Good question, I still believe Zenith should not get away with it, a sustained social media campaign for them to act is urgently needed; once it goes viral, maybe those corporate weasels will be forced to act..

God bless all those who contributed, the average Nigerian is his / her brothers keeper..
I don't mean to sound inconsiderate, but Zenith Bank owes him nothing, except on compassionate grounds. He isn't a staff of Zenith, he is a staff of NPF, assigned to Zenith to perform his core duty (to protect). He knew what he signed up for.

He isn't the first officer to die on duty either, bullion vans and banks have been attacked severally, with policemen and staff killed.

RIP to him and kudos to Nigerians.

But what makes him leave the post where he had enough cover for himself and adequate advantage to kill those thieves is what I still don't get.
. Ok my own opinion. Maybe he knows the number of bullet he has got in that gun and he doesn't want it to finish while shooting sporadically. So he had to leave to take another cover..

This is incredible !
I did a simple statistics of those who have donated sop far. It's amazing to see that Yorubas constituted up to 70 % of the donors, followed by the Niger-delta and the rest. Does it mean truly that the this is more compassionate in Nigeria? The family the money is going into is not even yoruba. Does it mean the Igbos are nonchalant? I wonder how they would run their country if eventually they get one.

most people condemning his decision 2 flee, have not experienced multiple gun battle before, or be in a midst were bullets is flying all round, you can imagine shots were fired sporadically still those guys were untouched, can imagine de courage de driver had 2 go grab what he was after without even minding if the bullet hit him, the place i tink he got it wrong was running backwards while front/outside gate was way closer, if he had ran out, there are several places 2 run 2. al the same, he was a brave man, he tried. kudos 2 him & other officers that died or got injured..

My Prayers for them & I salute the donors, they have tried..

It's called ignorance, and there is nothing funny about it. Save your sensitization for other threads, not here. This is a family who just lost their breadwinner, father and husband. Let's have some respect.

That's what am talking about. Yorubas and Hausa are accommodating. Stingynos won't care sh*t,

And they are saying they should come back home and leave the zoo.

Ah swear just one week in biafuro, and they will run back. They know better na.

Well the fund raising is being organized by Punch Newspaper and the whole process is crowd funded so everyone knows how much was raised and can finally confirm it gets to the window.

That's it. But wait o! Don't we have people who manage this kind of fund as their job; like Lawyers or financial experts? I know in Europe some people do endowment fund management. If this qualifies as such though. But again I ask is the man dead?
he is not dead. he is the one that pushed the thread to FP.

maybe he ran out of bullets

No.. He was still firing shots from the corner he ran into which made the guy shooting @ him to bend his head and retreat to the car..
If he had stayed there am pretty sure he would have done more damage to the robbers and perhaps survived.. Reflex actions can be very deceptive..

And again.. If you are a force man attached to a bank.. PLS AND PLS wear a bullet proof @ all times within the premises..

he did the best thing.he fired first and his shots shattered the car windscreen. The robber he shot was going to finish him off in the police post because they thought he was wounded. Once he got the robber down, if he had stayed longer in that post, the remaining robbers would have gone in and sprayed him. He used the surprise attack and took a 50/50 chance. That police post was too small,no hidding place.

I've been reading following this stoey all this while but this particular post of yours gave me an imagery of it all and that made me shed a tear...

They were 2 policemen, one was killed while the other lost an eye and needs money for brain surgery.

azimibraun:
What a cheering news. But I wish to ask a question; up until yesterday night. 11pm precisely there is still an argument going on about the true state of the police officer. Some say he is alive but lost an eye other say he is dead and gone. I am very confused about it. A picture of him was posted on hospital bed but no picture of his burial. What is truly going on? I want the official statement of the police made public. Some people want to contribute but they are not sure. That is according to what I have been seeing especially on NL.

How can one contribute to the fund? How do we ensure there is no interference by his relatives?

There is really no need for contributions as the police has very good medical department all the relations need do is forward the AIG medical all neccesary documents relating to the condition of this rank and file not wailing on either nairaland or other social media .
This culture of wailing is mere distractions

It's a tactical maneuver... Staying in that enclosed security post will make him a sitting duck that can be easily taken out. with sustained firepower. If he doesnt have enough bullets to counter the two or three guns trained on him, it will just be a matter of time. In summary, there is safety in movement

If you've ever been in a gunfight you would never say this.

Do you know what it means to be cornered in the line of gunfire? Bullets are not slow and do excessive damage.

Assuming he stayed in that gateman house he would have died at that spot
