will be the proud provider with earnings from your training investment today! Wishing you greater depth than your teacher!

I was at my favourite wheel balancing & alignment shop recently. 2 hrs of my time there, 10 cars, 3k each(NGN 30k). And it was still 12 PM - small business you say?. You do the sum for what is being averaged per month!.

My point? Most people, even graduates ignore daily income services sector. All they see is the dirt, presumed indignity on those who do them. An empty pocket from no job or an underpaid job is far more indignifying. If u are educated, start small but grow it, package it well and employ others, while you supervise. The same applies to smartphones and Tablets Repairs business, depending on your skills and acumen.
