The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on Monday announced the closure of manual process for company registration in five states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Business Day reports that the announcement was made by the Registrar-General, CAC, Bello Mahmud, during a media briefing held at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Mahmud said the states involved are Enugu, Kaduna, Kano, Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Abuja. He added that the move was part of the efforts to improve the business environment and make Nigeria an easier place for businesses to thrive.

He said the implication of the closure is that the commission has now phased out the physical submission of new applications for registration.

As a replacement, he said a Company Registration Portal had been created where those seeking to register their companies can upload their applications online.

He added that the online registration process is cheaper, faster and more convenient as transactions could now be conducted from anywhere.

Nice move. Been long overdue. That is if it will not a whole day for their page to load and one week for register to be completed. Naija we hail thee!

The portal has been up since 2015, in fact you may not spend up to 30k to get your limited liability company, unlike when some greedy agents will charge 80-150k for coy reg

Kudos to PYO for being proactive in making Nigeria more conducive for doing business. These are the reasons I've been screaming against Baba's extremely slow pace of getting things done. We can't afford to be crawling to development when others are moving on to conquer Mars.

nice one, those are developed cities inwhich they believe having access to the internet is very easy.

it will also curb bribery if and only if, they allow electronic payment or bank transfer.

I'm always afraid of digital processing in Nigeria, a lot of stories and errors are always accompanied, wrong data capture, misplaced or wrong spellings etc. Typical example is d National drivers license, National Id etc. Anyway let's see how this goes, nice anyway.

yeah, to the idiots, the presidency makes all decisions. In fact, all heads of government institutions are just figureheads. They don't make their own by-laws

The portal has been there since 2013 but don't know why it took them so long to completely drop that excessive paperwork.

They claimed they needed time to retrain their staff but for how long does it take to train staff on computer usage?

They just made company registration so cumbersome with agents/middlemen and bribe for their staff.

Anyway, better late than never. The move has this following implications:

1) More business for Cyber Cafe operators

2) Loss of business for those so called agents/hustlers usually crowded at CAC offices

3) A more convenient and faster business registration
