Happy Sunday my people. Straight to my question, I want to know how relevant is a certificate in National Open University of Nigeria in our society? I am about to enroll for a programme but want to be sure before I do. Can her(NOUN) certificate be compared to other higher institution's? How is it rated?

What do you mean by private universities are preferred? My guy they are not just preferred they are stones preferred to federal university graduate

ABU has an online distance learning program. You an look it up. I'm currently running mine there and though it's still early stages, looks good thus far. All the best.

OP, let me give you a very good advice,

Never never go to NOUN if you are a young, intelligent and healthy person. You will always be treated as inferior for the rest of your life with a certificate from NOUN wherever you present your certificate because NOUN is not considered a true university in real life.
NOUN certificates are worthless when you present them to large corporations and multinational companies.

NOUN is usually for old and tired parents who do not have the energy and vigour that is required in regular universities.
NOUN does not even offer good courses that you can study and the courses they offer are mostly not accredited by the NUC.

i would have loved to do pgd in mathematics. Its sad that noun does not offer it

A part-time programme is a possible option.

I think the original idea of setting up NOUN is for those that are already working, because they can't cope with Full time program.

My take, the certificate is 100% valid and acceptable. Know body will care about the school u attend as long as u are experienced and know ur job.

NOUN/part time programs was created for those already working, but the admission problems in Nigeria made secondary school leavers to seek them.
Their downside is that u can't serve and u know most companies ask for NYSC certificate.

This an eye opener

NOUN is relevant in Nigeria even Globally Recognised.Most of the Big company,senators and big wing are already a Student of NOUN.Anything Contrary to this is Laughable.

Having NOUN certificate is not for u to get job but just to have certificate of participation in any programme.

NOUN certificate i well acceptable! If you are not clear enough visit NUC website and make an investigate! The programme was setup for someone like you (accessible, affordable and equality of Education)

Many PHD, MSC, BSC holder from all this federal university are still roaming the street at age 42 while destiny has taken HND holder to their dream land..

Abeg obtain the form or better still look for an institution that runs weekend part time program .

It is not only recognized but acceptable everywhere. It depends on how your luck shines. Nigerian factor plays significant role in determining where and how you use your certificate. Don't be discouraged. Go for it. NOUN is also a key that can unlock your success.

NOUN is reckless in extorting their students... Charges upon charges.

They can just come up with additional courses anytime for you to offer, for which you will have to pay for.

Or refuse to add some certain marks you scored, just to make you stay longer than necessary. They are freaking expensive too. They keep collecting money and extorting students
