| Nigerian Referendum by EzeUche(op): 6:33pm On Mar 09, 2010 |
I think it is about time that Nigeria had a national referendum amongst the major groups, Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa-Fulani to see who wants to stay in this union or opt out of this union. If Sudan can have a possible Referendum and that country has seen much bloodshed, why can't Nigeria have a national referendum. Are people afraid to see how the Nigerian people actually feel about this nation? Let us have a referendum before Nigeria spirals into chaos! |

Who's Afraid of Freedom? |
| Re: Nigerian Referendum by Fhemmmy: 6:39pm On Mar 09, 2010 |
I think it will be nice, but would we have people at the table that are ready to discuss? Would we have to bring cutlass and guns to the table too, cos Nigerians seems now to only understand violence |
| Re: Nigerian Referendum by EzeUche(op): 6:49pm On Mar 09, 2010 |
Fhemmmy:Violence begets more violence, but in this 'Banana Republic,' I would bring my gun, just for protection. The people of Southern Sudan are building up their army, because they do not want to go into the Referendum process unarmed. And you know what? The world is supporting them. |
| Re: Nigerian Referendum by Fhemmmy: 6:59pm On Mar 09, 2010 |
EzeUche:Soon, many Nigerians will start carrying guns, especially those in the North and that is really sad. |

18 platoon:Was such statement necessary? |
| Re: Nigerian Referendum by 006(m): 7:12pm On Mar 09, 2010 |
I think the call for a referendum should be amplified after Southern Sudan's plebiscite. Then it will carry some weight. |
| Re: Nigerian Referendum by effizy123(m): 7:17pm On Mar 09, 2010 |
That is why people have been calling for the sovereign national conference to decide if we want to stay together as a nation. if we want to stay together, the basis of that union will also be defined in a new constitution and not the fraudulent paper that is being touted as the people's constitution. |
| Re: Nigerian Referendum by 18platoon(m): 9:07pm On Mar 09, 2010 |
@fhemmy, i was just saying the bitter truth. |

18 platoon:Hush! I will not be dragged into a Yoruba vs. Igbo battle today. Right now the south needs to unite against the north, so leave your bigotry at home. |

| Re: Nigerian Referendum by Katsumoto: 2:23am On Mar 10, 2010 |
I would prefer a situation whereby all Nigerians voted rather than having representatives at a conference. With what has happened in the past, I do not trust anybody to speak for me. If we all vote according to our state of Origin, then percentages can be used to determine who wants to stay or leave Nigeria. For instance, the bar may be set at 55%. So if 56% of Ijaw people vote to opt out, then Ijaw can be out. For all the regions that opt out and are in close proximity, they can decide whether they want to form a union or not. So if the Igbo and Efi/Ibibio people both opt out, they can both decide whether they want to form a new nation together. |

18 platoon:Please lets leave all kinds of bigotry out of this discussion. The original poster has started a very useful thread; lets not derail it. |

^^^ Seconded |
| Re: Nigerian Referendum by EzeUche(op): 3:16am On Mar 10, 2010 |
Katsumoto:I like that idea, but I think it should be based on regional blocs. If we go by state of Origin or ethnic group, then Nigeria would be reduced to hundreds of pieces. I support having a North, Northeast, Southwest, and South East voting bloc if a referendum happens. Many of the people who are in these regional blocs have common histories and cultures so they should be lumped together. Anyway, Nigeria should watch the referendum vote that will be occurring in Sudan in 2011. |
| Re: Nigerian Referendum by Fhemmmy: 3:18am On Mar 10, 2010 |
EzeUche:So now we wanna be modeled after Sudan? . . . . Kai, Nija don suffer |
| Re: Nigerian Referendum by EzeUche(op): 3:31am On Mar 10, 2010 |
Fhemmmy:We should not copy anyone, but Sudan would be the first African nation to ever vote for referendum, so of course we should watch. |
| Re: Nigerian Referendum by Katsumoto: 4:06am On Mar 10, 2010 |
EzeUche:The idea of regional blocks sounds fine on the surface; its just that the smaller tribes may complain again at some point in the future. Damn Nigeria is too complicated. |
| Re: Nigerian Referendum by yorubason: 9:28am On Mar 10, 2010 |
The major ones that are still having stupid faith in this DEMONIC country called NIGER-AREA are the old ones around. I am happy that the youths of different nationalities of this stupid country have the mind to secede. Believe you me, if we continue with this our awareness, by time the likes of us get to the seats of government, it'll be an instant disintegration, AMEN!!!!!!!!. |
| Re: Nigerian Referendum by EzeUche(op): 1:11pm On Mar 10, 2010 |
Katsumoto:Yes, they may complain, but Regional blocs would be the best outcome, then having one unified country. Like I have said before in previous threads, I rather drive a small car that works than a big car that doesn't work. Nigeria is a sinking ship, and the sooner we realize this, the better. I would be in support in dividing Northern Nigeria from Southern Nigeria as well. The people of the Middle Belt could be included with Southern Nigeria. |

Seriously, i wasnt yabbing and no pun intended. Debates is all about superior points. I will be a fool if i dont accept points which outweigh mine. Thus, Its not about being in agreement, but the fact that u are stepping up ur points of debate and presenting good points. |
| Re: Nigerian Referendum by Katsumoto: 2:47pm On Mar 10, 2010 |
chosen04:LWKMD I guess only pro-biafra points are superior or at par with your points. Anyway, I get your point. |
| Re: Nigerian Referendum by chosen04(f): 3:20pm On Mar 10, 2010 |
Katsumoto:PMYMHMMFSWGAS Superior points will always be superior no matter who used/said it. |
