stop spreading lies!!! Igbos never declared war on Nigeria. They only declared independence due to the pogrom against Igbos living in the north, and with British govt instruction and backup, Gowon being the head of state of Nigeria declared war against Igbos (Biafra) in order to bring them back to Nigeria...so stop spreading lies plz......Igbos declared independence, Nigeria led by Gowon declared war against Biafra!!

Ignorance is terrorism, ( Ojukwu never Declare a war, he only declare Independence ) Does Nigerian Constitution made provision for declaration of Independence.
If it's that easy, so many villages would have become a country.
Get knowledge, get wisdom, GET A GRIP, I rest my case.

....The Igbo believed in him and Ojukwu told all the Igbo to go back to their respective areas. At that time, the Igbo were holding various positions in government, but they all left. When they came back after the civil war, they found that the Yoruba had occupied their positions, and till today, they have not regained such positions, and they will never regain them

There is the game's joker. They (Igbo and by extension the SS) will never regain them is truly the silent gentleman's code, an agreement secretly guarded by the ruling elite about the no victor no vanquish war.

Do whatever it takes, but do not let them return to their previous glory.

Pre-civil war the Igbos virtually reigned supreme in all facet of the economy
.

Igbo were majority in service industries, education, top rank military officers as evidenced in the 1966 coup, commerce and investment/industry were there strong point, due to the adventurous nature and willingness to live outside their region they dominated in the civil services and were rapidly promoted due to their 'can do' nature.

A code wrongly applied today- that has led to all sort of crimes. G-unit had them in mind when he said Live rich or die trying.

All that advantage was lost during the 1967-1970 war, that is even glaring till date as it took an Igbo man almost38 years to head the army again and he was quickly bandied out with all sort of accusations.

What is however not obvious is the agreement reached during the war and implemented secretly till today by Northern and Western Nigeria ruling class and elites. The agreement to never allow the SE and Igbo by extension full integration either politically, economically or geographically but to keep them perpetually subjugated to the allied interests of both Northern-South-West interest ruling elites.

The strategy was to reap from their fallen estate and threaten them of their place in the advent of a malfeasance.

This is mostly used in the South west with a constant reminder that this is not your land, or the Oba of Lagos threat to drown them in the Lagoon if they do not do his bidding.

In the North, the Purge technique is used. An ethno-cleansing of Igbo by death-happy Fulani-Hausa youth on any little opportunity.

The aim is keep the South-East and South-South region under-developed by a deliberate combination of retaining power and critical national infrastructures via government policies in the North as well as the South-West.

This is the lot of the South-East/South South and the Igbo.

There is so much injustice a people can take, no one can blame the Igbos for their struggle as marginalization of the Igbo in Nigeria is so real that you can touch it except you are just trying to be clever by half or speaking from both sides of your mouth.

Free the Igbos.

Which civil service? The one in Imo State or Anambra or the one in Sokoto or Maiduguri? And last I checked, the entire Federal Civil service does not have up to a million employees. So I wonder which phantom civil service Yoruba are in majority in.

Also, isn't it the usual refrain that up to 60% of employable Nigerians are out of jobs and that the Private sector is the largest employer of labour.

Is it that we like to do away with verifiable facts only when it favours our biased opinions? Nigeria is no longer in the 1970s and the capital has been moved from Lagos to Abuja for the past 26 years.
I guess you didn't read the original post. Read it and we'll argue better.

The Igbos lack diplomacy. Painful as this may sound, it is the obvious truth. That is the reason why they need their Biafra cos in the scheme of things (especially politically), it would be next to impossible for them to ever lead a diverse country as Nigeria.

Oh! They are already exhibiting on the thread.

Because of corruption and poverty in Nigeria I don't really care or bother myself about this biafrian stuff.

But one thing is clear.

If you treat me well I will be with you. If you treat me badly. I will leave.

HOW? is irrelevant. It is just a matter of time.

Friends do it. Lovers do it. Employees and employers do it. Even families do it.

We know what to do to stay together and we also know what to do to split.

Its quite unfortunate WE HAVE DECIDED TO DO THE LATER.

NAIRALAND IS A CONFIRMED CASE STUDY.

I share your frustration.

It is possible that division is what will fix us, and it is also possible that it wouldn't. But we won't know except we try it.

However, we need not divide for its sake. We need to anticipate problems division will cause and have ready-made solutions for them, else we will risk making all the mistakes Nigeria is currently making again but only in a smaller country. South Sudan is a good example.

Division doesn't necessarily mean the serious issues of corruption, oppression by the elite, nepotism, discrimination, sectionalism, suspicion and all the other problems we currently have will disappear. We need to find solutions to these problems first if we intend to have a better country whether in Nigeria or a new independent nation.

