Interesting trip, Ikenna.

I think every misfortune is a blessing in disguise. Your broken rear muffler has given you an ideal opportunity to purchase a stainless CAT-back system. No chance of it rusting, it'll actually outlive the rest of any car.

Worth considering. smiley

From Abuja to Enugu, I couldn't count increased number if check points, because they were so many. I was asked to park aside, just like other vehicles, on some of the check points. But guess what? When I am parked, the questions I got from there were, "Anything for the boys from Aso rock?; Any message for us?; etc". And was joyfully "given out the messages to them. Not even once was i asked to produce vehicle papers or drivers licence, like they were asking from other cars/brands. Trust me, it feels good when you are treated special among others. Because, each time I park, I would see other drivers from other car brands, arguing, turning pages of documents, pointing at page this and page that. Some were even asked to offload their luggage for search. But in my case, I was respected and honoured instead. Lol! There are things you can't take away from Lions. RESPECT!

Like I always say, what you have become or situation/condition you find yourself today, is as a result of actions, inactions, decisions, indecisions, choices and thoughts we made or did in the past. My Lions always make me proud or journeys!

Yes, because I made it a habit to drive long distance on empty stomach. So Shoprite is usually my stop to take of the stomach each time I travel to East.

When you are hungry, sleep won't near you on the wheel. Also, thanks to A/C, when you feel cold, your eyes will be clear enough.

So, empty stomach and A/C on long distance drive are my thing.

I’ve been enjoying following your trend, pele about your exhaust…I feel you, considering we call ourselves giants of Africa, Nigerian roads are some of the worst in West African, both in terms of infrastructure and driver mentality.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but even if Aso Rock still uses 406 as an official vehicle, definitely not the V6… shouldn’t our Police know that.

Thanks for the links to the troubleshooting web sites. With someone like Siena on this trend, I dare not claim to be too technical, I did start an apprenticeship as a road side mechanic in Lagos (#12 Oba Akran Ikeja) but never made it as far as getting my freedom.
After owning a few 505s of the years, (of which 2 got stolen in London huh) I do do some limited DIY on them. Attached are pictures of some of the 505 I once owned.

I have no intention of changing this my V6 Auto to manual, Auto gives a more cruising feeling with such an old car, but whenever I do the road trip again, it would have to be in a manual. I believe manual transmission is better suited for such kind of trips.

Upgrading my sound system is a project planned for next year. I’ll post the pics once I get started.

@ OmoAkerele,

Wow! Lovely pictures! I can see you are more 505 freak than I am. Lol!

That 505 SW with ZDJL engine was the last 505 sold in USA & Canada in 1992. Though, it was rolled out in 1989, I think.

I still have plans to add another 505 S2 someday, with XN1A engine, including 504 GL (if I can get a rust-free one).

Ikenna351:
I drove straight to Shoprite, in Enugu town.

The tripmeter showed that Abuja to Enugu is 540 kilometers (336 miles).

Then, the fuel guage showed that the car consumed only 40 litres from Lokoja to Enugu. Meaning, the car consumed only 70 litres from Abuja to Enugu for 540 km. Not bad! Considering, the windows were up (A/C on) all through the journey. After i drove out of Shoprite, i refilled the tank and it took only 40.05 litres, meaning, the fuel gauge was correct. I didnt know the guage has been that accurate.

I calculated the consumption from Abuja ro Enugu and got 12.9L/100km or 21.8 mpg. I was impressed. Considering the amount of speed i did on that highway, i couldnt believe i could still get that consumption, even better than the factory mpg on highway for that car.

Ikenna.
usually the car saves more fuel on highway than city terrain

Yes, it does.

2 weekends ago, I did a trip with the same Lion, Peugeot 505 V6, and it consumed about 15 - 18 litres for 220 km, for a 1986 production. I so much love the Lion. Very aggressive and fun to drive in highway.

Anything is possible. All you have to do is focus on the car like I did and it will manifest. Don't worry about how.

The good thing is the car is still in good shape. I thought about swapping in V8 engine in him last year, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I love and appreciate him as he is. The lion reminds me a lot of things about me. Maybe someday, he will go, for another person to have fun with him. Will see.

I have done a lot of trips since after I shared this one, including with this very 505 V6. Except I hardly document the trips anymore with pictures. Though I captured few as videos, which is easier for me than taking pictures.

These days, I choose to enjoy and have fun with my lions more on trips than stopping to take pictures to share to others. Will see how it goes.
