You're actually wrong on this.

Wikipedia is not admissible as academic reference in any reputable institution. In UK universities, it's one of the first things you're informed of during orientation/induction.

This is because Wiki is an editable source, and I'm sure you've come across articles on the site stating citations are needed for some statements. As such while it's okay for base level reference, it's not a reliable or admissible form of academic reference.

This is not disputing your counter claims on Murtala Muhammed.

kstix:

lol. Dont make me laugh pls. When u scroll down wikipedia page, do u find references or not. They dont just write from a source , they gather various sources together both pro and cons about the subject matter. Alot of people use the references on wikipedia for educational work. I used it for my project work in my final year at obafemi awolowo university. So dont get all ignorant here saying wikipedia isnt credible. Go and look it up again and come back to tender ur arguments

It is shocking that some Nigerians are hailing Murtala that he fought in the civil war even though he commited war crimes and on top of that, failed woefully as a Military Officer in a war situation due to his bad leadership qualities.

It is shocking that a man who killed so many people in cold blood is seen as a model citizen worth emulating and honouring on on the N20

It is shocking that a man who shot his way to power through coup plotting and went on to abuse power in many despicable ways is the same person people think is a patriot

It is shocking but not surprising. Nigerians have a long history of honouring any criminal who manages to acquire money or power or both.
I agree..
Dude it is a sad state of affairs with nigeria.. as a people we give titles to criminal politicians instead of jail sentences. GeJ was failure in many regards yet some Nigerians celebrate him.. buhari an even bigger mess and bigot creating division in nigeria and he is a hero to many.. nigeria had a long road to go beforeany positive change in mindset happens..

I keep wondering why at every post that relates to the Northerners written probably by someone from the SE, a yoruba person or people are usually the ones who defend them tooth and nail even if it is detrimental to their well being. I notice these things in all post. I think I need to do more research on this behavioural tendency. Whenever a story is written about the north, u see northerners defend them selves but have more yorubas defending. More. I see this very well on nairaland and facebook. I wonder why that's so. Just them. They never see anything wrong with the hausas

It's a master-slave relationship. The slave must always defend the master no matter what.

In addition to the above, Murtala Mohammed supervised the execution of 300 worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church, Onitsha

That is also true. The worshippers were dragged out one by one and gunned down. Only one woman who lay under the dead bodies with gun shot wounds but managed to crawl away later and escaped to find help lived to tell the tale. I didn't mention this episode because it falls under the war crimes of Murtala which I already mentioned an example of in Asaba. This is the same man celebrated on the N20 note.

He was quick to quote his university for me and called me ignorant trying to advise him on this same thing, i only had to show him how easy it was to edit any write up. sadly enough this is gradually becoming the norm in our school system nowadays. Have marked academic works recently and it's just very appalling to say the least.

I resurrected my old thread because another crime of the mass murderer called Murtala Mohemmed has come to my attention.

In a recent interview, General Akinrinade rtd revealed that Murtala Mohammed, as GOC of the second division, ordered the summary execution of all Biafran prisoners of war his division captured, which is a war crime according to the Geneva convention. Lt Isola also testified that Murtala Mohammed did order summmary executions.

Nobody will ever know how many people Murtala Mohammed killed but he will always be a disgrace to all decent people for being a mass muderer and psychopatic killer

I remember sometime in the 90's when my cousin came back from the UK and 'dashed' me £15 pounds. On the 5 pound note was Florence Nigthingale, the British woman creditated with inventing modern day Nursing profession. On the 10 pound note was Isaac Newton, renouned British physicist. All over the world, different nations honour their heroes and celebrated citizens by giving them a place of priviledge on their local currency. Those heroes are usually people of impeccable character who have contributed positively to the country and even the wider world. People worth emulating.

It is therefore shocking that a country like Nigeria can give a coup plotter, failed Soldier, genocidal killer, mass-murderer and despot

1) He led the counter coup of July 1966 where he superviced the systematic slaughter of over 300 fellow Soldiers, mostly of Eastern extraction which included General Ironsi. Murtalas coup then took on ethnic and religious connotations and ultimately resulted in over 50,000 people, men, women and children being killed.

2) At the start of the war, Murtala Mohammed marched into Asaba. The few Asaba indigenes who still believed in 'one Nigeria' came out to welcome the Federal troops at cable point area of the city. Almost 1000 of them were gunned down on the spot by Murtala's men.

3) Retreating Biafran troops had blown up the Niger Bridge leading into Onitsha. Murtala was warned by Army headquarters that Biafran Soldiers had taken up defensive positions on the other side of the River. He was told to go up north where it was safe to cross the River. Murtala, believing in his false sense of bravado as a military tactician, disregarded direct orders and tried to cross the River into Onitsha 3 times. All met with huge catastrophe amongst his troops. Thousands of Nigerian soldiers were used as target practice by the Biafran Soldiers while others drowned in the River. Murtala then went up North and crossed the River then tried again to invade Onitsha. He led a contingent of 100 trucks full of troops, ammunition and supplies but was but was stopped at Abagana and completely destroyed. Murtala barely made it out of that battle with his life. After this episode, Murtala was recalled from the war front and sent on indefinite leave to London after leading thousands of men to their deaths due to his bad leadership.

Murtala was one of the worst Officers ever produced by the Nigerian Army. He was a homicidal maniac, accomplished coup plotter, genocidal killer, war criminal, military dictator and a narcissist of incredible dimensions. Why is this evil man on the N20 note?

This anger and hatred will kill all your generations. When your foolish leader Emeka Ojukwu declared a senseless war, were you fools expecting the Nigeria Army to come and start giving you fools hugs and kisses at the war front? Oh! the Nigeria Army actually did, the Nigeria Army hugged, romanced and fuccked your worthless women, ladies and girls and slaughtered your useless coward men. If you start another useless war the Nigeria Army is ever ready to repeat the 1967 to 1970 feat.

Thats the Nigerian mentality that Im talking about. Because you cannot defend the mass-muderer called Murtala Mohammed, you started talking about Ojukwu who has nothing to to with this topic.

I repeat, if you do anyhow, you will see anyhow. I pray for my friends and curse my enemies. If you stretch your hand for a handshake, I will give you a tight hug but if give me a knock on my head, I will give you a dirty slap that will reset your destiny.

Which means that Murtala Mohammed should be honoured for being a mass-Murderer?

Only in Nigeria where such an irrelevant dude could amount to anything. If not for his uncle and nepotistic endeavor, which saw most soldiers from northern region of Nigeria as army officers, the jackass called Murtala Mohammed would not have worn army uniform of officer's cadre. It is laughable to read the dude was a military tactician. He was a mere signal officer and could not have recognized a tactical manual if left on his table. After the military blunder only fool could have committed, he want on "AWOL" abandoning his troops. He was arrested in Kano and marched back to army headquarter in Lagos by Col A. Ochefu who was the provost Marshall at the time. Gowon lamented why he failed to dismiss the joker from the army when such opportunity presented itself. Murtala Mohammed was still allowed in the army after such ugly episode due to pressure from northern elites.

He killed those that took up arms against the government. That is treason, felony and mutiny and is punishable by death.

Are you okay? There was nothing like punishable by death for treasonable felony when Murtala Mohammed was alive.

The 1000 civilians he massacred in Asaba took up arms against government?
