What I know about is that it is highly stressful. At the same time, if it is not your own car, you may not be able to meet up the target from the owner of the car. But if the target is not much, i.e the amount to return to the owner weekly or monthly is not much you would enjoy it.

Pls talk to FCT uber drivers, get the facts bout feasible incomes...If it gives u 70k a month...Move to FCT. While driving @ FCT, try to find a day job to augment. As someone suggested, join taxify too..

There's actually no straightforward answer to your query here. A number of variables need to be considered to arrive at the best the best response.

First, you did not state the kind car you have as certain cars are extremely good for uber business. Given that this is an online platform, it will be difficult for you to answer the following questions;
1. Are you the one currently paying for your family accommodation in Abuja?
2.Does your wife work?
3.What percentage of your current salary do you save monthly?
4. What kind of car do you have? This is important for fuel consumption, cost of maintenance etc. If your vehicle's engine displacement is any of the 1.6 - 2.0 then, you are more likely to make more money.

Personally, I would not advise you to give out your car to another driver; you will almost always regret it as you lack experience of how uber works. Except perhaps, you are giving the car on a higher purchase then it's a different kettle of fish. Rentage may have been okay but inexperience will be explored by an unscrupulous driver who may use the car rough within a short time.

The uber price in Lagos has been watered down & does not favour drivers anymore except you complement with Taxify. Abuja on the other hand, is a little better. Driving on uber in Abuja by yourself will guarantee you some consistent income which is dependent on the kind of car you use because of fuel and maintenance as I earlier said. It's not as though you won't make money with bigger engine displacement, of say 2.4 etc but by the time you remove overhead, your take home is drastically reduced. Realistically, you will get your current salary in about 2 weeks of driving with a little more time to play with plus getting to be with your family which is much more important than even the money you may not make working with your current employer.

Having said the above, the bitter kola is not as sweet as it sounds in the mouth. To make the money, you must work hard. Concerning insults associated with driving on uber, that should not discourage you as every profession has its perculiar challenge. For as long as you keep your eyes on the ball, you will always see reasons to smile. Before you set off each day to drive, keep your ego & pride at home knowing that your goal is to make money. Of course, as much as some riders will insult you, so many others will appreciate you & encourage you.

If your decision favours driving on uber, there are drivers' and partners' group that can always guide you.

Finally, since the car belongs to you, there's no loss on the uber platform if you consider it a full time business.

Good luck with your choice.
See better advice. Chop knuckle my brother.

Am married with kids, my family is in Abuja while am currently employed with a private company in Lagos, the job is an unsecured one, could be fired anyday anytime. The salary is less than #100k without accommodation, have been managing with a family. Am six months on the job and don't see chances of settling down here due to the poor pay and high house rent.

I have a car I can use on the uber platform in Abuja, will stay in my house and see my family on a daily basis (this is my desire). Pls is it wise to quit the Job. I seek your humble opinion. Thank you
go for the Uber. and never hand your car over to anyone to drive for you, they would wreck it and you will keep paying for repair, they'll keep stealing ur money. manage your biz by yourself

Re: I Want To Quit My Job For Uber Abuja Partner-Driver Business, Advise Needed by jjmk(m): 11:52am On Jul 06, 2017
My advice is this.

1. Quit that job. I repeat quit that job.

2. Go use your car for the uber service. But before that ensure your car meets their standards and u yourself meets all the criteria.

3. Ensure you know the revenue generated on the average in Abuja. Lagos is very lucrative, I dont know about Abuja.

4. Except u live in your own house in Abuja, I would have adviced u to bring your car down to Lagos and register it for the uber service here, then get your family to join u here.

5. Dont, I repeat dont give your car to a driver...U are a starting out, dont entrust your car to another driver. Only exception is if you are not fully qualified to drive.

6. So to recap, get to know what an uber partner generates in a month on the average in Abuja, then if it is worth it resign and go for it. Secondly, ensure your car meets their requirements before resigning. Thirdly, if u are very good at driving, then dont give out your car to someone else to drive for u especially now that u are just starting out.

7. Goodluck.

Just do a lil bit of reconnaissance just to find out Aw much ull gain in a mnth.dnt forget to subtract the average cost of fuel nd add 20% to it,average cost of maintenance nd a lil bit of change for miscellaneous(who knows when a drunk driver will break Ur side mirror).

I won't advice u to hire somebody to drive for u as most people won't be careful when driving Ur car nd dey won't care,'if na u dey drive Ur tin na u go sabi manage am well'.

If possible ask for 3 days - 1 week leave frm Ur current place of work ,hop on uber nd see wier dat leaves u...

ONCE U GET HOME,TEAR A SHEET OF PAPER AND WRITE OUT THE PROS AND CONS OF WHAT U WANT TO GET INTO.MAKE SURE U PUT UR FAMILY FIRST WHEN CONSIDERING UR options AS doing otherwise will only defeat Ur initial purpose'FAMILY TIME' .

Resign that "paid" job thats holding you back and take ur destiny into your hands...

Do it yourself and in Lagos(don't have knowledge of abj)

You will never regret quoting that jab!

Good luck!

It's advisable that you try this first, either during your 2 weeks leave or in the evening after work. Weekends if you don't work on weekends. As you know, many people are looking for job so be careful.

I will say... Make necessary arrangements in preparation for your leave period. Use your leave period to start the uber stuff to see how gainful and certain it is. Then if you re convince that the uber is better. Then, the ball is in your court to choose between the two. Do not leave a job without knowing where your heading to.

Then pray to God about it
The wisest advice. Good one bro!

Op, just take this advice. Your situation isn't a complex one. Do not wait until you are layed off. You have to be bold and decisive. Uber or no Uber, that car is a good source of livelihood, especially with the huge plus of being there for your family always. It may not be rosy through its course but you are to continually tap strength from your near boundless freedom, which allows you sizeable spare times to try out new ventures and partnerships in the future.

Fine, you are contemplating quitting your 100k job for a self employed job (uber) due to the following reasons : your distance from your family and your living expenses. You have to know that inboth decision there are advantages and disadvantages considering the fact that you have to meet up your family demands. I will advise you compare the merits and demerits of both, seek God and discuss it with your wife.

why not do some sort of high level business case/financial modelling first. what is the projected daily income you will take in from Uber in Abuja? Assume 6 days by 4 weeks for 24 days in a month as i like to believe you dont intend to work 7 days a week. now remove car expenses ( maintenance and fuel) and then your basic living expenses as a family man. what do you have left as savings. does it support you leaving your current job? if yes, then go for it with God's grace.
