wow are these expenses hissssssssssss

rent 0 he stays in his own house
petrol for car 20k gen 2k because in has solar
car maintenance 20k
phcn 8k
feeding 50k
security in an estate 10k
dstv 15k
phone internet bill 5k
other expenses 20k

total is 150k even if he has to pay rent 50k for a mini flat in a good area so total 200k he has 200k left

And nigerians will agree with me that we can actually cut most of these bills down and still live well like dstv car maint etc
you guys have left nigeria too long to know whats obtainable here
a man wiith 400k job here is better than the man with 3k dollars in america ifu disagree pls break down expenses with 3k dollars in yankee for all to see

I won't bother with the rest. You are typing ideas not facts. Based on the above, you don't give anyone anything. Don't purchase gifts. Don't buy Asoebi. No family member asks you for favor. You don't buy clothes. Nothing you have needs fixing. LOL.

The one that brought me here is the 400k to 3k dollars. Hahahahaha. People who earn $1k a month live better than People who earn 500k in Nigeria.

You are asking for breakdown yet people stay in 3-bedroom apartments in Oshodi for 500k a year and they had to pay 200k as agency fee. You need to see the ramshackle that is going for 500k in Nigeria. In Lekki phase 1, people rent out their boy's quarters (studio flat more like) for 1M naira. Just look for a $400 per month apartment in Missouri and see what will turn up.

Remember the 1M per year rent BQ is for a so-called big boy in Nigeria and yet he cannot build houses and rent out things to tenants. But on NL, people are starting empires with 100k. LOL

please read and understand I said the man with 400k salary every month can reduce some of the expenses I wrote up there for example dstv instead of full package he goes for 10k package and he will still have great channels and watch live football he has saved 5k also for his car maintainence he cant spend 20k a month if he has a good car some months he wont even spend nothing on maintainence

for the medical thing huh tell me something a company that can pay entry level 400k wont sort out medicals abegi when even chinco companies here sorts out medicals please tell us the company let me quickly make money from them cheesy cheesy grin grin

This level of ignorance is something else, if you have a Tokunbo car, I dont care the grade and you save 5K in month one, you cant beat your chest that an expense of 10k will not show up in month 2, that is assuming we are holging the exchange rate between the 2 months constant in our beloved Nigeria where dollar affects the price of gala and plantain chips in Traffic, if not then all that your calculation may never balance for a whole year

What of those in business? Keep deceiving yourself quoting statistics from online blogs, continue, this is how you will be sold when you eventually gather enough ticket money to come back

All stats, reality and facts are against you.

Which Nigeria do you live in? Tell me please.

There are so many things you are oblivious of that is why I told you to employ restraint in making these grandiose statements you keep making.

Just the same way you have Ikoyi, Lekki and Maitama, that is the same way you have Florida, Newyork and California. So telling me to justify the worth of a $3k a month earner in California is disingenuous. California and Newyork are 2 of the most expensive places to live in.

If you want to make a solid case for your argument, find out what the low, middle (upper and lower) and upper class earners in the US earn in general then juxtapose it with those in Nigeria. I can give you an example. The people who earn $3k a month or $36k a year are regarded as lower class earners in the US. Those in the $50k range are middle and those above $140k are the comfy bunch.

Now armed with this information compare the lower class earners in Nigeria to those in the US and see how asinine your argument sounds. The $1000 per month apartment in NY (studio flat) is where low class earners live in but in Nigeria, the Lekki big boys who can afford N1M a year for a BQ stay in the same quality of apartment and still have to provide themselves electricity and other utilities that are readily available in NY.

You said with 400k you can stay in Ikoyi but that is a lie. Liveable apartments in Ikoyi (not BQs) go for N3M+ a year. I have not added the service requirements or transport/car compulsory expenses. I have not added the need for steadypower that will cost him more than 300k in a month (if he wants to squeeze 12hrs a day of power). He has not added the cost of his daily living and contingencies.

On the flip side, an AVERAGE (I mean bang average) earner in Canada or US will stay in the same quality of the Ikoyi apartment above simply because he is partaking in a better economy. I mean, the minimum wage in Canada is $11CAD an hr and even an international student can work 20hrs a week during school session and more on holidays. Working with the 20hrs a week such a person can earn over $200CAD a week or $800CAD a month. He can live somewhere where he pays $500CAD and go to websites detailing apartments at that price range, they will measure up with what people pay 1M for in Lekki and Ikoyi.

