This evening i will write on some machineries required to set up garri processing plant which can produce up to 1tonne per day.


IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER: Among the major things to take Into consideration in project of this nature are the following:-

1. The Processing shed.
2. The Equipment
3. The availability and source of raw materials
4. Possibility of future expansion
I will write on number (2). The equipment, then may be i will later touch the rest.

The Engine: An engine will be needed to power the garri greater and another one to the power sieving machine.

The Machines.
1. Cassava Processing Machines (1 Ton/Capacity)
Four tons of raw Cassava tubers will on completion of processing produce 1 ton of finished garri product.
The List of main necessary equipment is as follows:-
1. Tuber Washer.
2. Grater
3. Presser (Dewaterer)
4. Two Fryers
5. Trolley

(i) Tuber Washer:- This tuber washing equipment consists of steel paddlers rotating in a metallic cylindrical container in which water passed continually. The tubers are poured inside to be stirred vigorously and washed.

(ii) The Grater: Consists of a lid, a metallic container hopper lined with thick wood inside, a tuber-mashing roller with cylindrical screen on its surface (which should be replaced regularly), an outlet for mashed cassava and a pulley. The grater is belt-driven by the diesel engine. The grater will process 4 tons of raw cassava tubers in a day of 8HRS.

(iii) The Presser:- The dewatering press consists of a 10-30 ton hydraulic jack press, strengthened steel bars, angle iron channels etc. Twelve bags can be pressed per hour.

(iv) Sieving Machine: This machines will sieve the cassava. The equipment consists of pulleys, strong steel frame a rotating sieve. The screen is easily removable for cleaning anytime.

(v) The Fryer: Each fryer consists of a chimney and comes in two veriants 4by4feet and 4by8eet.

(vi) Trolley and Wheelbarrow:- These are for transportation of cassava products about.

I do not know the part of the country where you live.
If the quantity you will be drying is not that very plenty i will advice that you use sun dryer. You can get a Carpenter around that can do that...
