This is a sincere, pertinent question that I would like to illustrate with an analogy. Let's say there are 20 students in a classroom and these students have varying intellects and varying levels of comprehending different subjects. Let's say there is a prominent polarization in the degree to which these students understand the subject of maths. Let's say the brains of half of the students are more suited to understanding maths than the other half, and no matter how much time is spent trying to teach the other crop of students maths, they just can't understand.

Now, wouldn't it be unproductive, and just a complete waste of time if the school still decides to invest resources in trying to get these other 10 students to understand maths?

I am not saying that the school should stop admitting students into maths class, or that the school should stop teaching maths to the other 10 students with brains more suited for maths, or that they should not try to find another bunch of students to add to the ten, but that they should shift their attention away from those students who just can't learn maths, in the academic context of anything that had to do with maths.

This analogy I painted bears a lot of semblance to all the hard work and time invested in trying to disillusion certain group of Christians on this sub. I believe that there is a certain component of the intellect that facilitates the ability to reason rationally and honestly, and to examine ideas critically and extrapolate accurate or near accurate conclusions from this examination, and these intellectual components are patently missing from the brains of these people. This is apparently a neurophysiological problem.The brains of these people aren't wired in a way that promotes even a scintilla of critical thinking. These guys are the equivalent of the 10 kids in my analogy who couldn't understand maths despite the amount of effort that was invested in teaching them.

Actually, the only time I have seen "free-thinkers" engage in thoughtful, profanity-free, mocker-free, mature and somewhat intelligent discussions..is when they speak amongst each other. Why? I wish they could transfer that to other people when engaged in discussions.

While i think you have a point,but we also have the duty to stop these 10 stagnant students from contaminating others with their deficiency.

Unlike ur example...The Religious folks we have in this class(section) are not bent on remaining unlearned. They are bent on spreading their ignorance to anyone who cares.

Secondly,some of them are not being held back by the inability to understand, they have fear, and are curious.. these ones might not really contribute in class activities, they are silent observers.

Some people actually need liberation.

You are definitely right, we can't convince any of them by using reasons, because they don't believe in reason in the first place.

This year, my aunt got a good salary job because of my mother struggle. My aunt and her families didn't thank my mother. Instead, they said, all the struggle to get her a job was only because of God and any thanking should be to God. She said, God had heard her words and it's his deeds that got her the job. I said to my self, **** every parts of you(my aunt).
