9jabull:Have you heard of Catalonia ? Do you know how long they have been campaigning for separation ? Have you heard of Scotland? Do you know how long they have been campaigning for separation ? Have you heard of Kurds, do you know how long they have been campaigning for a Separate homeland? despite the chemical bombs used on them by Saddam, despite ISIS atrocity on them, they are still far from achieving it. I dont know why IPOB think by mere demostrations and civil disobedience they can achieve anything. Nigeria will never let the oil fields of Bright of Biafra go without a fight. However we dont have to fight. If IPOB can win elections in the Biafran states, they can then form a de facto- Autonomous region. will have a good footing to negotiate on behalf of the region. Can i ask you a question? what is the size of IPOD biggest rally ? Lets say 1 million? 2, 3? i will give you 4 million. even at 4million it is only a minute fraction of the total population of the region they portray to represent. IPOB need more legitimacy which only Election can offer them. Ojukwu was able to command and declare Biafra becos he had the authority of Eastern regional Assembly. What Authority does IPOB have ? Mob action. |

The only success recorded by this article is to expound on the reason behind the tacit support of "one Nigeria" by the Western Yoruba region. Irrespective of the stout opposition on the way, It is now or never. Biafrans must take their own destiny in their own hands. I stand with Biafra. God bless NK God bless lovers of Freedom God bless lovers of equity and fairness. |

macjive01:And you think as well that Nigerian questions of "Restructuring, Implementation of Sovereign national conference recommendations, SS/SE regional integration/cooperation,etc" would have been on the front burner today without those "mere civil disobedience" as you called it? No harm in sitting back and watch as events unfold! God bless NK God bless lovers of freedom God bless lovers of equity, fairness, justice and fair play God bless freedom fighters. No more response from me on this issue. Good day. |

This is one of the best posts that aptly captures to outline of power struggle in Nigeria. Most other tribes apart from the Igbo are after development of their respective regions only. Because the Hausa / Yoruba soldiers supervised the 1999 constitution, it was done in a way to ensure that only Northerner and indirectly the Hausa / Fulani and the Yoruba can determine who rules Nigeria. To some extent an Igbo or SS will be allowed but it must be of the stock of Rochas Okorocha who see nothing wrong in the status quo. We have all seen how Jonathan behaved in power. He conducted himself as if it was an offence to be fair to all regions. He was scared not to be seen to identify with his own people; something a Yoruba or Hausa Fulani president will do without bathing an eyelid. |

Etogist:As long as the civil disobedience is not distrupting the flow of money to Government. Affect the commercial nerve of Nigeria - lagos or sit of power -Abuja, or distrupting the oil operations in Port harcourt, the Federal governement can afford to ignore the IPOB struggle for eternity. Would a prolong Civil disobedience of the North East Nigeria- a region double the size of Biafra affect the government ? Why then would IPOB's affect the country ? How long would it be before other Igbos not symphatetic to the struggle start an internal war with those in support. If there is no progress soon Nnamdi Kanu's aura would start to fade. The struggle would turn to MASSOB's. Becomes monotonous and flatter. |

macjive01:If everybody remembers, it took just one 'sit at home' protest for Northern youths to support Biafra and ask the Igbos to go. This tells me that if IPOB piles enough pressure with boycotts (elections or otherwise), peaceful protest, mobilisation etc, a time will come when the political establishment of Nigeria will all come together and decide to give Biafrans a referendum. Unlike normal elections where voters vote for multiple candidates, referendums usually ask a single question which people vote YES or No to. Anyone planning to rig that hasnt been born yet. Hence they ONLY way will be through the ballot.IPOB becoming a political party or becoming involved in politics will mean the end of them. IPOB'S legitimacy comes from people seeing it as a freedom fighting organisation. Once they let themselves be stained by Nigerian politics, that legitimacy is gone and they will become another PDP or APC that cannot be trusted. Kanu has been very wise to keep IPOB out of the muddy waters of Nigerian politics. The structure of Nigeria is different from Britain. Britain is a federal structure of 4 autonomus Regions. Any party that supports secession are allowed to contest positions, and if they win, can move a motion of independence in their Regional house of parliament without having to go through the central government in London. Even if IPOB formed a political party and won every polical position in the SE/SS area, they would still have to go to Abuja to move a motion for independence at the National Assembly which is 100% guaranteed to fail as the other zones will definitely not vote for the break up of Nigeria. That would all be wasted effort. So I urge IPOB to continue what they are doing, they are on the right track. Im an Anambra man who thinks Obiano has done well but I support boycott because freedom is more important to me that whatever Obiano has done |

macjive01:My brother, your postulation is plausible but it will be very easy for the forces behind the status quo to defeat such strategy. Because in Nigeria ideology doesn't win election but money bags (among other things) win Ever wondered why Ojukwu lost a senatorial election in igbo land? Besides even if all senators/reps from the south east are pro Biafra, they'll still be an insignificant minority which cannot possibly pull off the Biafra idea. In fact they'll be so ostracized that many of them will sucomb to pressure and abandon the idea. I remember sometime ago when a senator from Abia state raised the issue of Biafra on the floor of the Senate, the atmosphere became so charged that some of the other senators appear ready to beat him up. Again your suggestion is exactly what massob set out to achieve through APGA but you can see how they ended up. Chekwas Okorie has also been toeing the path without any tangible result. Finally, I agree that nnamdi kanu's strategy is crude, controversial and sometimes confusing but it has been largely successful and has proven quite difficult for the politicians and government forces to comprehend. Based on the above, give him the benefit of doubt while other events unfold. On the flip side, I'm happy that Ohaneze has woken up to its responsibilities as a moderator, building bridges and calming flayed nerves. |

