Only thing I know about Halifax is that rents starts counting from the 1st of the month regardless of when you move in. Lots of people settle in Toronto , its the IT and Financial Hub, but whats your plan are you coming in as a student or PR?

You can always use LinkedIn to scout for jobs .

Accommodation is a bit high but manageable based on your taste and the area, you might not be able to afford downtown.

Pls who has information about WES.My brother paid for his credential evaluation two weeks ago through western union but till date no acknowledgement of payment. Status is still showing "waiting for payment". Despite several mails to them, no response still. He called their line, it was music till all his airtime ran out. What should we do. He cannot move to the next stage except this is sorted out. Help please.

Hello beautiful people....really excited to have found this thread. Please can those currently residing in Canada, particularly Edmonton help me out on this issue. I intend to relocate in a month or two with my husband and kids. Due to the high cost of daycare, i intend to stay at home and take care of the kids atleast for some time. So my questions are:
(1)what kind of businesses do you think i can do from home?
(2)what Nigerian products are highly needed over there which i could bring over to sell?
(3) any business idea sha....lol

To those who have recently gotten PR and travelled, did you travel on a one-way ticket? I keep hearing that you will not be allowed to travel (on some flights) using a one-way ticket.

My first travel was on a return ticket, because I knew I was coming back to Nigeria.

My second travel from Nigeria was on a one way ticket, nobody harassed me.

Moreover, it's an immigrant visa, they are not expecting you to come back.

My advice is book which ever is cheaper depending on your preference of airline, some airlines come cheap with one way ticket, while some don't

BC is a province i love and will continue to love because no city is extremely populated than others EXCEPT Vancouver and that is basically because of the weather (they hardly experience SNOW, for those that don't like snow).

In the end, it is a matter of adequate information and personal choice.

I landed in YYC(Calgary), after declaring my Nigerian food stuffs, I was shown the way to the new immigrants registration room.

However, you would be on the regular immigration queue till you get to an official who redirects you, after seeing your visa.

No questions were asked, the official just told me to sign, and welcome to Canada, I should update my address and PR card Would be sent there.

No questions on POF, and I carried physical cash.

I then moved to another room to declare goods to follow (can't remember the name again)

Calgary was where I intended to land, but you can change your POE as long as it is not Quebec

Surrey is a moderate city and part of metro vancouver. It is a nice city with decent number of jobs, peaceful city like most cities in Canada, and more diverse culture. When i saw Surrey, the thought of my favorite African restaurant came to mind. Lol

I would limit the amount of food stuff though. They really take a lot of space in travel bags when travelling. Most Naija foodstuff are sold here. The only food I request from Naija is stock fish, dried ponmo, dried cray and maybe iru (locust beans).

Hi dear, been following up with the thread and tryna see if you were still able to get the info from your husband. My wife has a background in medlab but desires nursing in canada. Someone had told us about the 19months program at york uni and said she has a chance since has a good GPA.

I am still researching and just want to know if she has to do prerequisite courses first. Did your hubby choose Ontario as his province or he immigrated through other means? Also is OSAP still on and is it grants they give or loans?

Yes he did take some prerequisites like psychology online from Trent university or so.
OSAP is more like a loan, I think you repay half over a period of time once you start working and based on your income.

2 years work visa in what profession ? with one year Canadian work experience u get lots of point with PR, so yes its easier to get PR after one year.

If i may ask, do you have the two years work visa right now.
Sorry to burst your bubble but if you are applying from Nigeria and you are Nigerian, I don't think we qualify for the two years visa (please confirm very well so as not to hear stories that touch) But incase you have the visa, yes, you can work then apply for permanent residence or even use the express entry route which will serve as a plus for you cos you have Canadian work experience.
