Let me add to your definition of marriage:

Marriage is a covenant approved by God for people who cannot keep their genitals to themselves and must merge their ugly genitals with that of another and exchange filthy body fluids/secretions in the process in order to remain sane.

Forget the 'matured' part of your sentence because if most married people were so 'matured', they won't be cheating on their spouses with reckless abandonment and exposing them to all manners of sexually transmitted diseases amongst other things. In today's world, married folks do worse things than singles including bringing innocent children into the world that they cannot adequately provide for.