Can you see what I am doing? I am showing you how minimum wage earners enjoy the same quality of life as Lekki big boys. Tell me, which Banker with less than 10 years experience can afford such luxury let alone a minimum wage earner (19k per month in Nigeria)? LOL

Y'all are funny. No matter how much you insult and defend either country, no matter the different permutations and scenarios y'all put up, people that wanna travel will travel and ppl that will stay will do just that. All these my friend bought 12 G wagons in one hour, my friend built 5 houses on top of each other, all that ain't you. People will make decisions based on their situation. Logically, if you have it good here, why travel and if you got nothing, why stay, right? Yea but ppl will still do what's best for them. Some ppl can't stand naija, some ppl can't stay away. Whatever floats your boat. Some ppl insulting Abroad prolly haven't had a realistic legit opportunity to move permanently and ppl insulting naija prolly don't have anything worthwhile doing here. To each his own my people. If I stay, no need for insults and if I relocate, there's really no need for insults cos it really ain't nobody's business. The 400k dude has a brain and he'll make the decision that will be favourable for himself and his family. For all we know, dude fit don even dey Canada dey wear winter jackets n sh*t. We out here insulting ourselves and our precious Naija.

Then who are those people that live in shared rooms and rent basements in America cause I saw some Nigerians doing it. Renting basements, one got thrown out and had to be in freezing weather until God rescued her. Painting pictures of Eldorado will only make some people victims, continue

See your life? You can't do without name calling and insulting people which proves that you are an unhappy person despite your claim to living in paradise. If I didn't know about Canada and Nigeria I wouldn't be here. I'm also here to let the OP know the value of what he has here in Nigeria but it's not do or die like in your case.

FYI I'm also on threads on America, UK, infact most other threads like this and if I didn't know about some of these places I wouldn't be there too.

Since you love Canada so much why do you spend so much time in the travel section of nairaland(Nigeria land), shouldn't you be enjoying your country, doing other things besides spending 24hrs a day on a Nigerian forum, responding to every post written by Nigerians who love their country?

You don't know anything about Canada. Your ignorant statements shows that. Go and sit down. You've never lived/worked here full time. Because you had a visiting visa probably years back, spent a few weeks abroad max, and now you're an expert ? Now you're also an expert on America and UK. Do you know how diverse these 3 countries are ? Do you even know how different Canada and US is, despite being the two most similar countries in the world ? So you were born/bread in naija and have never lived abroad. Yet somehow you're an expert on Canada,US, and UK ?

I use a desktop for work, and high speed internet is a norm here not a luxury. With a relaxed work day I can be here frequently. Besides wetin concern you ? I also don't rarely respond. I only go out of my way to respond to you. You're an enemy of progress who knows nothing about the west. People come here for sound advice/personal experience about abroad, hence the title of the thread. So if I can give me personal experience on Canada/Nigeria, which I've lived and worked, while having citizenship of both countries, what's the matter ? Again explain to me what makes you qualified to even give this individual advice ? I will challenge your alternative facts, and false sense of reality when I choose too.

I called you and your partner to read that thread but you shamefully declined

A boy was given N200 million contract in this same Nigeria where foreigners like you still think that Internet is a luxury, who will do such for a black person in that miserable cold place where you live

Why haven't you destroyed your Nigerian passport since you think it is a hell hole, you should be ashamed to identify with us, so why proudly state that you are a Nigerian citizen?

You live in paradise yet somehow you can't do without crawling up and down Nigerian forums trying to feed your ego and validate your decision to move permanently. Are you looking for partners in misery, people who have deep regrets about building their future abroad but get high when they hear Nigerians moan because it makes you feel less miserable?

I don't have to give you the history of my life just to make you think I'm qualified to speak on Canada, you can jump into the lagoon if you like, that's your business.

I have made my points and if the OP thinks they are valid then he can make a wise decision by remaining here, multiplying the money and going on vacation when and where ever he feels like(God willing)

You are in heaven on earth yet 24/7 you dey nairaland travel section don't you have places to see there and things to do? At least I am proud of Nigeria but you who hate this country should be on Canadian land forum to chit chat with your fellow country people since you are so jobless.

Mr. Canadian citizen, you will never be known down here, no Canadian citizen is well known down here, whereas countless Nigerian citizens become great personalities or at least have a chance to be. Even in your country your chances of becoming somebody worthy of recognition is very slim, go and enjoy your good life while we here get the chance of becoming more than just your average Joe cheesy
U are such a mediocre and so disappointing and disgusting, why should u always resort to abuse and insult instead of u arguing neutrally and state ur fact if at all u have any? Madam better u work on ur brain and learn from those that are ahead of u or else u continue to being d fool of all!

The tail does not wag the dog. I cannot use isolated situations of lazy/illegal immigrants to project my expectations. The guy in question wants to go 1. legally 2. Seems to be intelligent and Hardworking.

Based on the afore, I have to point him out to people with the same traits that made it over there.

You are the one painting eldorado about Nigeria which is not the case. You say someone got a contract of N200M in Nigeria but a Nigerian who went to Loyola Jesuit and Princeton also got start-up capital of $1M in the US. So what are you on about?

Another Nigerian who had a first class degree from UNN was frustrated out of the job market till he aced the GRE and went to MIT on a full ride. Today, he works for Google and uses the resources he earns to not only sponsor his family in Nigeria but he also started a company as well.

I am not insulting Nigeria. I am dispelling the lies and false narratives people are peddling here. Nobody has told everyone to leave Nigeria. But I would advice someone with the challenges of the OP to port. That's all.

