XX01, my first nanny ate whatever I bought for my daughter (baby and I would eat rice I cooked the night before and she would boil fresh rice for herself and chop up veggies I bought for puree and say her mum always gave her fresh rice daily undecided). My daughter once came in munching on a piece of granites he picked up from the floor outside the compound and this lady was carrying her when it happened (she said she didn't notice). Nannies are tricky and you have to spend well to get decent ones (agencies exist). Personally, have CCTV and just leave the rest to God.

Or splurge for Filipino nannies. Because those women are really good at their jobs. I don't know why their Nigerian counterparts can't match up. They always seem angry to be taking care of your kids.

Exactly have heard of a story wher the grandma gave infant grand child snipper thinking it's cough syrup becus it was in medicine bottle. Only God watch our lo perfectlyquote author=AlphaHandMaiden post=58190054]

The truth is there is no right or wrong answer....

just do what is you guys think is best for your family, and that is purely between you and your husband. Any decision can be modified or changed as you go along.

If you work, you are negligent and do not love your child, if you dont work, you have wasted all your school fees money! Abeg make everybody go hug transformer!

That child could have easily swallowed rat poison at home if it is was not kept in a safe place that is out of reach.

It is easy for us to tear pant and rake at other people, but let us first look around us as see if we have assessed and removed as many risks as possible from around our homes.

Even something as sensible as using a carseat some parents even though it is not an affordability issue will leave a child un -strapped in a moving car. If you get hit, that child can fly out like a rag doll out of the window. The excuse.... he/she doesnt like to be strapped. And then they will start looking for one step, mother's brother's in-law's goat's sister's cousin to blame if anything happens.

Me, i drank bleach as a baby, in my grand parents house and ALL the people in the house that day were relatives, both close direct and indirect. The story was that i had asked for water and they said they were coming. And i must have gotten tired of waiting for them and opened the nearest bottle containing what looked like water and drank it.

So whether family member, non family member, it dont make the carer more attentive.

From that day, they reviewed how such chemicals were bottled and where they were put in the house, but it could very well have been too little too late.

There are children that have hung themselves from the cord of window blinds or even laptop or phone chargers in their homes, and some with their parents in the house with them.

There are children that have ingested laundary tablets or gel tabs to disasterous effects, rat posion, bleach, turpentine, battery (especially the disc shaped ones for like for wrist watches) or even overdosed on medicines that were lying around or within reach.

There are children that have electrocuted themselves at power sockets.

Children have burnt themselves by various means.

Abeg the list is endless and quite depressing.

It just goes to show that monitoring as best as possible is what is needed. Remove the harzards you can, keep re-assessing and adapting as your child grows. Assess the level of risk awareness those around you and your child have, and try as much as possible that you are on the same page.

Ultimately The Grace of God is what saves everyone. But we shouldnt because of that be reckless in attitude.

I posted this a while ago, worked for me and veejay who did it recently too. You might want to give a try.

"On the doctor's recommendations for cradle cap (noticed my son's scalp was dry and flaky and his front hairline was receeding...so we went to see his doc).
Put olive oil on the scalp and leave on for 15mins
Use a fine tooth comb to gently massage the scalp and also comb up the flakes
Then wash hair with selsun blue shampoo (active ingredient is selenium...dunno if that is what sebamed has too) and slightly towel dry
Apply hair oil and comb.

This should be done once a week for 2 weeks...I.e twice.
Healed my boys scalp instantly... Now we are patiently waiting for his bald spots to grow back"

Alternatively what i did as per doc advice was baby oil, Brush hair to lift the dry bits from dcalp and wash off immediately. Did twice a day. Problem Stopped after 3 days. Subsequently, I still apply very little baby oil in mornings and brush her hair and wash off at night, just to keep it shiny and smooth.

Wks my lo had dis strong cough n catarrh gave him antibiotics, vit c d cough got stronger one night n he vomited sometins dat looks like mucus and was breathing very fast ftm like me was very scared mil and family doc was not around the following morning I rushed him to general hospital gbagada. Na so one amateur doc asked me to run a test and xray on my lo ignorant mom like me rushed to do d test n xray came back to d hospital n d mumu second doctor cudnt read d xray without knowing xray results he refer us to luth that dey will give lo oxygen imagine just like dat. Lucky for me my family doc return my calls and was very mad at me for doing xray dat my baby is too tender for it immediately I went home n my doc was already waiting he read d xray n say lo is perfect dat it was bronchiatis whatever immediately asked me to boil water he gave my baby warm bath, massage with hot water and steam bath asked me to back him immediately n he fall asleep asked me to do it for 3days n lo n behold his breathing went back to normal and asked me to continue with vit c my baby is very fine now except for D cough which is just lil.
I think Zinnat is also an antibiotic, they prescribe it when your baby's breathing sounds weird. The cough might just have been a symptom that came with the bronchitis and since you said it's just little, you should just manage it let it go on it's own. Neofylin was prescribed for our own cough but I'm scared to use it, biko who has used it before on a three month old.

Me I have a 12 year old living with me cuz me I'm still small and I don't have energy for big women and their big wahala. No be only child labour, because I use to send her to the farm to go and harvest cassava.

The proof is here. I visited a relative last year. I was shocked to see her using a 16 year old as a nanny. The poor child could barely do her studies because of a crying baby. I would not allow the girl to do anything for me, because I don't believe in such wickedness. Nigeria needs to stop this slavery.

