Our players have not moved to the top teams in Turkey though.

Belgium, French or Dutch leagues are better leagues for career progression. Awaziem to Nantes for instance is a great move, a solid season in Ligue 1 will make him a better player. It can even be a route to a bigger team.

Turkey can easily be a dead end destination. Omeruo has stagnated in Turkey playing for poor teams. Ekong is going the same route. Otigba has gone back to Hungary after his Turkish spell.
I can not disagree with you.

If you are not in the top 3/4 teams in Turkey you could be on the road to obscurity in that regard a poor move. Or should we be brutally honest and admit some of our prized players are simply not that good and or have doubts about their capacity.

In some regards you are better off in the Scottish Premier league have a storming season and move to the EPL, as i am almost certain there are far more players who have left the Scottish league to the EPL than the Turkish league.

This is irrespective of how low Scotland's premier league is ranked by UEFA which is 27th in Europe.

i share goodjoe's mistrust for the technical committee. what is the point of hiring a coach if a group of so called ''experts'' interfere in his job. my idea of a technical committee is one that does deep research and intellectual brain storming to fashion out playing styles for the national team from youth to senior level. this will then guide the nff on the type of coach/coaches who should be hired that share the same philosophies of the technical committee regarding playing styles that have been chosen. the only person the coach should answer to is the board of the nff. if they are dissatisfied with his performance they should let him know or better still sack him. the technical committee as assembled now is a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth.

yes we respect our ex internationals but if they are wrong on certain issues we can call them out for instance i respect and admire segun odegbami but its not everything he says i agree with
Ur idea of the technical committee is wrong. They are not there to make decisions but to help the coach. Only Rohr can decide how much influence they have. To me this is a case of people putting words in the coaches mouth because Rohr has made sure to not alienate anyone so far.

Folks, it's been a good week so far. Yes, I am still recovering from the shock of seeing Nadal go out of Wimbledon. But that shock has been followed by two good news:

Yesterday, Andy Murray was bundled out as well.
The soulless biatch, Angie Keber also lost.
And this morning, our evergreen lady, Venus Williams is teaching Johanna Konte some unforgettable lessons in tennis out there on center court Wimbledon!

I am quite excited. In fact, ecstatic!

FED is definitely the G-O-A-T. But I like Rafa because, to me, he's the man who saved Tennis. Men's tennis was becoming boring and quite uncompetitive because it was Fed and then the others; until Rafa busted into the scene like a whirlwind! And all of a sudden the world realized that Federer can be beaten by a mere mortal. That's when I went back to watching men's tennis.

As concerns to Murray, he's just a creation of the American and the British media. As far as I know, tennis currently has 3 Super Stars: Roger, Rafa, and Novak; hence we have the big 3 not the big 4 as the media would have us believe. The whole big 4 thing annoys me to no end. Think about it, three of the big 4 (Roger, Rafa, and Novak) have all won double digits in grand slams while the other member of the bug 4 has only won a total of 3 slams! Exactly the same number of slams won by Stan Wawrinka who's never mentioned as a member!!

The Williams sisters are an inspiration!

Hopefully, Venus can win on Saturday and then we'll start praying for the US Open. I would like to see her reach double digits in grand slams win before she retires. I told her on twitter that thisperiod is her window of opportunity to run up the number on slams.

chrisooblog gave a perfect description of the role of the technical committee. Their job is to suggest the best coach and styles to fit the team. If they want to help the coach, they can make research and submit to the coach to scrutinize. It is up to the coach to take or leave whatever suggestion they make. However, that is not their primary role. They have to select the right vision and mission of the team. Select the right coach to fit their vision. Then the coach carries along with that.

Can a board or technical team veto the list of Guardiola or Mourinho?

It is here people who we know can not coach the team have power to veto someone we know is a better coach than them.

So are u guys expecting them to go for a walk and wait for Nigeria to need a new coach?

I don't know about Pep but Conte didn't do much signing last year.

Report: Tottenham want Moses Simon after impressing against them last season; Brighton bid fails

Olly Dawes@O_DawesSport23 hours ago

Here Is The City

Brighton, Liverpool, Tottenham and West Brom are reportedly keen on Moses Simon.

According to the Daily Mail, Brighton and Hove Albion have failed with a bid for Gent attacker Moses Simon – and Liverpool, Tottenham and West Brom are thought to be lurking.

The Seagulls have strengthened their squad since winning promotion to the Premier League by bringing in the likes of goalkeeper Mat Ryan and playmaker Pascal Gross, but Chris Hughton will need further additions as he looks to keep Brighton in the top flight.

