shadeyinka:Exactly, and one notable thing about China, they fought with their own systems. They have their own medicines, politics, and economics, only interacting with the West when there is mutual benefit. |

shadeyinka:Politics is Nigeria is enough to see how directionless Nigerians are. Nigerians vote mostly base on religious view. Nigerian political sphere is none base on what and which religion you belong to. It is more like Christian versus Muslims other than political ideology. APC is seen as Islamic political while APGA and the likes are seen as Christain political party. The church has turned to political campaign ground and Muslim groom for political office by using the voice of Imam to campign for policians. Politicians now believe they are Godsents and not public servants. The same thing is obtainable in Gambia. The political leader is backing his stand down on Allah. That is how it applies in all countries in Africa. Religion is the opium of the mass. Elite will take advantage of thay to control the mass. Religion is a tool. Apolitical weapon and the masses are stripped off their senses by it. India is not homogeneous when it comes to religion. I believe india has the highest number of spiritual groups and cults in the world. They are not much better as poverty is still in high rank there but technologically, they are doing better than we here. They are doing better because they looked into their selves. They hold unto their identiy. They didnt rely on their new tags. They didnt adopt British culture or way of life. They followed theie path by returning back to their root. We in Africa are still running after slaves master because we are conquered and chose to remain conquered. We need to go back to our root if we want to develop. Islam has it spiritual form. The form of Islam practiced in Nigeria is the directionless one. Islam contributed to world development. Reigning from medicine, Mathematics and general science. Spirituality form of Islam is called lm al-raml. How many Nigeria Muslims practice Ashura? Muslims here are fake puppet. The Islamic scholara here are blockheads. The Muslim Civilisation was outstanding in its outlook on the universe, humanity and life. And the science foundations financed by Islamic communities in those countries is outstanding. Muslims here are terrorists, rampaging nuisances and slowpokes. The same goes with Christianity in Nigeria and Africa at large. When it comes to intelligence deficiency, you need to check the churches. We now have youths who think praying to one imaginary God will bring them success. This is a world were JW hates on Catholic. CAC hating white garment church. And many others. We focus more on tithe than financing research projects. 38% of the UK and USA are SWBR (Spiritual without being religious). More than 25% are non believers and many more are secularists. USA has long thrown religion out of state amd public system. Africans need to throw away religion of the foreigners and take their own if we want to develop at all. The truth is spirituality defines the way you live. Your spirituality encompass language, dress, marriage and many things that has to do with humanity. A muslim hausa has forgetton Umbagiji and only shout Allah. They dress like Arab and live like Arab because theie identity is lost. A typical christiam will want to speak English. We despise Orisha but shout about Jehovah. We want to dress and live like European. We can only try but can not be them. why are we them wasting our time? An animal is far better than human who have no identity and value. Africans iwll never move an inch if we dont return bwck to our root. That is fact |

Rossikk:Don't be too hard on anotherydz. Somebof us measure Technological development not by the technologies you can purchase but the technologies you can make/produce by yourself. Like Saudi Arabia looks developed because they have money to maintain a rich western lifestyle but technologically backward. They even have to import medical personnel's from Nigeria. |

Muafrika2:Unfortunately, we have a serious inferiority complex which made us see our technologies and innovations as inferior. We used to produce iron from the stones (iron ore) in my village, now, the technology is lost. So many of our drugs are lost because the government will not collect and build the relevant institutions. I strongly believe (even though most people will not agree) that we need a "Righteous-Progressive-Brutal Dictator" to bring us out of this mess. Democratic government!? You know them, our politicians, can they ever change? |

shadeyinka:Bullcrap. Africa manufactures cars, clothes, military hardware, and has latent nuclear technology and capacity. I hope you realise there are 55 countries in Africa, from the Cape to Cairo, each with various specialisms? And Africa has a higher GDP, i.e. a larger economy than India despite having a lower population. The only weakness Africa has is its fragmentation into various nation-states. Individually they are weak. If Africa was a single country like India, there would be no contest. |
| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by FOLYKAZE(m): 2:35pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
shadeyinka:They are not religiously homogeneous in India, Japan and China. Whichever way they turn, they tend to look in within. African dont look within. They look after what master left for them. Christianity and Islam is the worst thing that happens Africa. Bith religion breeds hate, divides and ignorance. A religion or system that does not improve your knowldge toward your history and identity is evil. Islam and Christianity took away your history and distort your identity. |
| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by Nobody: 2:41pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
shadeyinka:Its quite unfortunate especially considering African knowledge was passed down by experience and word of mouth. Democracy has failed Africa already. Politicians are taking full advantage of its inadequacy. I hope the dictator will have a heart to empower his people and not just collect wealth. |
| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by shadeyinka(op): 2:41pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
FOLYKAZE:The emotion behind your post is moving. ..almost moved me to tears for my people. We in Africa are still running after slaves master because we are conquered and chose to remain conquered. We need to go back to our root if we want to develop. We indeed have chosen to remain slaves..until we free ourselves from the mental slavery, we shall unfortunately remain backward. I may not agree with your conclusion about us returning to our traditional religious roots for development to take place. You have well underscored that religion of Islam and Christianity are not adverse to Technological development so that the issue is FREEDOM of the BRAIN. North Korea and Iran are two examples. North Korea picked atheism as a religion while Iran picked Islam. But both has a defiant attitude to the west. They have taken their lives into their hands and are forgings forward technologically. |

