Your concerns are very legitimate and i feel for your pain bro but i believe that our orientation system to school and life is very poor. We only look at what we can get from life and not what we can give. So from the previous generation till now we go to school for what it can offer us after and not what we can use to offer others. So lets say i'm studying accounting.. I can begin to practice in school (because alot of us forget that the institution is also a market) by offering small startups or businesses around school my service. Before you know it you have a company and are employing others. Street doesnt give job neither does university..university is meant to widen your level of productivity and not gurantee you a job. So lets get productive man |

OP we should try to correct our mentality 1 we automatically think that if you don't get a job after university education, you are a failure. This thinking is wrong, going to school is not for job only, it's help in many ways like the way you think, the way you relate with others and the way you approach problems, the way of doing the same business more better than someone who isn't schooled. 2. Going to school especially higher institutions automatically give you chances of mingling together with top business mogul, drafting your business plan and so on 3. If money is everything, why is Dangote sending his children to schools, can't he make them head of his business? This shows that there are special opportunities with schooling apart from using that certificate to secure a job 4 finally, OP won't you send your children to Universities? Based on your opinion |

Yes op you are right. There are no jobs out there but some how, I manage to change jobs like tissue paper. I change when I am tired. I change when I need more money. So don't be afraid. Add more value to yourself after uni. Don't just rely on your bsc. Try to be strategically positioned nwaimostate5: |

nwaimostate5:firstly let me say this, when there is life there is hope. don't give up. you talked about business how are you sure you would have made it in the business or trade, their are people running businesses for years and they are yet to make millions dear. see the positive part in you, think of what you can do after school, learn a trade during service, find your passion, work on it.. some of us are meant to go tru the schools to better our life, everyone won't be a. entrepreneur, some start with working for other people. So you have a high hope, work on yourself.. WORK HARD, WORK SMART |

nwaimostate5:You are trying to sound reasonable but you are far from it. In fact, your logic was far below what I will expect from an undergraduate. I don't know the kind of education you got from your so called university, but let me tell you before you start to discourage other people that you're not sincere with yourself. First, by 2013 when you got your admission, the problem of unemployment has already been there. So, why did you choose to go ahead? Secondly, who told you university education is a ticket for employment. Education is meant to make you a solution provider. Thirdly, who told if you learn trade or handwork, you would have been a millionaire. Please go and take a census of OKADA riders and you will see how lack headway with their handworks have frustrated their lives. The best time to start planning your life is now that you are still an undergraduate. Stop making excuses. The essence of your education is for you to know better. If you read marketing, you should know by now that there are a lot of online marketing activities that can earn you good income. Go to Unilag, there are lots of students that graduated as millionaires doing genuine stuff. Instead of you to educate yourself on how you can earn money now that you are still getting a little back up from parent and relatives. Wait until you finish your saved allowee after NYSC, then you will know the koko. You better start looking for ways to help yourself now and stop looking for jobs you don't really deserve in the first place. Education is meant to liberate you, it not your meal ticket. Get sense and stop being childish discouraging younger ones coming up. |

nwaimostate5:I believe you bros, nothing like personal business Or being one's own boss. I have my south east brothers with primary school certificate but with the brain of micheal scofield controlling billions with 1st class holders working for them. In today's Nigeria, na business win am, cos you will ance your own freedom and control your business. I was a business guru while in school, but after graduation, rather than keep my business and expand , with my certificate under my bed, I sold my business went for service, relocated to the city and got a nice job. But bro! I am tired of working for a pay check. It is never enough,, plus the stress you have to go through is not worth it. I regret selling my business and moving to the city. Its now I am trying to build my businesses again. But it not always easy to start all over again. What our youth fail to understand, is the fact that the world has moved from the era of go to school , get good grades and get a nice job with retirement benefits. That worked during the industrial age. We are in the computer age where it is no longer certificate , but sabificate. Your parents sell their only land to send you to school, after school no job. Whereas , that your childhood friend that was your best friend, stopped at secondary school, went to the city to learn a trade, whether or not oga settle am, e nor care. He pass out, family sell their only land to establish him in business and today, not only is he comfortably married, he has a house in the city and village, went back to the university part time, and today he is also a graduate and a business guru. So why university first? Just asking too. |

nwaimostate5:The bolded is where I believe you made a mistake. You do not have to stay that long seeking admission. Same I tell young students today, simply choose a less competitive course that you can handle effortlessly score very high in UTME and apply to schools (If you must study Medicine or Law, ensure the brain is there). You can be in any sector by studying any discipline, get informed of after school early enough (another mistake by most students, I knew how things were outside the system. No one physically told me this, I utilised my time online wisely. Knowing the system early enough is better than when you are late), utilise your time there wisely - this is extremely important, hope for the best and prepare for the worst etc. Presently, I will advise you develop a SWOT plan and begin working on it immediately. Visit Jarushub (it has been priceless to me) for more. I wish you the very best. Determination + Perseverance + Hard Work = Success. On the flip side....it is disheartening reading the stories by Nigerian youths today. Honestly, the country has failed her youths. |