Whilst Brighton have Glenn Murray, Sam Baldock and Tomer Hemed in attack, but adding another forward with real pace to trouble defence could be a smart move for the Seagulls.

The Daily Mail now report that Brighton are pursuing a deal for Gent striker Moses Simon, but have had an initial bid of £8.4million rejected, with the Belgian side looking for a fee of £13million.

It's added that Liverpool, Tottenham and West Bromwich Albion have also been tracking Simon, with Spurs particularly impressed with his performances against them in the Europa League earlier this year.

Simon, 22, joined Gent from Trencin in 2015, and he was an important player last season with five goals and seven assists to his name, and he has attracted major interest.

A diminutive forward who can play up front or out wide, Simon possesses blistering pace and real trickery on the ball, meaning he could be a versatile attacking option for any Premier League club.

With the £13million asking price though, it remains to be seen whether one of the four interested teams can tempt the Belgians into a deal this summer.

Would you like to see your club sign Simon?

I am against the Technical Committee interfering with the work of the coach. They should not vet his list or determine the plans he should make. That should lie squarely on the Rohr. I am not against them making suggestions for the manager to accept or not.

If they are not interfering, kudos to them and I am proud of that. If they are, then I have a problem with that. Gerrit?

NPFL's senior citizens (2)
Published on Thursday, 13 July 2017 07:23 Hits: 386

By Clement Nwankpa Jr

In this concluding part of the series on serving legends of the NPFL, Clement Nwamkpa continues his chronicle.

GAMBO MOHAMMED (KANO PILLARS)
Gambo is a typical one-club player. It is hard to imagine him outside Pillars. Even after featuring against the star-studded Spanish national team at 2013 Confederation Cup, many expected Gambo to finally take his stock abroad but he has found a home with the sai masu gida. At some point, he moved to Middle East but cut short that stint due to home sickness and returned to Pillars. And he has been a consistent goal scorer in the domestic scene over the years. His goals were vital as Pillars won the title on three consecutive occasions. It must however be noted that in recent years, his goal returns have dropped. In the current season, his playing time has been restricted. But one moment he buttressed the saying that 'an old woman is not too old to dance to a familiar tune' was against Enyimba in Kano when he came off the bench to grab a late winner for Pillars.

ADAMU MOHAMMED (KANO PILLARS)
This is the league's Mr.Impact. Whenever he comes off the bench, the Sani Abacha Stadium erupts into cheers because the fans believe something must happen. And he has had many of such cameo moments off the bench for Pillars. Against Katsina, he came off the bench to break the visitors' resistance just as he scored a brace to secure all three points after being introduced against Shooting Stars. Funny enough, whenever he starts, he rarely replicates those heroic moments. But his game now seems suited to coming from the bench to take advantage of tired legs on the pitch. He isn't getting younger. His best days are well behind him.

IKECHUKWU IBENEGBU (ENYIMBA)
One of the familiar pictures in the league for the past one decade is a certain lanky figure running things in the middle of the park. You could be deceived by this lad's skinny appearance but then he stings with his passes and long range canons hence he is nicknamed 'Mosquito'. A key member of that Heartland back-to-back Federation Cup winning squad, Ibenegbu had since moved on to Warri Wolves and Enyimba. And at a time when he could be regarded as one of the league's senior citizens, the Sand Eagle is still dominating midfield battles in the NPFL. He made his foray into the league in the colours of ElKanemi in 2006 and was a member of the 2016 CHAN Eagles.

IFEANYI ONUIGBO (FC IFEANYIUBAH)
Pam Pam is one of the most popular figures in the NPFL. You can't miss his dreadlocks and tough looks. And he is also feisty on and off the ball. For his increasing age, it is still interesting seeing him ruffle younger oppositions. You must be up to his all-action play. He doesn't score much but he keeps you engaged for his duration on the pitch. And given the presence of the likes of Godwin Obaje at FCIU, he doesn't get to play much these days. After over a decade in the league with stints abroad in between, may be time has come for Onuigbo, who is also involved with the Sand Eagles, to gradually wind down his career. But he could still be somehow motivated. Just last year, he played a starring role in Enyimba's Champions League campaign.

CLETUS ITODO (LOBI STARS)
At Lobi, younger players call Itodo 'senior man'. Why not? Not a few of them could have watched from the stands while this midfield anchor strutted his stuff back then. Those were days his name featured prominently in the home-based Eagles. In a team that has Tyavkase starting regularly, a coach wouldn't be comfortable having Itodo on at the same time. So Itodo does more from the bench for Lobi. But whenever he comes on, you see the glimpses of a consummate midfielder. Time hasn't eroded the quality. Incidentally, he is having his first stint with his hometown club, Lobi, a development he attributed to to his decision to stay away from home till much later in his career. He had featured for Enyimba, Sunshine, Dolphins, Pillars, Akwa and Shooting Stars.