The issue with people like madam Pidgin is that anything that is not flattering to Nigeria, even if it is the truth or reality, equates to hatred or an attack on Nigeria in their books. That is the binary outlook people like that take and so they willfully blind themselves to any objective analysis of the country.

The result is that by taking this position they inadvertently highlight they very shortcomings they want to cover up and so we end with the comedy of delusion that is this thread.

. . . and it is my job to call out all this for my wicked enjoyment cool grin

After seeing this old post quoted above I had to address it . . . for my own enjoyment of course.

So Nigerians don't know the likes of Drake, The Weeknd, Keanu Reeves, Keifer Sutherland, Jim Carrey, Celine Dion, Ryan Reynolds, Ellen Page, Brendan Fraser or Justin Bieber?

Tell me something

If I was him I would not even think of moving 400k is a good pay I would be thinking to establish. I would set aside my fear what if "I loose the job" , I get fired, the company closed down, because all these things can also occur in developed countries every time. Trust me you also don't wanna be jobless in freezing Canada.

The government takes care of its jobless citizens. Its not Nigeria where you're basically on your own.

hehehehehehehe where do you buy your cars ooooooooooooo grin Ihave been driving a car for 2 years all I v done is change oil and filter andbi use it everyday to work if you doubt go to car talk section on nairaland abi where you dey stay bad like that grin grin

Maybe you dont understand comprehension, that you drive that car for 2 years without it giving you any problem has no correlation what soever with you or what you did to the car, you were just luck, you asked me what company will pay 400K to some one and not take care of medicals? you lack of exposure should didnt tell you some have already factored medical into that 400k which means it no longer upto that amount if you back the medicals out. You have asked again where I buy my car from, bros the profile of you am putting together based on this questions is gradually taking shape. Its a dangerous thing to create a cocoon yourself and live there all alone.

This is a thread people took too personal, at the end of the day its a personal opinion, aside from that, there is not much to compare.

The key too your happiness is that you have made things work for you in Nigeria and you are contended.

its wrong to compare a low level worker abroad to a professional in Nigeria , thou in pay they might be equal.

But if someone is making 400K per month in Nigeria the question is how much are you really worth and how much can you make abroad?

If you are a Banker in Nigeria and you go abroad to be a Gateman , then the people from the village are involved.

But if you are a guru in software development earning 400K in Nigeria and with your skills u can work for an IT firm and earn 8K dollars monthly before tax , then may be you should consider it.

Lots of people in Nigeria doing great things and making a lot of money, same thing abroad lots of 25 year olds earning over 100k Dollars per year

But in summary based on logistics abi statistics Nigeria as less opportunities , infrastructure, quality of life than a developed country even the President runs to UK every time for medical check up

Firstly
I like your reply this is maturity unlike those that will comw and abuse my life

The guy in nigeria and the gate man may earn the same salary when you change the dollar to naira but the gateman doesnt stay in nigeria his expenses will be way higher than the professional the nigeria guy will be able to save 2.4million a year in nigeria with that money he can live for 1 year but convert that money to dollar it bcomes 6k that money will not be enough for him for two months...... the gateman will not be able to even save a dime

I think many people dont know this before they leave for the states they are carried away with the conversion till they get there

Sir 400k every month in nigeria is not small money sir thats someone salary in a year in nigeria and the person still gets by, but 400k in yankee is 1000 dollars is very small money

unless you work in usa and lives in nigeria then I can say you are on point which is not possibe
I agree opportunity is low in nigeria standard of living is low is low too there are no infrastructure sef grin but I believe if you have the means to create a good life for yourself I believe its better you stay back

thank you grin

I have noticed you are patient and I envy you.

Someone takes the plight of illegal immigrants who cannot get decent jobs and are in tough cities like Cali and Newyork (which makes them squat and jam themselves together to make ends meet) and proffers it as a reason he is happy with his decision. He compares himself to them and uses it to ill-advice someone else but is offended when the reality of his braggadocio is unveiled to him.

Who has advised any banker to leave Nigeria to work at McDonalds in the US? In the same breath, will I prevent someone working for Goldman sachs in the US from coming back to naija to serve as a Minister?

That is why context matters. My friend who works at Amazon now was with Consolidated Breweries before she left Nigeria. Except she won some type of lottery or was opportune to steal alot of money, there was nothing in Nigeria and on her path, that would have shown that by 2017, she would not only drive a Mercedes in the US and live in Silicon valley, but that she would also be able to purchase a property in Nigeria worth N25M.

Doubt me, look for people working in Heineken/Nigerian Breweries since 2012 and find out how many mansions, buildings under tenancy and cars they now drive. It is only on NL where people get all those things with 100k P/M yet auditors working for KPMG have not figured it out even when they are supersmart and earn about the same P/M.

Funny stuff.

Funny stuff indeed...fusipn23 said 25-yr-olds abroad make it in high digits..even 40-yr-olds here are in bad shape. Does Nigeria know or care about the unemployed..? Come on!
