Igbo620:
Wawa isn't any group of people, wa or wawa is how some people in part of Enugu state and Anambra say " No". In imo state some say olom which is equally no in that area. That word has it's origin in ancient Agbaja people of north - central Igbo. Read about Agbaja
Anambra has nothing in common with Wawa. Anambra is the head while Wawa is the tail.

No part of Anambra shares anything in common with Wawa people. Anambra people are not lazy and poor like the Wawas

Anambra people have nothing in common with wawa people. Nothing at all. Besides, wawa is not a dialect. It is a people. The unfortunate people of Enugu state.

Fellow Igbos, I initially commented on this thread just to answer something I thought was an innocent question, who wawa's are? They are simply people who speak the wawa dialect of Igbo. There are the 'Ijekebes' mostly spoken around the Onitsha area. Even in Asaba, we have the 'diokpas'.

There is no language, be it Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo that is uniform. They all have dialects and sometimes, a group of people can be refered to, by the dialect they speak.

There are still many Igbos who when they are out and about, will speak normal central Igbo, but when they get home, will start speaking with their immidiate family in their native Igbo dialect. Most Igbos can still speak their native dialect, so what is the big deal?

So please me fellow Igbos, disregard this thread that was resurrected by an Afonja agent of division called Nonsobaba (he is probably the one who started it with another monika) so that his fellow Afonjas can carry on with it.

I only comment about this because more Afonjas will do this in the future

Wawa people are the unfortunate people of Enugu state. They are actually half-igbo, half-fulani. They are the poorest and laziest in the igbo race. Most armed robbers, beggers, street urchins, househelps and ipods that you find in igboland are actually wawa people. It was due to this stark difference between us, the real anambra people and them that we decided to end our association with them by asking the federal govt to split the old anambra state and create a seperate state for them in order that they don't defile us with their backwardness.
tell me! are you mentally retarded?

The correct spelling is Waawa.

'Waawa' is used to refer to people from Enugu State.

It came from the way the people say 'no'. It actually means no, and is unique to Enugu especially the Enugu West and East senator I'll districts.

In the days of old Anambra State, the people from old Anambra South (today's Anambra State), naturally abrasive, arrogant and so full of themselves (ref. The poster just quoted), were using it in a derogatory manner and described Enugu (Waawa) people with all sorts of expletives.

But today, Waawa people are proud of themselves and their city, Enugu, the best city in South East which actually started to make progress when Enugu State was created from Anambra and their proud and egoistic henchmen chased down south to Awka.

Today, every well-doing Anambra man has or dreams of having a home in Enugu. In fact, the big men from Anambra all live in Enugu and that's a fact!

I am Waawa. Thank you.

I don't see anything wrong in someone wanting to know about a phrase or a people.

There is nothing negative about Waawa.

Great people you might know like Prof Barth Nnaji, Senator Ken Nnamani, Jim Nwobodo, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremmadu, Peace Mass (owner of largeat land transport fleet), Patience Ozokwo, actor Keneth Okonkwo (foundation of Nollywood) and even Nkem Owo, etc. are proud sons/daughters of Waawa land.

@nonsobaba, unless you have an agenda as earlier posters have hinted, Anambra people are great Igbos, Enugu people are also great Igbos. So are Imolites Abians and Eboyians. We all (with our brothers and sistrrs across the Niger) make up that great tribe know as Ndigbo.

No point subdividing further, we are already too subdivided and alienated from our kiths in the large multi-ethnic and multi-ligual nation -Biafra land.

Wahala again
Re: Who Are The Wawa In SE? by ElsonMorali: 9:28am On May 20, 2017
I know for a fact that some Igbos call some other Igbos wawa, like a derogatory name or something.

I think Igbos from Enugu are mostly referred to like that.

I was told this by my igbo friend.

I think it means dull igbo or igbo that's not sharp or worldly wise.

My opinion.

You started well but ended up like someone with a complex problem, go deal with it instead of dissing on Ndi Omambala
Re: Who Are The Wawa In SE? by otil1: 9:40am On May 20, 2017
Exactly what I talked about. Some stupid superiority complex that has no basis.

I don't want to glorify your stupidity but this is 21st century not back in the days.

It is also needless trying to compare Enugu and Anambra or any other part of Igboland for that matter.

We are all the same. Same!

So, good bye dear 'superior' Igbo man grin
