Many useless and incompetent doctors and CMD in town. That's how two useless resident doctors and a surgeon were saying acute appendicitis and kidney infection for my wife without any test or scan. Make doctor mumu sotey u see a married lady & u no fit ask when last did you menstruate. They had started calling the surgeon for an operation I just told d guy he must be out of his minds to postulate without any laboratory test and we left 11pm. Next morning we went for Scan only to be told its pregnancy naso the useless hospital for damage a foetus & trust dem dey won't say jack.

I felt bad after reading this. And this hospital though.. I've been here, they charge so high and yet they don't have these facilities? Smh

This story is incomplete in my opinion, it takes more than this to prove medical negligence. Firstly, what was the patient being treated for?! What treatment was given, and was it the right treatment? To prove negligence, the key criteria that MUST be met are;
Is there a duty of care?
Has the duty of care been breached?
Has the patient come to harm?
Sadly, the fact that this patient has died isn't enough to prove negligence in any court worldwide. We need the whole story, but we are just being provided with the story from the mouth of a grieving mother. In developed countries, a death like this automatically triggers a coroner's investigation on the cause of death. In Nigeria, we don't know the cause of death, so we blame the medical staff.

I feel if he had died of whatever illness he had, it would have been easier for the mother to get closure. But knowing it happened due to negligence is a whole new ball game. My opinion.

Seriously? They wouldn't have a case. At the very least, they failed to communicate the patient's condition and the treatment plan they were undertaking to his next of kin. The mom would have had some closure if a sympathetic member of staff was even trying to answer her questions or address her concerns.

Madam, in as much as I condemn the hospital management's inefficiency, I make bold to say that you are a very selfish and careless mother!

The hospital's inefficiency was brought to bear the very moment you entered into it yet you foolishly persevered and remained glued in it for almost three days.

I know people who've have had appendix operations while pregnant. Meanwhile, urinary tract infections is quite common in pregnancy.
If your wife used antibiotics during same period, it would probably have cleared up the kidney infection, and even the appendicitis ( It can flare up again in future ).

Not without a test to confirm speculation that needs surgery. I did little clinical even though I never practised doesn't mean I accept a pronouncement like that. No medical doctor in his right senses will perform surgical procedure on a patient without waiting for test results to be double sure.

I think it costs like 30k ( It could be more)., it's only a few centres that have CT scan machines. Even in Lagos, I doubt they're up to 10 centers that do such. They usually have to book appointments to do it, a lot of times can't be done urgently.
Tests usually done in patients with appendix is blood tests, urine tests, pregnancy test should be routine in females,.
Ultrasound scan is useless in a woman with appendicitis, because you'll just-have probe tenderness, which can also be present in an ectopic and other conditions.

This is a onesided narration of what transpired between the whole staff of the hospital and this woman. So, is she telling me that about/ close to 15 staff of this hospital including the nurses and doctors who were working throughout the time her son was admitted were all incompetent.
She is lying or she ain't saying all. There is something she ain't saying.

Rip Tobi. I can't entirely exonerate the mother too from the blame; she failed to act immediately she noticed some of the flaws about the hospital. I'm sorry but I think I need to ask this question- where was Tobi's father while all these were going on? Some situations are better handled by Men.

The right setup will involve the use of what is called a VOM (ventilator oxygen machine ) which monitors a patients breathing and vitals to dispense the right mix of oxygen and air into the patients Lungs at the right pressure for every given instance ..That set up in the hospital above was just a cylinder to a valve straight into tiny hoses and maybe into a mask ..That set up can never save a life and I think the hospitals just set them up to decieve gullible people that they ate doing something ...see below a proper oxygen ventilator

A ventilator you outlined above is for patients whose lungs or respiratory system has shut down either pathologically or as a part of general anesthesia for surgery. It can only be used by anesthetists and not just any doctor

Using a gas cylinder and a face mask is standard procedure everywhere for a patient who is breathing but is unable to get enough oxygen.



In case you don't know, modern ventilators and monitor will cost about 8 million for a single set, but you people will still refuse to pay even 1naira for hospital admission

It is a pity that you gambled with the young boy's life, I am more saddened by your action than the negligence of the hospital.You had a choice to find a better alternative,instead your were busy taking pictures of the dying boy and the hospital equipment.Which justice do you seek,and from whom do you expect the justice to come from. As parents,we should realize when we are at fault, you owe the boy a serious apology even in His death. You did not do anything to save the life of that young man, leave the hospital and the doctors alone, even the government owed hospitals are in shambles,otherwise, your president wouldnt have been out of this country recieving treatment