This thread is new, not even half a page yet and Ibos are already racing off Yakasai's comment to spew hatred. For once, listen to what the man said in this interview, you are behaving in exact pattern the interview was scripted to influence your emotions. Is he god? What makes you believe that these things he said about Yoruba and Akwa Ibom and Cross River people against you are true? Why is he not talking about the various ways in which North has betrayed Ibo or as Sultan of Sokoto recently admitted, "they killed Ibo in North necause they invaded their communities and set up trades and became affluent".

Do not surrender your emotions to his words, stay strong and wave him off. This article does nothing to subtract or add to your struggle, Yakassai cannot move biafra forward or ret.ard your progress. So why respond with hatred to those who you truly need to aid your mission.

This time around make it mission accomplished, not mission impossible!

Baba.. u are so reasonable... the problem with ur comment is the generalization.. but ur way of reasoning is superb.. i fit buy u chilled beer! Oya come make we go drink.. the truth be say.. i am more comfortable among yorubas than northerners.. at least christian yorubas respect human life...i can feel safe living among yorubas than northerners.

As for the problem of south.. the southern Nigeria would av become extremely developed if this whole marriage with the north didnt start.. just imagine the ND oil mixed with the business mindset of the east and their manufacturing prowess mixed with the industrial and sea access of the west... the whole of south is blessed brain wise.. the whole of south is academically strong in various fields.. from engineering to ICT to medicals..

I am igbo but after reading this article, i can tell us all that the south is over blessed.. just that we dont av politicians who are smart. If our leaders are smart, they would av made northerners to keep begging south for ever.

I love u all my southern brothers and sisters. If i travel to south south, I feel at home, if I travel to west, i feel loved, pretty ladies, smiling citizens, friendly people, etc, if i go to my land of the east, i feel happy to see ma people, our pretty ladies, the surviving spirit and the funny people around..
Southern Nigeria lost it becus of lack of proper planning back in the 60s. We have everything to operate a true federal states in the south and trade and mingle peacefully.
Yorubas and igbos and ND can win this race.. in sport we the south are super talented, in business we the south are great, in academics, we the southern nigeria are super great, in fact, in everything, God blessed us. I urge all igbos here and southern Nigeria all together to understand that our common enemy is northern Nigeria. We can still win this race.. the northern nigeria has more to gain from us as southern Nigeria.

We can win this race first by loving ourselves in the south. I love all ma yoruba paddies and pretty yoruba babes wey get sweet voice.. God blessed yoruba babes with amazing voice that can pin any man smiley North is not the only market available.. we can still trade with foreign countries ..

This parasitic relationship between south and north must end soon.. the youths are getting wiser and educated.. we can do this... show love among your selves as southerners..I love u all..

The Igbo, unfortunately, are lacking in diplomacy. This is the weakness of the Igbo and that is what the Yoruba are capitalising on to manipulate their way of thinking. During the first declaration of Biafra, it was a public knowledge that when Gowon sent Awolowo to persuade Ojukwu not to embark on secession, they met on the River Niger bridge and discussed. Later on, the media said that according to unofficial report, Awolowo assured Ojukwu that if they seceded, the West would also secede. When he came out, he declared publicly that if by any act of commission or omission the East was allowed to go, the West would follow. This is the public announcement he made and the record is there, which means the West would also secede from the rest of Nigeria. The Igbo believed in him and Ojukwu told all the Igbo to go back to their respective areas. At that time, the Igbo were holding various positions in government, but they all left. When they came back after the civil war, they found that the Yoruba had occupied their positions, and till today, they have not regained such positions, and they will never regain them.

All these epistles. There are Igbos in other states and the truth is, the rest of the the Niger deltans are the ones who are afraid to live alone without the igbos they lived with.
You can imagine what would happen if all the Igbo communities in Rivers and delta joins Biafra.
What is left?
Anyway, you can continue to be Nigerians since the UN will make sure of it.
All these epistles. Carry your 5 states and the igbos in rivers and delta and fight your war. Who needs them? That's if they'll follow you after the last massacre in the first war. No one likes a loser.

Great point by you! The fact is that Yakassai is an old war horse. They pitch tribes one against the other and manipulate them from the center. See how he used words and falsification of history in attempt to further divide the South East, and the entire South all in the interest of his north. I am glad he has been exposed. The east can market their products in the Central Africa, the West can market theirs in To go, Ghana etc while the north can look to Chad, Niger, Libya etc. If Nigeria cannot restructure to accommodate the south, to hell with her.