THEOPHILUS AFELOKHAI (ENYIMBA)
After 10 years at Pillars, Afelokhai joined Enyimba last season. Before linking up with the People's Elephant, he was a key member of that famed Pillars squad that dominated the domestic scene. At Pillars, he was always the first name on the list, but when he opted to leave his comfort zone, he has been made to sweat more for his place at Enyimba. His cause has not been aided by the signing of Ghanaian international Fatau Dauda this season. With younger keepers like Emeka Nwabulu, Siraj Ayeleso and Olonruleke Ojo who seem to keep clean sheets for fun, goalkeeping standards have also been raised in the NPFL. But Afelokhai doesn't seem willing to take a back seat yet.

RABIU ALI (KANO PILLARS)
Rabiu Ali is at the bridge between the 'senior citizens' and the younger generation in the NPFL. He has been excelling at the highest level for a long time that many fail to reckon that he actually started out so early. One of those natural talents who blossom early with their hometown clubs. For about a decade, he has been a mainstay of Pillars midfield, a pivotal member of the Pillars golden era. Despite the fact that Pillars has been recruiting quality midfielders season after season, Ali has remained relevant. This term, he has not taken his feet off the pedal. He has been a member of the last two CHAN squads just as he was in the NPFL All Stars squad. As long as he keeps churning out top notch performances as he is doing this

season, it will be hard for national team selectors to ignore him. It will be hard to assemble an All Star NPFL squad for the past 10 years without having Ali in there as the midfield orchestrator.

EFOSA EGUAKUN (RIVERS UNITED)
After a long sojourn abroad that took him to Sudan, Algeria, Egypt and middle east, Eguakun recently enlisted in the colours of Rivers United. This isn't a bad idea. Nigerian players should learn to return home at the twilight of their careers. That's one sure way of giving back to the society. A member of the 2003 set of U20s, winger Eguakun was a nightmare for full backs in the domestic scene in the colours of Dolphins. He has found it hard breaking into United's starting 11 but he has acquainted himself well on the few occasions he has been given the opportunities.

AKPAN BASSEY (RANGERS)
Goalkeeper Bassey is the last of the 2001 crop of U17s that lost to France in the U17 World Cup final, still playing top flight football. Joseph Eyimofe has dropped to the lower rungs of the league this season. Drafted in as a stop-gap measure when Rangers had injury-induced goalkeeping crisis, Bassey had also had brief stints in South Africa and Vietnam. That kid of 2001 has blossomed into a veteran of sorts. In an NPFL career that has spanned through about 13 seasons, he has really been all the places and was once a regular national team invitee. He has donned the colours of Shooting, Bayelsa United, Sunshine, Kwara United, Heartland, Abia Warriors and Akwa.

Algeria plan to ‘freeze’ Super Eagles in Constantine

Algeria have not given up hope of qualifying for next year’s World Cup and as such have moved their home games including November clash against Nigeria to Constantine, which is much colder than Blida.

“Constantine in November will be like a deep freezer,” warned an official.

The Super Eagles lead the qualifying group with six points from two matches, while Cameroon are second. Zambia and Algeria are on a point each.

Algeria were held to a 1-1 draw by Cameroon in October 2016 in their first home game of the qualifiers played in Blida.

SCORENigeria has now gathered Algeria will host Zambia in Constantine in September, before they welcome Nigeria on November at the same venue.

Algeria are now under a new coach, Lucas Alcaraz, formerly of Spanish club Granada CF. He is the third coach to take charge of the North Africans since they began the qualifying campaign for Russia 2017.

Manchester City goalkeeper, Hart, visits Ikeme in hospital

Posted on Jul 14, 2017 in Sports

• Rohr heads to England for Eagles goalie, Moses

Manchester City goalkeeper, Joe Hart was on hand to motivate and support Super Eagles goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme as he visited him at the hospital.

Ikeme who last week was diagnosed with acute leukaemia by the club (Wolverhampton Wanderer), a championship team in England, during a series of blood test, has been receiving wide support from players around the world.

The Nigerian international has been Super Eagles number one goalkeeper since the departure of Vincent Enyeama; helping the team with crucial saves as they defeated Zambia 2-1 and Algeria 3-1 in a 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Hart’s visit will serve as a moral boost in his fight against the disease.

