A government that does not care if Fulani herdsmen kill us has the guts to charge a woman for attempted suicide! Are they angry she cheated herdsmen off her life? This is a travesty of justice! They have not charged the killers of pastor Eunice Elisha who was killed in Kubwa, 15 minutes from Aso Rock Villa. They have not charged the killers of pastor Eunice Elisha who was beheaded in Kano in broad daylight. They have not charged the killers of Southern Kaduna minorities. But it is Mrs. Titilayo Momoh who is overburdened by a debt she can't pay that they can try for attempted suicide. What a hopeless government!

why will they help the woman? she was owing debts, don't be surprise she has been throwing owambe up and down with people money, forgetting he is indebted to someone.
Every rich businessman borrowed at some point what makes you great is the ability to pay back as at when due, for you to payback you must cut on your expenses, limit the way you hangout with friends, be ready to monitor your business and stop forming boss.

committing suicide or even helping someone commit suicide is illegal in some countries, not only Nigeria. Some countries have legalized it after years of making it illegal. So many things are not unique to Nigeria only as we always want to believe.

Assuming, she had succeeded to kill herself, would she be charged? Did she attempt suicide because she was very happy? Or trying to hurt someone?

I have a personal friend who attempted suicide in 2011. She was retained in the psychiatric unit of a teaching hospital till all evaluation and psychological treatment done. She was placed on surveillance for next 6 months with weekly counseling before she was allowed to go back to work.

The scenario I narrated and the one we have at hand, which helps the person more?

I read somewhere about the deceased properties being seized, family making payments, ostracizing some members of the family, etc for successful suicides, all these were outside Nigeria cases.

Given that your friend was treated differently and I think such treatment would give better results, then its up to us (and not our politicians like everyone says) to change it. Till then, it's illegal.

It has been in the Nigerian constitution since time immemorial that attempted suicide is a criminal offence, and I remember finding it funny years ago.
There is a need for a review of the laws of our land.