Zaynie,
i don laugh tire at your dream. Which kind hustle you been dey hustle that all the forces around you both living and in the beyond had to "conk" sense into you.

Well everyone recieves messages differently, some havr gut feelings, for some people that are more in-tune with the spiritual/ auras, dreams and feelings will work, some other people will not recieve the same message if there is no fire on the mountian, and some it will take near misses of catastrophic proportions for their focus to be forced back into perspective.

But all in all, we should all learn that a hustle is just a hustle, all the money we are chasing, we will die tomorrow and no one will even know where we have hoarded the money, that is supossedly for our children. UBA will just sit on your money and using it to generate interest and balance their books.

there are things that money can never buy. Our children, our responsibilities, let us stop shifting ALL that responsibility to teachers, carers, nannies, grannies or whoever. Assume nothing, and keep questioning and reviewing the people that have "some"responsibility over our children.

When my kids didn't see me for 3 days straight, they would be asleep by the time I got home and when I was leaving the house in the morning.
My son said "my mommy, you have not been sleeping in the house". I said who has been making your breakfast and school lunch, he just shrugged.
The days I closed early was spent in the market or at the park waybilling stuff. Weekends were spent in the market or on my phone making sales.
After the dream, I kukuma let sense "fall" on me straight lipsrsealed

Thanks Cicasmustexcel and Benignsweety. I appreciate. I'm thinking seriously along that line. But i needed to hear more advise from more mama's

XXO1. I thank God for ur baby's health. It's only God that will protect them. I have witnessed a case while my niece was on admission. This working class mum didn't know her baby has been having purging for long. Her nanny abi maid didnt tell her. They were twins so one of them. The woman didn't take note until the case went critical. She had to leave that job that was so precious to her. The baby died there. We were so shattered. Another incident happened where a nanny out of anger wanted to throw the baby on the bed but baby hit his head on the bed wood and died. The girl escaped to her village but was traced and caught.

When I hear incidents like this, I'm always afraid. I took care of my sister's kids like my own and she was comfortable. Now I have mine, the fear is just there bringing anyone. Even a cousin's daughter that came temporary, just 9 years, I'm afraid to even leave baby for 3 mins. Always having bad imagination. The second fear I have is that one of DH Anty that is staying with MIL, I don't ever feel comfortable allowing her carry lo. She is always doing dirty dirty, if she is not.smelling lcedfish, she I smelling dirty water from soaked clothes that have stayed days. Since two years plus I married DH, she is always sneezing and picking her nose. I don't know how to avoid her from carrying baby. Every time she comes, she.will be dragging baby. She also demonstrate feeding baby with her breast and baby's mouth will be on her clothe. Every time she wants baby, if i want to give any excuse, DH will be he first to tell me to release the baby to them. I hope this lady's illness is not contagious, especially this Every time sneezing.

I pray for our Lo's today, that God Almighty will rest his hands of protection on them. I'm really thinking how I will cope with this resumption. God help me

Just some tips...Its winter, so rain rain rain...No matter how little it drops, the whole place will be damp and chilly...So please let's help our los who are more vulnerable to cold related issues.
My aunt who has a phd in omuogoin(lol) advised that i should always use hot water when bathing baby esp on their head and when dressing up use mentholator and Palm kernel oil mixed together then apply on the baby's fontanelle before wearing the cap it will prevent the baby from cold and catarh. I testify to this because, my sis baby never had cartarh till she started walking..
And also, the floor/tiles is always cold so babies should be seated mostly on rugs to prevent cold as well.

@yesitsme thanks for the tip..

Fortuneteller or whatever you call yourself, may you inherit all you have typed. In all my post, you did not read me mention a 'maid', I never refer to her as such and never treated her same. I see her as someone created by God and should be taken as a child.

You never have any proof to begin to tag my posts and call names, you will surely inherit your evil tags.

If you are a mother and have kids, this child is a million times better than your kids, by the grace of God, I am proud that even the police applauded me, the parent and all relations begged and begged for me to take her back. But, will never do!

I am a child of God, and I will use the power within me to help whoever I can and never look down. We are who we are by God's grace!

If I had taken her as a maid, I wouldn't have been worried and crying about her wellbeing and safety. I would have just believed she has returned back to her people. And you come here to judge without knowing details? Even if she stole, I never mentioned to the police she did, all I wanted was her safety wherever she is, she was the one who mentioned to them she stole this and that during interrogation.

She is still my child, but won't live with me anymore, whatever assistance I have to. Render I do that from afar.

I think we should be careful of relatives. Hmmm, her aunt wanted to kidnap her to get money from us. But God be praised that the plans failed.

I have learnt my lessons in a hard way in the past few days. I praise God that nothing happened to her and she has returned back in good health.

If you use child labor because you are too poor or lazy to care for your own children, you are a devil. I don't live in Nigeria and no one here is using child labor. It's against the law. You should be ashamed of yourselves for promoting slavery. I have a friend who was a victim of this during her childhood. People wonder why Nigeria can't prosper. It's the wickedness that abounds.

No need to be explaining to a person who obviously lives in a fool's paradise. You don't know her story, Maybe she was maltreated by a relative as a child and that's all she'd ever understand.

Back to your story, their parents are constantly trying to use them to extort money, good you handed her back to them.