Muafrika2:God help us. If the dictator is an evil one or one who has no vision for Nigeria, we are in serious trouble. |
| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by shadeyinka(op): 2:53pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
FOLYKAZE:I think you are too hard on the religious factor. If you look deeper to unravel why a few whiltes were able to enslave the blacks, you will find out that religion was not really part of it. The whites had a plan, we didn't. So they came and connived with "Black Slave Traders" who by the way were animists by religion. They extended their rule by conquering one king after another. The Benin kingdom was a good example. Of the whole of west Africa had united under a single umbrella, this wouldn't be possible. Interestingly, we practice our own Brand of Christianity and Islam as an extension of African traditional religions and believes. Me, I see as us exchanging a Polytheistic Religions for Monotheistic religions (Islam and Christianity). Other than that, the problem is Mental Slavery. |

Rossikk:Please give Examples of any African countries that manufacture cars apart from south Africa.? We dont manufacture clothes in Nigeria. Do we? If you don't make the machines, you have nothing! Let me tell you some things about Nigeria: 1. We cannot manufacture Needles and Pins 2. We don't manufacture Razor Blades 3. We don't manufacture Bicycles 4. We import papers, pens among others So tell me how you consider us developed. Francophone countries are even worse. They hardlybeven assemble anything. All they have are shipped in from France. |
| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by FOLYKAZE(m): 3:02pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
shadeyinka:Mental slavery is tied to religion. Religion defines how you think and view the world around you. The rules are in the book. You just have to follow it. It is religion who make some put on bomb vest while the other religion ban their women from wearing trouser. Have you seen Deeper lifer before? Are those guys thinking staright? Have you seen turbaned Muslims before? Are those guys thinking straight to you? Religion goes a long way than worshipping God/god. It is the center of our existence. And when it is controlled by foreign bodies, we are in trouble. |

| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by Rossikk(m): 3:03pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
The great Chinweizu wrote that the main problem in Africa was that it lacked a ruling class. He distinguished a ruling class from an elite class. A ruling class fights to maintain the interests of its ruling territory, by any means necessary, such as by developing its own weapons, banning foreign influences, foreign religions etc. An elite class is interested merely in enriching itself, and cares little for its territory. They are easy to bribe. Open to manipulation by foreign interests. A typical example of a ruling class is the leadership of North Korea. They will fight to the death to maintain their power and the integrity of their state. Against the entire world if necessary. That is a ruling class. Other examples are the UK, US, Japan, China, France etc. Nations ruled merely by the elite class include most African nations, Brazil, India, the Caribbean states, Mexico etc. You will find high levels of corruption in nations ruled by the elite class. |

FOLYKAZE:I still strongly disagree with you. I am highly Spiritual but then, I am not mentally enslaved. I know that several Nigerians like you are also free from this disease Christians, Muslims, Atheists, Deists and Agnostics alike. I have come across several intelligent Technologically inspired Nigerians (religious believe is not a factor). The problem however is that the Slave rules us because they have money to spread around and our society is still generally backward. |

FOLYKAReligion isn't the only factor that ties one to his root. How about language, culture, traditions and history. There are several things good with our roots but we must be like the Japanese or Chinese. Take what you know fancies you from western culture while not loosing your identity as an African, a Chinese or a Japanese. Most Japanese are Atheists... |
| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by Nobody: 3:17pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
Rossikk:How do you come up with innovations Nigeria? Lol. Those innovations you see on TV by kids and adults. where has the government landed them? Stop kidding. You know how the system works. |
| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by FOLYKAZE(m): 3:20pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
shadeyinka:It is on the major sides. Igbo language is fast dying. Igbo religion is gasping for breathe. Same goes to the North and many part of Yoruba nation. Ask a typical Yoruba son where Odùduwà comes from. He will tell you he is from Mecca. The other one who is Christiam will tell you he is fallen angel. WEe are confused and lost. All thanks to Christianity and Islam |

anotherydz:Stop waiting for government to do everything. Bill Gates was a school dropout. He didn't get any government assistance when he was building his first computer. Innoson is in Nnewi right now manufacturing vehicles. He did not receive any govt help. He is not sitting somewhere slamming "Africa". He's doing stuff. Do likewise and stop disturbing people. Same to other moaners on this thread. Every day Africa this, Africa that. Is Africa not you? |
| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by Nobody: 3:34pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
Rossikk:Lol. "Bill gate is a drop out". Yes it is true. lol. I'll advice you should go an read that man's biography again. Try to be a drop out in Nigeria and see if you will not smell pepper. Look at this man. ![]() |
| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by Rossikk(m): 3:37pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
anotherydz:Innoson does not have a university degree, yet he builds cars, buses, SUVs, and is supplying parts for Nigerian airforce jet fighters. If he can do it, nothing stops you if you put your mind to it. We can moan about "Africa" all day long, but the only thing that can really change Africa is for us to each get off our backside and do something. If enough people do it, we're set. We must develop a culture of manufacturing. It doesn't have to be big. Start making shoes in your backyard. Or clothes hangars. Or bags. Or jewellery. Instead of running to China to import, you get some machines and manufacture in your backyard, and sell. Finish. That is how countries grow. That is how China developed. Just look inwards. That's all. |

