He talked truth now I read it yesterday on Wiki as well only that Yeebos were the slaves being sold by portuguese and yes, unlike Emirs in North and Obas in West , Yeebos never had a real leader , someone to guide and direct them, as such it's always hard for them to accept anything but chaos Awoofawo: |

Not all igbos where into slave trade, but many Igbo clans was involve in it at the time, ijaws was the middle men during the slave trade. The Igbos are the only groups that never been conquer by any foreign invaders in the history of Africa, other regions was subdued by Islam or white imperialism |

Dainfamous:they were a collection of clans not a single powerful kingdom, and since some of the clans traded with the whites, they automatically became natural allies. The rest were deep in the hinterland with little external contacts. |

Dainfamous:OK So the Igbos have history afterall , that perhaps explains their love for commerce. And I think I can explain the emergence of ancient Igbo text, was probably for the need to keep record and audit of accumulated wealth, and merchandise. |

Dainfamous:It's not like that, don't be misinformed! the reality is that igbo came lately in Africa around 1400AD in an area covered by Cameroon/Gabon/Equatorial guinea today, they didn't have center government like bini, oyo etc, they were living there scattered in the jungle that's where Portuguese met them in the mid 1500AD! you can imagine Igbo population at that time(in 1960 igbo is 6million, so 4 century back).Portuguese created biafra country to facilitate their slave trade and igbo served them slaves kidnapped from Benin kingdom, when slavery ended, no more business that's when igbo move to the area they were today(south east). When British entered interlard they met igbo , mobilized them and included them to the southern protectorate in1900! it is not because igbo is powerful, or igbo resist the the white no! igbo didn't had the kingdom to be conquered! |
