So I was watching a series of shows about prophecies concerning the end of the world, Armageddon and all that and I couldn't help asking myself: what really is the point of all this? Why are we here if all of this will still be destroyed at the end. I mean, we are born, we grow up and spend much of our life building ourselves so we can leave legacies behind, legacies that will ultimately all be wiped away. If we are looking at it from a purely scientific point, then there is no point. We are basically a cosmic mistake that will eventually run out of time and existence. However, if we are looking at it from a religious point of view, then there has to be a reason, a point for being here at all. I mean, why can't we just cut the whole middle period between being created and the afterlife (which is being alive here on earth) and just go straight to the afterlife? We work all our lives to build houses, buy cars, land and all kinds of things but science and religion agree that one day, all of these will be wiped away. So what is the point of being here in the first place?

This question led many to religions in centuries past as many claimed to have answers to them...but in the real world, life only has one clear meaning,survival..

Sometimes ruthlessly to procure offspring and spread your genes further into the gene pool,or altruistic by ensuring your fellow human beings survive with you, as social beings we've survived mostly through altruistic means with bursts of savagery in between..

Whichever answers you choose to life won't have an effect on the question itself as it remains open to whatever meaning each person sees, coupled with our desires and the epistemic barrier of what human minds can perceive in the first place..

Most people answer the meaning of life with how the world treats them,I answer the meaning of life with the joy it brings that at this moment in time I lived, loved, was conscious of my actions both good and bad and tried to maintain a good wellbeing of myself and others as I capably can.. I don't care to know about religions and their gods whom never are at peace with either themselves or their so-called creations or more arrogantly label peace to be in agreement with a certain dogma that is forever shielded from inquiry because of its weak basis.

Knowledge is what I love most in life and the ability to question and improve on such knowledge,I have hobbies and those hobbies are what drowns the noise of the worries I have in life..

Life is like a rats wheel. You run and it looks like you are making progress but it's just a perception. There is nothing special men are doing here. And you live to die just before bringing an innocent soul to the world to repeat your stupidity all over again smiley

In short, we're all prisoners of life serving hard time because Adam could not resist the evil fruit.

Life is programmed by super intelligent being. For what purpose is what I do not know.

Even with money, whatever I buy or build or create, it would still be destroyed at some point in the future so what's the point?

So I

Hello.. i believe some things are worth it.. life is worth it.. it doesn't need to last forever.. the fact that it does have an end should make you appreciate it even more.. coming from a religious standpoint, I'd say our purpose in this life is to mature spirituality and be one with God.. from a religious standpoint that is..

Sister,
If one has no hope in life after the grave, then unfortunately life kinda becomes meaningless...so one would be right..
If, however, one has a belief in fellowship with an eternal God..and a new eternal life in a sin"less" world (all of this being through faith), then interestingly enough...things on this earth will grow strangely dim. One's focus begins to shift between what's important and what's not.
It then matters what one has been called to do on this earth....and how that calling impacts people.

The point of life is to use your brain, to first better your life and that of your world.

And after death, to enjoy volcano of beer and bevy of bitches, in FSM Kingdom.
