Nairaland Fantasy Tabloid - PLAY-OFF EDITION

The Play-Offs is here!

The season is coming to an end and its time for the real contenders to emerge among the pretenders. At the beginning, mukina shared our precious code to all her neighboring cousins from Djibouti, Mongolia and western sahara that saw our league infested with different characters and left us wondering why we were stuck at the 9th page even after half of the season was gone.

Carefully and painstakingly, a lot of managers found their way out of murky waters and soared towards the playoffs while the rest either got caught staring at foreign managers or looking down at the local teams. The playoffs features 8 of the finest and most refined managers and teams, separating the chaff from the wheat.

FA CUP

The competition for the most elusive trophy in the nairaland head-to-head competition will turn bloody this week.

Dyabman consolidated the top spot with 24 wins, the highest win in the Fa Cup. He will b facing Sodeeq Fc, who managed to make it to the playoffs as a result of the last day drama that saw Masterpiece slip out of the top 8.

Ranger Regiment will be squaring it off with Viqta FC in the second FA Cup play-offs quarterfinal. The Rangers have the 2nd highest point in the FA cup log having scored 1975pts so far and would be hoping that counts in their favor as they take on their opponents this week.

Jet Bombers will be storing up enough ammunition as they look to face Dayo’s Silence of the Lahm in the 3rd FA cup fixture. The Bombers will be hoping praying for the Silence to remain serene as they look to offset one of the oldest clubs in the history of Nairaland league.

In the last fixture, the highest scoring club in the FACUP log, Samurai Monsters will be playing against Dapmose FC.

Notable Pretenders:

Nwikys Victors: The Victors ended at the bottom of the log after losing 21 times in the league. It must be a disappointing run for the ever lively manager having taken his team to the top-10 of the nairaland league at a certain time when it didn’t matter. The Sunderland of the league will be spending the next season on the lower division after failing to impress this time.

IPUKUL FC: Ibime might be the most decorated manager in the Nairaland league, but he would be asking the basic question right now; who decoration epp. Making it to the play-offs would naturally be the dream of every competitor, but only the weak and lilly livered get punched out of the way. We will love to wish Ipukulu well with his decorations, and thank him gratefully for not deleting his team this year.

Lailaboy-Agbero FC: Our own lailaboy had it all going well this season until things started going awry. He would have been our highest scoring manager if the Bench boost was available every week. He watched helplessly as his bench returns more points than his starting 11 week-in-week-out.

FA CUP II

Gesuke Wolves with a wonder-26 wins in the league qualified for the playoff as far back as December when the likes of AZ’s Gucifer where trying to get their first win of the season. He will be facing Naija Ninjas in the first playoffs of the week. It’s a David vs Goliath fight with no hope of any offset.

Red Mambas will be squaring it off with the Squeezers in the 2nd match of the season. The two teams are currently battling injury crises in their respective teams and it would be interesting to see how they sort it out and who comes out tops at the end of the team.

Mazi’s Xhaka-Laka will be slugging it off with McKane FC in the 3rd leg of the playoffs quarterfinals while the last leg will see Inter Reformers slug it out with Who you Help FC.

Notable Pretenders

Brutallion FC: We understand that OAM4J might be busy moderating the most noisy forum in Africa, but it will be nice if we all suggest a more subtle team name for him next season to avoid the ‘bigger than life’ presence his team carries while in true essence, they are just a complete set of mediocre. I will go for ‘Meek and Gentle FC’, ‘Catch them young FC’, while the manager should kindly change his name to Peacemaker.

Guccifer: Az went deaf and dumb this season, partly due to the fact that he was humbled and couldn’t manage to keep his head above waters. We pray we see a more humble manager next season, maybe we should just allow him play in the carling cup so he can gather some mojo.

The Elite 10

To celebrate 10years of the nairaland league, we decided to bring in the finest managers to compete in this cup. Call it the champions league of the nairaland fantasy league as the winner will have the bragging right as a landmark general.

The fixtures for the quarterfinal are as follows:

Xhaka-Laka vs Lailaboy_Agbero
Librans vs Aba FC
Who you Help vs Guccifer
Silence of the Lahm vs Bourne007

Interestingly, this is the only major honors some of the managers will be vying for; so we expect the likes of Guccifer FC, Librans and Aba FC to put up a strong fight but still succumb to the other superior managers.

Watch out for the semi-finals of the carling cups and conference cups next week

I really enjoyed the FPL, and being no 302 in NL league isn't bad for me aswell.

This will be the first season I never fail to update my team except for 2 or 3 game week...
S/o to every managers in the house, and congrats to those that made it to the cup round

I wasn't there when the argument was made but I believe it would have been a bad idea using the h2h format. Peeps will be reserving their chips and waiting for the playoffs. Imagine that Lalaboy pulled his bench boost on me this week for the quarterfinal at the Elite League. He will win and play his tripple captain on someone else next week. So in all, he may finish up wining the cup after having an abysmal season.

I prefer the format it is right now.

Yea, it is a game well played if and only if you are playing for the cups. When priorities are on the league and not cups, a different approach is needed.
My priority this season was in the money league.

So far, so good.

It's allowed na, no? It's a strategy and what the game is supposed to be about. Some others used their chips to qualify for the playoffs.

The game has just begun with everything to play for. The semi-final in the FA cup is in sight, hopefully. The strategy employed by the manager of Dapmose fc is working just fine baring any last minute surprises.