Unlike normal elections where voters vote for multiple candidates, referendums usually ask a single question which people vote YES or No to. Anyone planning to rig that hasnt been born yet.Arewa youth have no political authority, they can say what they want, they dont wedge power and are easily controlled and shepherd by their leaders. Just you know, come the oct 1st these Allakubar terrorist up North could kill igbos and burn igbo businesses in the North and nothing will happen. We will turn around and blame those Igbos for going to the North. We can protest as much as we want. Write to UN and everybody. Firstly, Federal government and Hausa leaders will deny any involvement and "vow " to bring to account the perpetuators- but we all know how it ends , dont we? What then can we do ? - Probably chase away or at stretch kill some hausas in the east, boycott and threaten heaven and earth. Still, IPOB having no Executive Authority can't do much. IPOB need Executive powers which they can only realistically get from winning the state elections. However, if they had executive powers and such killings were to happen: 1, They could impose levies on "non-state" vehicles entering the region 2. Impose steep fine for Muslims in the region- this could be counter-productive though as the other regions could easily retaliate. but heyhoh.. that what IPOB should want. If other regions retaliate- the igbos in those state might finally begin to feel uncomfortable and might just begin to repatriate their business and investment to Biafra. As well as begin to homogenise the country into regions. And create the anxiety in the country and for the governement as Sharia introduction by zamfara state did. 3. If IPOB have states under them, they could ban non-Biafran youth coppers in the states. same as above point to create a disunity and heat up the politics. 4. SET up Biafran Football League. and to run concurrent to NFA league. ( part of identity and nation building) 5. Have resources or better structure to organise and build monuments for Biafrans, the war, fallen heros in the struggle. 6. Ban Nigerian Military and police from the states- that could be done under relocation of the barracks. - organise a fire on the building and force a relocation. relocated them to a forest at the outskirt of town. 7. We might not want war- but we need a well equiped Israeli- trained "local vigilantee force" able to shoot and carry out reconnaissance deep into enemy territory. A force able to defend our new Biafra Mega farms from Fulani Heardmen and other sabouteurs. 8. Force National service operating in the states to have a regional office- the 5 Local telecoms. 9. Ban all Non-biafran affiliated banks- GTB !!!- if you cant ban them- organise successions of theft and burning of their offices to chase them out of the states. 10. Ban Dangote truck and services. 11. If FREEDOM PARTY ( Ipob political Arm) wins overwhelming in Rivers state. then the screwing can be a lot sweeter. BAN ALL NON BIAFRAN FROM THE OIL FIELDS and OIL JOBS within the region- YES INCLUDING YORuBAS . We then sit back and wait for Lagos to retaliate. |

Once they let themselves be stained by Nigerian politics, that legitimacy is gone and they will become another PDP or APC that cannot be trusted. Kanu has been very wise to keep IPOB out of the muddy waters of Nigerian politics. Its a necessary evil. They could set up an Affiliate party. A political arm of the struggle. IPOB needs that structure and recognition. As it is, NK is IPOB and IPOB is NK, if he was for whatever reason not available the IPOB struggle dies, or goes into hybernation. That was evident when he was locked up. The radio station died. Hence why IPOB needs a political wing. |

When Tinubu create 10 additional Local Government area , did he have the constituted powers to do it ? As long as there is a will, a bit of Authority and the people behind you .. forget the rest |

Jonathan39:There is a party called United Progressive Party (UPP) now in Anambra state, and they are the party to keep an eye out for. I don't think Biafra agitators need a new party which will only create more controversy, they should simply find and align their interests with a truly progressive party. One with a strategy which is youth-oriented and transparent. |

Civil disobedience is COUNTER-PRODUCTIVE. Willie is a weak pawn and because those who support him have realized he can't get them their precious Biafra, they want to cause civil unrest in my state. SHAME! Osita Chidoka is a strategist and someone to whom the Biafra cause is dear to his heart, but he realizes we can't get it through noisemaking and acting like chimpanzees. Even if we do, he wants it done peacefully and diplomatically. It's not evertime that Nigerians and Igbo people should be acting like dogs with rabies. attackgat: |

Aliskywalker:Good. What haven't we told those goats who think boycotts and civil disobedience is the answer to getting Biafra instead of doing it in a more diplomatic way and through politics if we are to avoid a war. Ask those goats where Nnamdi kanu kept the weapons that could be used in fighting Nigeria should they resort to war inorder to get their Biafra Where is the international support in the first place Meanwhile, October 1st is around the corner, ask those goats what kanu and radio Biafra is saying about it, nothing. Ndi ala, the already deluded ones would call me afonja as usual. |

Aliskywalker:How does civil disobedience now turn to civil unrest? For the Biafran, whoever lives in Government House Awka is not the important thing. You can bet that person will swear an oat to uphold Nigeria. The important thing is the boycott its self. |

The price of Kuwait's election boycott http://www.dw.com/en/the-price-of-kuwaits-election-boycott/a-16423752 I will summarise it Ibtihal al-Khatib's boycott of Saturday's (01.12.2012) election in Kuwait almost caused her to lose people who are dear to her, friends and family members who could not understand why she didn't want to vote. "It broke my heart, but my conviction simply was stronger," the professor for English literature told DW. Her conviction was that she had to do something against the "totalitarian decision of the government." Last election , opposition won 50 mandates before paliament was dissolved Just last February, the opposition won a majority of 50 mandates. The emir then called for a new election, but the opposition called for a boycott which led to violent protests in October. The majority of Kuwaitis joined the boycott. Election turnout was only 39 percent, much lower compared to the usual 60 percent "The election created a new political class," said Coates Ulrichsen. The clear winners were parliamentarians close to the government line, among them many Shiites who won 17 out of 50 seats. Only four seats went to Sunni Islamists; in the February election, they received 23. |
