In my area, most people prefer putting off all light in their compound @ night. Is it more secure?

Its an ignorant act. The exterior lights in your house are meant to be left on at night for security, only in Naija have I seen the opposite.

surroundings should be adequately illuminated for security and lights should be avoided internally for safety but at least a torch should be easily accessible should there be a need.
