Donald3d:Not just hospitals, but even some primary health centres. Regarding clippers, I'm sure you know its improper to use those clipers at the barbers shop. Aside the HIV scare, its also basic hygiene. Get your own clippers which will be used by only you. |

shege45:Guy of you know how I dey laugh u here en you go vex for me. I dey sure sey u no get HIV. more than 80% of people that think the way you do don't even have the virus but one powerful thing I learnt about the human brain when I went through this same thing was that, the human brain is so powerful that it can mimic what you actually think and make you believe it is really happening to you whereas it is only your brain playing trick with your imagination. You've not mentioned any symptom of the disease. Even the 1week you mentioned is too short for HIV to manifest in the human body. It takes at the least 3weeks after infection for It to show it's first symptoms. It is better you get tested early so you can face the treatment of your typhoid squarely. You're probably a typhoid patient like I used to be. |

chinedum13:its this mentality that kills, not HIV. People are hear encouraging him to eat healthy, exercise and never again have unprotected sex, you are there talking like a ...... ![]() Brother man, dont mind this one. Go to church to praise instead of seeking to heal the virus. The only healing you need is acknowledging the virus, which from your post I see you have done. Infact......stay away from church, this guy has spoiled it Quote me back now and see me slap you ![]() |

Rajahbite:I totally understand you bro. I studied applied microbiology and had the opportunity of doing my 4 months Industrial Training attachement at a Federal Medical Centre. Was rotated around the various units in the Med Lab Dept. Serology unit handled RVS tests and we had them in droves everyday. One day one man came in for tests. Extremely thin, pale and sickly. You'd think he had acute Hepatitis B infection and wasn't gonna last the next week. I was to draw his blood for Retroviral screening. Long story short, I pricked myself when I attempted to cap the needle after drawing his blood. I can still feel the hot flush, the shock, the sting, the rush of blood from my head anytime I recall that moment. Four other staff were in the room with me, but I didn't let them know what had happened. I squeezed out as much blood as I could from the finger and swabbed with Jik bleach. Couldn't continue working that day. Made up an excuse and left later on. Got home and couldn't think of anything else. I was devastated to say the least. Did I also add that the patient's result came out positive? Everyone already knew that was going to be the outcome. I lost appetite and withdrew completely. Stopped talking to my siblings and parents. My mom noticed this and had to sit me down two days later to query my sudden change of attitude. I just laid it out bare to her. She expressed shock, asked why I had kept quiet all the while and said we were going to another FMC that specialised in HIV management immediately. We went there the next day where they did my screening (came out negative) and put me on Post-exposure prophylaxis regimen for 30 days. To this day, nobody, not even my late dad, siblings, nobody except my mom is aware of this incident. Now the reason I'm spilling all these here, is to let you know that miracles happen. This incident occurred Sept 10, 2004. Yup. 13 years ago. I'm currently married with a pretty wife and daughter, and another baby about to land very soon. I have been negative ever since. My family members are all negative and the babies were all conceived naturally without any special arrangement. Just God's Divine Grace. I must confess that i was MEGA apprehensive when we went for screening prior to our wedding. Was sweating bullets when the nurses called us in to hand us our results. Of course it was negative. My life has been a miracle bro. I once in a while go on Facebook to just type those words "My being alive today is still a miracle" and people do not understand what I mean. I was a virgin when that needlestick occurred, so I believe you when you say you did not get infected sexually. I don't have much words to give you bro. You know better. All I can say is take your medications religiously, stay positive! You definitely have a testimony to share. |

NnamdiN:Your kit won't pick up a recent infection until 6 weeks since it's rapid test (anti-body). It is important to let people know so they don't go about deceiving themselves and spreading the virus. |

shege45:Suicide is for fools and cowards and I know you are neither of the two. The best thing you can do for yourself now is to go and get tested ASAP. I'll help and support you in any way I can. Please get tested as soon as day breaks tomorrow, Monday. I pray that God gives you the strength to go through. Get tested, you never can tell... you might not even have HIV. |

I once believed I had an exposure, and I got really scared that I might have contacted the virus as I had a serious throat infection around that time. I became highly depressed that I fell sick. Spent so much time researching about it. Tested at 2 weeks - duo baseline test, 4 weeks - rapid point of care test , 7 weeks - Duo and finally at 3 months - duo. All came back negative. The doctor said the 7 weeks and 3 months weren't necessary though. I learnt from my research that it's actually a very difficult virus to catch and very selective in the way it spreads through sexual contact. Women are more vulnerable to the disease due to topping. Even condoms are not 100% efficient; condom do break or slip. With oral there might be a sore somewhere. There are even forums dedicated to hiv positive people like body and poz. Negative people also go there to ask questions. shege45:Best to get tested. I dont think the OP needs to tell any reason how he got infected. It's common knowledge. AHCB:True. Mckayla:It could be transmitted via clippers(shaping of hairline) but not common as the virus can't survive outside a host. |

Donald3d:Most of them do it free;and its supposed to be;especially in hospitals with already established HIV clinic that people pick up their drugs..In the absence of that it shouldnt cost that much if you go to d lab.And there are many self-testing kits available;like the Determir strip;which should be bw 100-200 naira I think. |

NwaAmaikpe:Yes and I'll mix it with methylated spirit and Izal. I always look forward to your comments in NL threads. Nigeria needs more peops like you, otherwise life would be too boring and the lagoon divers and Sniper addicts would have a field day. Keep up your sense of humour. |

Rendition:Reason why I went for the tests so frequently is that there's an ECEWS center opposite where I reside and we usually go there to play games like snooker, Scrabble, monopoly, Play Station, etc for free |
