It is not English that really matters but te ability to reason which can happen in any language or possibly even wihout language.

If a German or Chinese person speaks or writes with as many solecisms we never slate them for it. Let us actually start thinking.

I have met hundreds of Nigerians in ad out of Nigeria. There is nothing like a colloquial form of English used by Nigerians socially. Why? What you find is either pure pidgin or a hybrid of pidgin depending on social class. English serves us well officially but is highly inadequate for our soial needs whether it be music,humor etc .English language is totally at variance with the rhythm of Nigerian thought and ideas.

How many times do we criticise anyone for their bad Igbo or their bad Yoruba ?

What you mean is YOU,,,YOU would not have married him. I Have no idea what her spoken English is like. I also have no idea how much money the guy has do you?.
But I have seen Nigerians marry German,Belgians French,Chinese Japanese and so on that cannot speak English AT ALL and it was not for money or paper. Many English people living in England speak what I consider to be atrocious English and Nigerians marry them.The same is true in America.
I have seen Nigerians also marry people from Benin,Senegal Cameroun and so on who cannot speak good English.

ALL OF US have seen a man with PhD mary Faka and he did not have shoes and as far as I am aware she did not have a boutique

So if we can mary all of those why not a Nigerian as long as they can share one language together..

This days, is really had to know what to believe anymore. Lanre Gentry, Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe’s husband who has denied ever beating his wife, has written another post to debunk the reports making rounds on the media.

According to Lanre, if he has always abused his wife before now, how come she has continued to stay with him through thick and thin in their 10 years of marriage. However according to eyewitnesses, the fight actually took place Easter Sunday at their home and not on the set of a movie as the hubby claimed.

Indian man is ok? What is the official language in India. How well do Indians speak English

You can delude yourself all you like but the truth is that very few Nigerians are better at English than that gentleman.Nigeria has SEVERAL OFFICIAL LANGUAGES and whilst English may be the lingua franca of the elite .Very few Nigerians can speak it and most do not. At best you will find people speaking pidgin English whch is another language entirely.
The criticism of this guy is the QUALITY of his English. He was able to communicate which is the same for mos Nigerians that use English.The are not native speakers and do not speak high level English .Very very few people in Nigeria do. It is simply not comfortable and very few Nigerian elites have mastered any colloquial form of English other than pidgin English for social use
You cannot force me to become English by mere declaration that English is our official language.Language is a tool and the slave of man not the other way round. People like you are the slaves of language. Everyone learns their mother tongue NATURALLY. If language acqquisition is painful or uncomfortable that is enslavement.

If English is indeed our languuage why is it so hard to master. Use your head to reason.

Do french people German people or any other people acquire their own languages with pain.

English is the language of business in Nigeria.

Language is much deeper than that though and such depth is of concern to minds that think their own thoughts not learn those of others

India's National Language is Hindi & English & most of their nursery and primary school are taught in Hindi until high school, which is not the case for Nigeria.

I don't know how old you are but I hope you are not too old to stop what I call binary thinking i.e there are only two sides to a story thinking. The world is very complex and people do things for dozens of reasons. Maybe with maturity and life experience you will understand.

It is possible she married him for money. I do not know. The honest truth is that you do not know either. You are merely speculating and guessing
Whether she did or not cannot be deduced from his English that is just foolishness. The other thing to bear in mind about this so called marrying for money is it has many faces. People may marry a person with a list of criteria .On the financial front the criteria could be that Mr A may decide I want to marry a woman who is independent and whose family are ok .He has no intention of taking money from her but he wants to be sure he will not be regularly spending on her or her family.

So to some extent he is marrying for money .A woman may do exactly the same thing and to that extent is marrying for money. In reality it is just about marrying someone from a similar background so that there is not much liability one way or another. Money is in this example either the acquisition of assets or the avoidance of liabilities or BOTH

This is different from the daughter of an okada rider marrying Davido

Still there is a money consideration

In this particular case I just do not have any information or data about their financial situatiion or anyother thing to be making that claim

Of course there are many other criteria e.g lovemaking/romantic powers, looks, shared secrets and many other complex things

What does official mean? In your eyes you think you know it all when you know nothing.
Official means the language in which the businesss of government is conducted and in which laws are made. It does not mean that people must become experts in English or indeed acquire any particular proficiency.

Our law recognizes Yoruba ,Hausa and Igbo too as official languages just as Hindi is in India so please stop making a fool of yourself
Hindi is not the only language in India ,MILLIONS SPEAK NEITHER HINDI NOR ENGLISH There are ovver 20 official languages. Does that mean people have to learn them all

1999 Constitution as amended under Chapter V – The Legislature Part I – National Assembly Section 55 on Languages states:

“The business of the National Assembly shall be conducted in English, Hausa, Ibo and Yoruba when adequate arrangements have been made therefore.”

Whether English is the official language is totally irrrelevant to the issue here he is not a government official and has no obligation to be an English expert.


Language is not a TOP DOWN phenomenon. People do not decide for others what they should speak. It is a bottom up phenomenon and if the people are not speaking English then it is not their language.
Very few Nigerians can speak English that will not offend the Grammar police. Many cannot speak any English AT ALL

Nigeria's national language is English, we use it to communicate across all tribes. The Chinese and Germans don't communicate in English, they weren't colonised ( most/all colonised countries adopt their colonial ruler's language, Accounting systems, governmental system and in extreme cases, housing schemes and road plans), most of their population don't even understand English Language, they have their own national languages. I believe you should know these things, this is 2017. Failure to be able to read and write good English language as a Nigerian means that person is dull. Right from Daycare/Kg 1 to Ph.d levels, all subjects, lessons and exams are done in English. You don't even have to go to school to speak and write good english in Nigeria except you're just Lazy and have low IQ.

Seeing as you stated Ontario in your profile, I'll like to ask, is Canada a failure? If you were knowledgeable enough, you would have known Canada was colonized by both French and British at some points in time. French is a national language there, people speak it and also English also. Argentina were colonized by the spanish, Brazil by the Portuguese and Seychelles in Africa by the French, are those countries failures? Try better to make a better point next time.