From childhood, every Igboman knows a Yoruba man is a backstabber. Some of us ignored such eternal warning
and tried to see things for ourselves and got stabbed immediately too. From cross carpeting to if "Igbos go we will go", it's all
about Awolowo betrayal of trust. Obafemi Awolowo was the epitome of chameleon character (419 scammer pastor Adeboye of today) which has made his people so notorious across Africa as very untrustworthy people.
You igbos should stay your lane while we yoruba people stay on ours. What concern you with what adeboye does? Stop poking your nose into yoruba affairs.

though he made some salient point, but he would have giving us a good reason the north wants to make the presidency their birthright. He made a point at the end of his interview that the Ibos will never be in the good positions in civil service, and this is one reason the Ibos will keep agitating for Biafra. Bishop Chukwuma said something, that until an Ibo man becomes the president of Nigeria, an average Ibo man will never believe in the project called Nigeria. For me, to calm this agitation, their right as giving to others must be giving to them. I still buy one of his view, the Ibos lack the negotiating power. The Ibos must come together without fear and with one voice to get all what they desire.

Of course, there has always been disunity among the Easteners/Southeners.

Biara failed during Ojukwu and will always be dead on arrival. The movement is shrouded in uncertainty. Even the igbos themselves don't trust one another. Let alone the minority regions like Calabar and Akwa Ibom and Rivers. There is fear in some quarters that the Anambrans would want to hijack the Biaran entity, dominate and enslave others.
The supporters are the selfish minority who doesn't know the underlying motive for the movement.

Ojuwku was this close, but he was discovered to be a fraud by his own people. He lost. Uwazurike came on board and used it to bargain his selfish interest with the Nigerian govt, he is now history. Am not surprised with Kanu, he will toe the same path as his predecessors. While the not so smart followers will die for a cause that is not genuine.

Instead of exerting our energy fighting the common enemy - ethnic sentiments, bigotry tendencies, we are wasting it on a selfish course that is not tenable.

I support true federism, not sectional breakup. We are too divided to break up to make up. We can all make Nigeria the country we yearn for.

Long live Nigeria
Nigeria will separate whether you like it or not. You better prepare for the worse to come.

I always laugh say someone owns 60% of all industries
So the Yorubas, labanese,Indians ,Syrians,Egyptians,Irish,Americans ,swiss etc only contributes 40% abi .
Name those 90% factories and corps and let see if they will fit into ikeja industrial estate.

Fact

Yorubas do not need Nigeria ,oil or anybody to progress.
Nigeria in actual fact is holding us back .

It is also a known fact that it is the Igbos,Hausa and the pan Nigerian thieving elites who need the minorities and their resources .

I say let every people own and control their resources today . Repeal the land use act right now .

Re: "The Goals They Want To Achieve With New Biafra" - Tanko Yaksai by sidonlook: 1:35pm On Jun 04, 2017
Nigeria is a grate country and the western powers are very much aware of our potential to be a regional power, but our leaders have failed us.
Not just the IBO's but all leaders from all the geopolitical zone of the country.
Our leaders are failing us because they depend so much on the federal government and this led to weakness of the constituent regions .But in these regions are strong, great, and influential people that relate with the federal government bit never project their regions.
It is true the IBO's are very good in business. Why are they not good in politics? The answer is simple - SELFISHNESS.
They do well in their businesses because it is their own business.
When it comes to politics, they play it into their pockets and put their region at disadvantage .
Please think along with me as I ask these pertinent questions.
1. Do the governors of the IBO state ( supposed Biafra) relate with the federal government at the center ?
2. Do they attend council of state meeting ?
3. when they attend the meetings do they just sit, drink Aso rock tea, share excess crude oil money, collect allocation and go back home?
4. Do they have senators and house of rep members?
5. How well have they represented their region at the federal level or don't they know that politics has to do with sharing of scarce resources among different groups who jostle to get the most?
6.Do they not have pressure groups to lobby and influence decisions ?
The answer is SELFISHNESS.
The average IBO politician negotiates the region in to their pockets.
Even if Biafra is created, some of them will sell out Biafra to the remaining part that will be known as Nigeria.
Biafra is not the answer but selfless leadership .
Let is live together as one.
We need one another to be strong and each region deserves due portion of the national cake.
With the present leaders in that region, it will be very difficult to achieve Biafra.
I advice the people to drop the agitation and learn to play politics that profit the Ibo people in the federal arrangement.

Even if it is a case of divide and rule, it doesn't diminish his argument.
The igbo race has no friends in the south. We have been betrayed everywhere.
It would be record breaking stupidity if we hinge our future in other people's hands again. People with divergent aspirations from ours.
We can certainly work together with any region to get what we want and then bid them bye. But we should never make the mistake of putting all our eggs in one basket.
