Pidgin2, the most patriotic Nigerian I have ever met online.

As much as I don't have an "abroad" mentality, I dislike our leaders with passion. I will stand anywhere to defend Nigeria in the midst of our common enemies (majority will do same oversea, especially when confronted by pathetic racists).

Brain drain is a serious issue, but in the case of Nigeria where unemployment remains extremely high, there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Over 1 million candidates sit for JAMB exam yearly. If the so called brain cannot harness the available or unavailable opportunities, then they won't be missed at home. Buhari is a case study here, his absence and presence add NOTHING to my life. He has long been replaced.

You don't know that America was once undeveloped? You seem like a novice as it appears you keep arguing out of point

I mentioned America because Americans developed that nation, it wasn't done by angels but by the collective efforts of the citizens meaning development can be replicated in any other country by the same procedure

I don't feel I'm lecturing you, I know I am because you don't know much dear, take care.

It's good, let them go, this country is over populated. As soon as a large number of people migrate we will have more things to enjoy here, I'm so happy about this news, you should be glad because life will be much better when fewer people are using the available resources we have here, less people struggling for jobs, cheaper food stuffs, cheaper housing, etc I sincerely pray this is real.

Dream on bro! U feel population is the problem? I can assure you that these middle class will leave and your so called government will continue to suffer you. Job you will not get..good road you will not see . The jobs will be given to unqualified connected few anyway.

Meanwhile, are you aware that middle class is what sustain small businesses ? You will be shocked economy will suffer for it. Health sector collapses when middles class leave. Only mediocre professionals are employed and the sound ones find their way to a better society . Get your facts right next time and stop sounding like a victim of circumstances

correction: we have enough inexperienced, unspecialized graduates.
There are a lot of specialized scientific fields we are experiencing serious shortage at the moment. Nigeria doesn't have the facilities to train some scientists, so we train them abroad where they end up getting poached.

I seem to recall the national body for doctors crying about a shortage of doctors. To my knowledge there are a lot of graduate doctors, but there is a scarcity of some specialists.

I could go on but point is no country develops if its best keep getting poached.

Come to think of it...What's the essence of this thread?

The middle class have always loved the idea of traveling abroad since the period of Awolowo. I wonder what the OP wanted to see at the exam centre. Do you expect to see Bicycle or Maruwa? Who else can afford the expense?

Poverty has never been the main reason people travel abroad. They leave with the hope of making more money. The idea of enjoying basic amenities is largely an excuse for those whose high financial expectations remains unmet. Anyone with money in Nigeria can enjoy anything, including freedom.

Yes, I was coming to that but after reading your exaggerations I changed my mind

Here's a quick one, with a reduction in population, you will definitely have fewer people struggling for the available resources we have, for example, right now, because of high demand for good schools, prices of school fees are high to get quality education but when there are fewer people demanding such, prices will reduce

Wherever demand is high, prices go up, with a reduction in population, prices of goods, services, transportation will also reduce because fewer number of people will demand for it hence there will be a surplus in supply, bringing down the cost

Also, Nigeria being one of the most populous multi ethnic black countries is battling with how to utilize our human resources at the same time manage population explosion. Unfortunately we do not have correct data to help us solve this problem. There has to be some control and accurate data on population growth and it's implications for us in order to truly access and harness what we have

Our main problem is our inability to manage our explosive population complicated by our open borders where foreigners can easily mingle and do whatever they want

Because of our multi ethnicity, our population has become too big for someone to properly manage at the center this is why true federalism is the answer.

Other issues of concern are: laziness of the average citizen, lack of patriotism, change in attitude and value of the masses(get rich quick or die trying), tribalism, bad leadership, and corruption.

Good day

pls go, you'd be doing us a favour by going. Your children will be happy that you left, and my children will also be happy that you left too. That means fewer people struggling for admission opportunities into universities, fewer classmates for him, and that automatically means better teacher/student ratio in favour of te teachers, which will translate into better attention paid to every student including my child. This also means better educational outcomes. The list goes on and on.

ofcourse, everything you read in school then is a true reflection of reality! Evolution is real, ravity is realm capitalism, socialism, political economy and all those other topic taught to you in law and other disciplines ARE REAL!

the problem with your likes is that: when other people from other parts of the world, or some Nigerians who travel abroad, and then turn back to use these same things you learnt in textbooks, which is what they teach them too is those universities abroad, to sharpen their eloquence and come here on NL to rubbish Nigeria and rob the likes of you who live here in Nigeria, your self-esteem, you quickly agree with them and say something as embarrassing as "oh, what they have is painful but true". It is then you would begin to channel all the blames to the leaders and say "i blame our leaders...if not for our leaders", as if you have been a good follower yourself.

And let me tell you: the attitude you and your likes are sowing here in this thread, is a reflection that if you were in the position of our leaders, you would not even know how to do things and when things get complicated, you will chicken out, just as you are trying to chicken out because you can't manae to solve your little family's economic problems.

So don't you ever say "i blame our leaders...if not because our leaders have looted us dry, who is Ghana, SA or Kenya to say rubbish to us". You can't say that because you yourself would abandon the country should you face challenges.

there are other patriotic Nigerians too. The likes of Rossikk, and those Nigerians on the military thread in the foreign section. The thing is: you don't find them in other threads because they can't stand the inherent cynicism that is the automatic behaviour of the average Nigerian.

The worst things is this: this incomprehensible cynicism, is further reinforced by massive ignorance!

seriously?!! did you read what I typed?!! Nigerian universities are better than what? are you being sarcastic? Patriotism is good, but yours is something else.

I repeat, Nigeria doesn't have the facilities to train some specialists as long as these don't exist, the brain drain will continue. Go to some parts of Nigeria and see one professor lecturing in over 10 different universities. why? he is the only specialist in the that region.

OK!! i just saw this post and understood what you meant. Now let us go to that era: Newton and maxwell were English scientists who had an enabling research environment.

I have seen Nigerian scientists perform local research that would baffle those two if they were alive. Thing is, who in the government cares?

As they are here for now, what are they doing for the country? They are of no use to us here in the first place as most of them do not care about being useful to their home land so it's much better for them to go and contribute to their new country, there's nothing to be worried about.

Those of us who care, will contribute our own quota to make things better for our people.

don't mind the so-called brains that are said to be drained. Just because you have a masters, PhD and other professional certificates does not mean you are a 'brain'. A 'brain' that came out of the university and had to look for job? The 'brains' that have worked in our institutions for long, and still didn't change much? The 'brains' that could not stay back to revive the organizations in which they work, but thought about running away when their organizations begin experiencing challenges, are not brains in my opinion!

To put my point more clearly; real brain drain is not a footballer playing in our local league and running away to beg clubs in cyprus for a trial. Real brain drain is a foreign club coming down to offer you a contract and willing to pay your buy-out clause because they have been tracking your style of football and are impressed by you.

So, i don't think we should be bothered about those so called brains that have to go and write an exam in Oregun so that they would go and join the emplyment queue abroad to get a better deal.

If it was a true brain drain, those foreign companies would come and offer them jobs, while they are still working in their respective organizations and contributing inmensely. In this case, the companies will be the ones to go to embassy here in Nigeria to help secure their visa and work permit even before these true brains take off from Nigeria.