Rossikk:Bill gates started programming at the age of 13. Are you kidding me? What will ever make a 13-year old boy think of programming as an interest? A lot of things. Infact stop using Bill gate as an example. Because an average American is far more comfortable than his Nigerian counterpart! That's the fact. |
| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by shadeyinka(op): 4:42pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
Rossikk:I am in full agreement with your post. We need a "Real Government" not our kind of political class. Should we begin to advocate for a non democratic government? History has show us that there is no hope in our political system. |
| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by shadeyinka(op): 4:47pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
FOLYKAZE:No! Thanks to Mental Colonisation which we refused to drop even in the year 2017. We are still looking for an oyinbo who will come and "dash" us technology and development. We are still using their mode of economy till now, our elites can't think of something else. Its pathetic! A country of almost 200million who are direction less. SMH |

| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by Rossikk(m): 5:24pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
shadeyinka:It's not necessarily the system of govt you use. We need a ruling class that sees the survival and progress of the state as tied to its own progress and survival. A certain ideological basis for their allegiance to the state is required. This is why I think imported religions like christianity and Islam actually stand in the way of our developing an independent philosophical ideology/identity that can inspire, drive, and power a genuine ruling class. |
| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by shadeyinka(op): 5:35pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
Rossikk:I agree with you but you have a way of roping in Christianity and Islam as the problems. Like: How did Gen Abach die? And: He died of poisoned Apple from the Garden of Eden from the Bible the Christian read. It was learnt that Muslims conspired with the Christians or else, the plot would have been foiled. LOL hard! |
| Re: Why Africa Is Technologically Undeveloped by omohayek: 7:17pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
shadeyinka:You keep trying to divorce one side of the coin from the other, when my point is that they are inseparable; a fundamental requirement for one to be capable of scientific and technological discovery is to adopt a rationalist, empirical mindset which is the direct opposite of the demon-haunted one preferred by most Africans. What does that mean in plain English? Let me illustrate by example. Suppose you come across a group of people who are suffering from high rates of infant mortality, with children suffering symptoms such as "intellectual disability, seizures, behavioral problems, mental disorder, heart problems, a small head, and low birth weight". Do you 1. Call for Pastor Adeboye, Father Mbaka, or your favorite Alpha/Imam to organize a prayer session, to lift the curse that is said to have been laid on the villagers by their "bad belle" neighbors in the next village, and cast out the demons turning these children into witches, or 2. You carry out a survey of the affected and unaffected children of the village, record their families' medical histories, their feeding practices, etc., and try and draw up a hypothesis which can be tested? The typical Nigerian will choose the first alternative, meanwhile blaming "spirits", "demons", "witches" and supposed supernatural causes, while the rationalist who is acquainted with scientific method will pick the second option, and stick with the research program for decades if necessary, never allowing him or herself to think XYZ is the solution without testing that it works on a control group under blind testing. If XYZ turns out not to be a solution, the rationalist doesn't decide that the answer must after all be to consult the right prophet for a miraculous intercession, but that he/she simply hasn't found the right answer yet, and with enough effort someone will do so, publish their results for public scrutiny, and then have their findings confirmed through independent replication. Which way of looking at the problem do you think will eventually hit on the right answer? I'll tell you right now, as I chose the scenario above carefully: in this case, the disease is called Phenylketonuria, and it's just one of many such disorders which ignorant Africans would still seize upon today to accuse people of being "witches" and "wizards": read the history of the disease's discovery and you'll see how an empiricist, scientific mindset works. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenylketonuria#History When you're done with that, I highly suggest taking the time to carefully read up on the scientific method and how it works. http://www.geo.sunysb.edu/esp/files/scientific-method.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b240PGCMwV0 http://www.sciencemadesimple.com/scientific_method.html The key to being able to do science is learning how to do science in the first place, and to do that you really need to understand the scientific method, which is very different from memorizing miscellaneous facts and techniques for JAMB and WAEC exams. |

shadeyinka:Buddhaism is rooted in spiritual awakening and enlightenment. A Buddha is an enlightened one. Everyone crave to be Buddha. In Yoruba, Ifa is the voice of Orunmila (baba kekere fi nu sogbon meaning the short man who embodied wisdom) A Yoruba man who is initiated to Ifa corcle crave for wisdom and good character. Christianity is against knowledge and philosophy. The bible has warned against taking on oneself philosophy and knowledge. That is why we have sheep and dunderheads in the country today |
