This is from QS as you claimed but you did not include any link to the rankings, just someone's blog. sad. Times Higher education (THE) is what I know but one thing I don't understand with Nigerians is when people release rankings that wasn't just published recently without giving the date it was published and the methodologies. Knowing fully well they are released for every year with different indicators.

On the for instance, UI was 13th on the last ranking, so you could have just continued to first 20, to recognize the well-performing Nigerian institution there: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/student/best-universities/best-universities-africa.

Secondly, CU was profiled two months ago, making them eligible to be ranked in subsequent editions: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/covenant-university

Lastly, publishing a ranking that was released 2016 September seems kind of misleading (Well I don't know your motive or how informed you are), we are in June and September (when the next rankings will be released) is just about three months away
Or Thistrend and Statsocial, what do you think?

even our Almighty covenant university is not there.
A new school must first meet the minimum criteria to be included in THE database before they can be considered for ranking, which CU has only recently met, and was included in the THE database two months ago: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/covenant-university

Please i want to know how expensive are these universities, because Nigerian private universities are so expensive yet never made the list
How many new schools did you find in that list?? This is THE for crying out loud. You have to first be eligible to be ranked before you can even be ranked by them. Which as at now, only 3 Nigerian schools (https://www.timeshighereducation.com/student/where-to-study/study-in-nigeria) can be ranked by them, no matter the performance of all other schools, until they meet the minimum eligibility requirement for being included in THE database, they cant be considered for ranking.

No sir, I beg to differ from your sentiment. Even though CU was performing well for the period of time considered, they could not have been ranked since they were not yet in THE database. Biafra will bring the light to Africa ,Nigeria and its leaders from inception have failed woefully and not worthy of emulation to other African countries.
Let's join hands to usher in the Land of the Rising Sun

I'm not being pessimistic, but truth be told that the current rating of Nigerian universities can only get worse. Not until we stop playing politics with everything in Nigeria will we be able to parade world class universities.

In South Africa for instance, there are flagship universities (e.g. Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Pretoria ) which the nation parades when it comes to global ratings. However, not all their universities are better than our best universities. How many of us know that while the UK is a hotspot for university education and the nation parades many world class universities, there are still some universities over there which by global rating are lower than our first generation universities? What stops Nigeria from picking the five first generation universities for instance as our flagship and massively fund them so that our nation can also be an hotspot for university education in Africa? But if that would ever happen, it would be politicized with geo-political zoning by the 'owners of Nigeria' since the very best universities in Nigeria are all in the south save the Ahmadu Bello University.

Like someone opined above, i can only hope that Covenant University keeps up their current standard and pace so that one Nigerian university makes one of the best three in a distant future.
To tell you the frank truth unis from 1-100 in the UK are all ahead of Nigerian unis by any world ranking service. I challenge you to tell me which UK university is behind any Nigerian uni. This is expected because they are more rigorous in all their standards and even the worst UK university must meet those standards. Now what you propose is impossible because Nigeria is way too heavily populated. To fund a few schools at the expense of others would be grossly unfair to the average student who is already struggling to get admission in the first place. Secondly the most important factor is not marketing but quality of faculty, particularly measured by the quality of their research. Our lecturers are not contributing anything of note to academia so how can our universities which should be centers for research, be recognized?

don't mind the OP. I even thought it was a new ranking. I earnestly await the next edition of QS and Times. Clearly, CU would continue to do well on Webometrics so need to worry about that one anymore.

CU was only profiled this year, joining only UI and UNN. The preconditions for being ranked on Times is quite stringent hence CU could only be profiled for this year. So let's wait for this year's ranking. Mind you there are many south African universities that do not meet the minimum requirement for times.

There is actually no Nigerian university on QS, and this is not QS either..

Since the this is neither QS nor Times, I wonder where the OP could have gotten it from. Perhaps from another blog also.

If it is not Times, QS, AWRU, Webometrics, CWUR or Journal consortium then it should be disregarded.

Of course, yet I've said it time and again that people should mind what is posted on this forum. You don't just wake up one day and begin to adjudge universities' performance until you can give a detailed methodology of how you arrived at it, or a link to the ranking website you claim to have come up with it but no, they wouldn't. Since Nigerians accept everything without verification.

QS Rankings is not crap. It's the second most respected ranking of universities globally after the ARWU. THETimes education comes third. She pays more attention to humanities than sciences as the former two. That your school or any Nigerian school didn't make the top doesn't mean you should rubbish the rankings.