@OP I really understand what you are going through, been there myself. Lost my bed of roses early in life, got admission early in a polytechnic, finances were bad (and I was immature) I dropped out. Re-wrote jamb, got admission, things were still tough but I scaled through with a good grade courtesy of the G-factor (GOD factor!) Post NYSC, no job, hope was bleak but "He made a way"! You can't rule out the G-factor in your race in life.Even if you are loaded and have all the connections, things can still go awry for you if the " G" is not on your side. You need "G" in your race - GRACE. Please, turn it over to GOD |

"I will prepare and some day my chance will come." -Abraham Lincoln "Luck is not chance-It's toil. Fortune's expensive smile is earned." -Emily Dickinson This is what I have to say. You spoke realistically but shallow mind. With this, how do you encourage your friends out there who has not gone to school and desire to go? "The purpose of life is life for its purpose. doskie:Sir, being successful doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the amount of formal education received - it took me a while to realize this though. It is the optimistic mindset coupled with strive in the right direction that bring success. |

nwaimostate5:Sir I must say it's your mentality. You going to school will give you a edge even if you want to learn a trade, more so you studied marketing. Try to re-structure your mind towards your life after school. Make your family proud. |

when I was in secondary school I was among the best in my class,is either I came first, second or third I never had any position below them re: who told you that you were the best? maybe the best crammer. my parents were so happy and proud of me and vow to train me up to University education even if it will cost them starving just make sure I attend University because they were poor. re: so why do you want to fail them? After hearing this from them I became so happy and elevated (remember those feelings then that u will go to University, those feelings no be here) at that time I don't think about anything else except University, jamb, post utme , life in campus and any other thing relating to University. I wrote my first jamb in 2009, scored above 260, then score relatevely high post utme but I was denied admission in one of the federal University in Nigeria not because I didn't meet the cut off mark but because I don't have money to runs the admission,I lost the admission that year and became so frustrated and dejected. let Make it short, i have been writing jamb from 2009 till lastly in 2013 when I got admission to study marketing in one the state University in South East. re: that's the sad Nigerian Education reality for you. I,m in my final year now studying marketing just few months for me to graduate. You may be wondering while i,m writing this, now let me tell you. I,m writing this first because ...... 1 I,m frustrated right now because after graduation I will start roaming the streets looking for job. re: How you take know? Did Octupus John Paul tell you this? Why are you even poke nosing into your own future she? 2 Had it been I use those time I spent in writing jamb and do business by now I would have been s millionaire by now. re: so every businessman in Nigerian is a millionaire abi? 3 Had it been my parents advice me to learn trade by now I would have been my own oga controlling millions. What if after you finish learning the trade oga no settle u last last and no money to open ur own, maybe after 7 years apprenticeship? 4 I have to start afresh and enter the streets for hustling because there is no jobs out there, so why the certificate when I can read and write with secondary education. re: you sure say no be pass you wan take graduate so? Then, why did I spent all the years looking for certificate that I may not use tomorrow because streets pays more than salary. Which street be that make I follow go collect. Educated street hustle na him sure pass. I remember how I hustle during holidays to meet up the needs in school thinking after graduation good jobs are there waiting for me. Should I said I wasted my time acquiring University education or what, somebody should answer me. I think I regret Ever going to University. Lastly, I know how you feel brother I also share same sentiments sometimes but believe me you are better off educated than uneducated. Rely on knowledge you have garnered thus far,and on God not on a piece of paper. |

God has destined a bright future for everyone. A man blessings can be found in 3 places 1-In heaven- divine grace and favour 2-In his hands-handwork 3-In his brain- thinking faculty, intellect So therefore everybody has a chance to make it in life. |

Honestly bro, you went to far to write this remember university is a shortcut to be rich but does not guarantee that you must be rich the main reason you are going the university is to acquire knowledge in a particular field and to be educated. (note that education continues after school) the the problem most youth are facing, they think money is everything(might be to some people) but the most important in life is to do what you think you love to do with all your heart and passion then every other thing comes in. Try to figure out the area you know that you are 100% good in. As for me I have discovered mine just waiting to graduate so as to give it everything I've got. Be wise lots of opportunities are waiting for you..! |
