For those that don't understand apart from crude oil, this is probably the second highest source of FX, then maybe TB Joshua third, I am not sure of the last one though.

This is what is still keeping this country afloat.

Foreign remittance sustaining several families because incomes have shrunk, salaries are delayed/ unpaid etc in Nigeria. Products of a failed government which can't create a sustainable environment for those within the country to easily generate their income.

Many families are totally floated based on foreign income.

As an example, once I met my wife, then fiancée, I made her stop working and placed her on a monthly stipend that came from the US instead.

Speak for yourself and family pls.

I know hundreds of Nigerians within my personal circle and I know for a fact that most of what was sent goes into family support, parents' healthcare, sibblings education, small/medium businesses, donations to friends and even strangers for some etc.

While you guys ridicule the criminals among us pls respect and appreciate the regular hardworking Nigerians abroad. Their contributions go a long way in alleviating the situation at home. It's been like that for ages and not restricted to Nigerians alone. Immigration is a normal part of life and there is no law that says you must be rooted to your home country or not.

Where are the money?
You get any family member living abroad? That's the easiest way to see the money. At least if he doesn't send you some, you will see what he uses the money to do for himself or someone else back home. That's how it works .

Before all these web/mobile platforms made it easy to pay directly into foreign bank accounts you need to see Nigerian diasporans at Western Union/MoneyGram locations to understand the love and commitment behind the remittances back home.

People had to make uncomfortable trips to distant locations just to assist people at home despite whatever they are also going through in foreign land where you cannot dobale when your bill payments are late, or when you get late to work etc.

Seeing our people waiting patiently on queues to send money home then make those phone calls to get the control number across knowing that some scammers are waiting to hijack the transfer was always a sobering experience and you can't help but appreciate the spirit behind it.

Regular average Nigerians abroad send money home on a regular basis, I doubt if regular average Nigerians in Nigeria can send money abroad on a regular basis. Besides, this is about what helps the economy not what is going out of the economy. Yes, this is a big deal.

It must be insignificant if it's not being reported.

It's delirious to think UK schools are collecting as much as diasporas are sending home.

Church rat or not, they are providing a practically non-existent social welfare system for the economy. The struggling Nigerian student or unemployed graduate who just received $200 from his uncle cares only about his personal needs and future not about Dangote's net worth.

I can bet with my ynash that 90% of this diaspora are from the southern Nigeria and also 60% are the yahoo boys and drug lords the police intimidate everyday on the street. the CBN and banks are flexing with this foreign remittance. while Nigerians can only get forex from aboki or the street to carry out import.
G boys do not send money home fru legitimate means so can't be on record.
