Very glad to see Africans getting interested in our languages. The only difference between us and apes is that we humans have spoken language, so if you can't identify with a language that's yours and not imported one, question could be raised whether you're human.

What a shame Africans import everything including LANGUAGE!!.

Keep it up whoever you are!.

Some of these words are similar to Igbo.

Some Ibo words are very similar to Yoruba words, have you not noticed? Yoruba language helped developed Ibos. Ibos were still running in bushes when Yorubas were building civilization.

Teach us more please.

I don't understand itsekiri o, but if you want to know some urhobo words that's similar to itseke I can help you out.

Ésété (plate) in urhobo it's o'sete same meaning, Ukujéré (spoon) same in urhobo , uda (sword/cutlass) in urhobo it's oda which means cutlass .

simply put, itsekiri is a mixture of Yoruba and urhobo /edo, although 70% of the language are Yoruba words.

no doubt we all share some few words together, like in urhobo we call blood obara same with you but pronounciation is slightly different, you can as well point out the itsekiri word you think it's igbo.

we are all learning.

Sure, some of the words are shared with Yoruba as well like Yoruba ogun (twenty) and Igbo ọgụ (twenty).

Some words that are similar here are:

Itsekiri - Igbo
ekpetin (box) - akpati
ukpo (bed) - ukpo (platform)
uko (cup) - iko
okérén (man) - okenye
okoro (man) - okoro
aféré (wind) - ufere (breeze/wind)
esin (pig) - ezi
etin (ear) - nti
tolotolo (turkey) - tolotolo

Just a little similar is Itsekiri soro (stand) and Igbo wuzo (stand)

True, also Itsekiri were big traders, so languages of trading communities usually have lots of influence or influence others more.

itsekiri have only one dialect, they speak same. [/quote

You claimed in your earlier post that Itshekiri are 'hybrid ' people- mixture of Yoruba,Bini and their Neighbours as you pu it. The question is do the Binis and 'their Neighbours' understand any of the words you have posted so far? The reason for that question is that as a Yoruba man,I understand clearly the meaning and usage of every word you put up there 'cause they are my words-my language! My point is very simple- the Itshekiri are Yoruba. You may disagree with me but that is a fact bro.

bini and urhobo might not understand itsekiri language because the itsekiri language is purely yoruboid, they only borrowed some words from those tribe why maintaining their original Yoruba dialect.

if you read from the front page no body disputed the fact that itsekiri is yoruboid, even the op onuwaje who is an itsekiri man acknowledged the fact that itsekiri language is a Yoruba dialect, as for you claim about itsekiri been yoruba, I think your should respect their stance on this.

They choose to call themselves itsekiri, why not respect their decision, speaking same language and bearing same name with you don't make someone a member of your tribe.

please let's not derail this thread. thanks
