Coach Of South Africa Picks Out Three “Dangermen” In The Nigerian Team SA Must Stop

Newly appointed coach of the Bafana Bafana of South Africa says beating Nigeria in Uyo when they clash on the 10th of June in the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers is possible.

The coach who realised a squad of 25 players for the tie insist he has a squad mixed with youth and experience who will be able to get a positive result against Nigeria.

” We are not scared of Nigeria, we just need to be at our best to stop them from causing us trouble. Everybody knows about the quality of Victor Moses, Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi, they are by far the three men who can do damages for Nigeria “, Baxter said.

“We have also looked at aerial strength and tried to spread that well throughout the team; it means if we can have good preparation before we go, then we have a squad that is capable of giving Nigeria a good game.”

NPFL IMAGE BOOSTED BY IFEANYI UBAH AWAY WIN
By Kunle Fayiga

The Anambra Warriors recorded the biggest away win of the season, and it’s a triumph that offers a big lesson for Nigerian football

Fans trooped out in their numbers to come and watch the beautiful game as the Nigerian Professional Football League resumed last weekend, but the one place that left supporters shocked was the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, where Shooting Stars Sports Club suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at the hands of FC Ifeanyi Ubah .

Indeed it was a game that took many by surprise, as the Anambra Warriors took the lead as early as the second minute through last season’s top scorer, Godwin Obaje and then added a second through Seka Pascal.

The Oluyole Warriors never found their bearing in the game, despite having more chances to find the back of the net, and even a debatable penalty that was awarded to them was wasted by Adebayo Abayomi.

Ifeanyi Ubah were reduced to 10 men at 2-0 and still managed to find a third through King Osanga via a well-taken free kick.

The result in Ibadan stood out among the weekend's results, with away victories hard to find in the NPFL considering teams' win-at-all-cost mentality at home.

This attitude has slowed down the progress and growth of club football in the country, as it means most teams don’t approach games with the right mindset, which can cost them dearly.

Hopefully, Ifeanyi Ubah’s emphatic 3-0 win, which is the highest scoreline for an away team since June 2015, will serve as a turning point for the NPFL.

The major highlight of the game was that it was totally incident and violent free.

Typically, away wins in the top flight often raise suspicions of refereeing bias in favour of the travellers. This is particularly true of the Anambra Warriors, conisidering the wealth and connections of their owner, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.

However, the refereeing in Ibadan had no bias whatsoever; Shooting Stars were given a penalty and their Nnewi counterparts received a second yellow card, but neither decision led to protest from players, coaches or supporters.

The Oluyole Warriors' supporters remained on their best behaviour despite the embarrassing result, knowing fully well that their team had only themselves to blame for what was a poor display.

Even as the Anambra Warriors' players made their way out of the stadium, the Shooting supporters congratulated the visitors for the well-deserved win.

It was the kind of display of sportsmanship rarely seen in the Nigerian top flight.

It wasn’t a great day for the other south west teams in the division, as Remo Stars and Sunshine Stars lost to Enyimba and Lobi Stars respectively in Shagamu and Akure, but on the flip side, it made it three away wins for the weekend.

Three away victories in one weekend is a good development for the Nigeria Professional Football League, as it's a rare occurence in the division, it hasn’t happened since the opening day of last season.

It would be of great importance if the League Management Company and other football stakeholders' could use the example of the Shooting Stars vs. Ifeanyi Ubah game to demonstrate to teams and fans that away wins or draws are possible without coercion, and that outcomes must be accepted without trouble or violence.

Violence had erupted earlier in the season when Akwa United won 1-0 at Kano Pillars, leaving players, fans and officials injured, while Gombe United keeper Emmanuel Fabiyi was assaulted by his own fans for allegedly allowing Rangers to score a last-minute goal in a 3-3 draw at home.

These kind of incidents only damage the league's reputation.
There were six away wins recorded in the whole of the first stanza of the NPFL season, but to have three in one weekend could be the sign of better and brighter things to come.

It is the hope that concerned parties learn from here in a bid to move the beautiful game forward in Africa’s largest football nation.

Eagles, Corsica, Togo friendlies on despite France’s state of emergency

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has affirmed that today’s today’s international friendly between the Super Eagles and Corsica in France, as well as the game against Togo on June 1, will go ahead despite the state of emergency declared by the French government.

French President, Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday requested that parliament extend the state of emergency until November 1. The president, who revealed this after meeting with the Defense and National Security Council, also called for the introduction of legislation to boost security in the face of the terrorist threats in the country.

Reacting to the development yesterday, Super Eagles’ Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye told The Guardian from France that the political situation in France would not in any way affect the friendlies lined up for the Eagles in the European country.

He disclosed that the Eagles, who had their last training session for the Corsica friendly yesterday night, are in buoyant mood for the game. He revealed that Coach Gernot Rohr and the other officials of the team have concluded their strategies for the friendly, adding that the players have been given all guidelines that would to follow while, before and after the matches.

“The NFF investigated all the security issues in France before allowing the Eagles to play the international friendlies here. Here in Corsica, everywhere is peaceful. The other game against Togo would hold in Paris and we have been assured that the state of emergency would not affect the games,” he said.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles and AS Monaco wingback, Elderson Echiejile has said assured that Nigeria will not underrate the Corsica when both sides lock horns this evening at the Stade Francois Coty, Ajaccio.

Uhmmm... Sir Chrismario has answered you well.

On one hand, He is right about Ebuehi needing a competitive game to cut off completely any chance Holland may have of wanting to cap him....

On another hand... This will still count as Ebuehi's first cap for Nigeria although not a competitive one.... that is if he does get to play.

Case Study :

Remember Alex Iwobi starred in the friendlies in late 2015 against DR Congo and Cameroun in Fifa windows.... two FIFA recognised International matches and still was not assured of being free from England's claws until he made his competitive debut against Egypt in Kaduna...

So you see... this is how it goes with respect to the Nigerian players brought up in the English system and also those born in England with Nigerian roots or traits.

Note: I think there is also the issue of the age of the players of dual or more nationalities involved.... If a player is eligible for three nations for instance and gets invited at age 18 by country A, and he honors it and plays and then decides few months down the line that he prefers Country C now and not A and B isnt even on his radar... and he is not yet 21yrs... then he is allowed to switch provided the games he featured in were only friendlies...

i'm glad this man doesn't know of the lioes of Etebo and Ndidi that likes to shoot from outside the box.

He reminds me of comments like:

"Nigerian team is filled with kids"

And

"Iheanacho and Iwobi are the dangermen for Nigeria"

This one now added Moses, as per na him score two goals against Algeria.

Next is Cameroon coach saying "The dangermen are Iwobi, Moses, Iheanacho and Etebo"...

Keep em guessing

No plans to leave Manchester City – Iheanacho
Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho insists he has no plans to leave Manchester City despite being a peripheral figure at the club.

The Super Eagles player is being linked with the likes of Everton and West Ham United due to his lack of playing time at the Citizens, where he is clearly behind Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero in the pecking order.

However, Iheanacho insists that he has no plans of leaving the Etihad Stadium and expects to be part of the club’s plans for the 2017/18 season.

“I’m not very aware of that,” the Nigerian is quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“I just keep working with the team and I’m still at Manchester City so I’ll meet up with the boys and kick off the season with Manchester City.

“I’m happy to stay at Manchester City and keep fighting to help them achieve what they want to achieve.”

Iheanacho added, “Manchester City is a big team and we need to go far as a squad, so we need everybody.”