On Tuesday, the club also declared that Ikeme will maintain his number one shirt despite the arrival of goalkeeper, Ruddy this summer.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, is to hit England to visit Ikeme, who was recently diagnosed of acute leukaemia, and Victor Moses, who has undergone a toe surgery.

On Wednesday, an NFF official announced that the Eagles adviser, who is currently in Europe, will visit the two players to express his solidarity to them ahead of the 2018 FIFA world cup clash against Cameroon.

“Rohr is on his way to England to visit both Carl Ikeme and Victor Moses after their latest fitness concerns,” a top NFF official disclosed yesterday.

In the meantime, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has asserted that the Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr, and his players are focused and strategizing on the all-important 2018 FIFA World Cup double header versus the unconquerable Lions of Cameroon.

NFF Director of media and communications, Ademola Olajire, yesterday said that the Franco German coach is still in Europe where he has been meeting with the Europe based players and their managers on the much important game.

Olajire, who was reacting to online reports that the Eagles technical adviser has threatened to resign his appointment over NFF interference, urged Nigerians not to distract the coach and players with negative reports, stressing that the team is intact and will not need any form of distraction ahead of the double header clash with the African champions.

“The team is focussed on the game against Cameroon. The Coach is still in Europe and has continued to meet with players and their managers ahead of the matches. So I think they do not need to be distracted at this particular time with negative reports”, Olajire noted. The NFF image maker also disclosed that the NFF and FIFA has reached an agreement on the date for the Super Eagles match against Cameroon in Uyo, noting that the federation was able to convince FIFA on its stand on the September 1 date.

Enyeama not ready for Super Eagles now, says Shorunmu

By Alex Monye

Former Super Eagles Goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu has called on the national team manager, Gernot Rohr, to handle with caution the issue of goalkeepers for the country’s 2018 World Cup qualifying matches against Cameroon slated for Uyo next month and September.

Shorunmu, who expressed shock over the health condition of Super Eagles number one, Carl Ikeme, which has automatically excluded him from the Cameroun clash, said picking a replacement for the crucial games ahead needed careful planning.

He advised Rohr to look beyond former Super Eagles’ Captain, Vincent Enyeama, saying the Lille of France goalkeeper is tuned off the team, saying, “I spoke to him personally some time ago. I do not think he wants to return.

“Enyeama is a professional that needs to be respected on his views. I cannot name any keeper that is a good replacement for Ikeme, the Eagles coaches are working closely with the team, they are in the right position to get the best.”

He said Nigeria has quality goalkeepers that can withstand any team in the AFCON and World Cup qualifiers, adding that the only way to get the best out of the lot is to give every keeper invited to the team equal opportunity to prove his worth.

He explained that it was wrong for some people to say that Nigeria has goalkeeping problem based on Ikeme’s absence, adding that the insinuation is capable of weighing down others ready to fight to earn the number one position in the team.

Shorunmu urged Rohr to give all the invited young goalkeepers equal opportunity and belief they have what it takes to take the position, stressing that other past excellent goalkeepers succeed because the coaches reposed confidence in them.

“When Enyeama left the team, Ikeme came in. He was given all the support to excel and if another goalkeeper the coaches believe can deliver due to his current performance is picked, all that keeper needs is total support from everybody to go the extra mile. Criticisms cannot lead the team any where now,” he said.

Nigeria legends again proved their class with Yakubu Aiyegbeni ‘The Yak’ fired a brace and Daniel Amokachi also hit target in a 3-2 win over China at the Star Sixes in London.

Nigeria were captained by Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha with goalkeeper Peter Rufai showing some great reflexes on the night.

Okocha’s team face a tougher challenge tonight when they come up against Italy, who will line up the likes of Paolo di Canio and Fabrizio Ravanelli.

Their final group game is on Saturday afternoon against mighty Brazil.

The final of Star Sixes will be played Sunday night.

NPFL's senior citizens (2)

I recall Efosa then at Insurance and later Dolphins. He's a highly skillful winger. One of those type of wing men who takes pleasure in embarrassing full backs.
He was part of the group of talents (Ndubuisi Eze, Edurance Idaho, Kelechi Osunwa and Steve Nworgu) who were poached away by Sudanese clubs.

July 13, 2017

The coach of the new club of Sincere Seth has backed the Nigeria U23 to become the best fullback in Turkey.

Seth from Rhapsody Academy of Abuja has bagged a three-year contract with Yeni Malatyaspor, who have won promotion to the Turkish Super Lig.

The player’s representative Abumere Daniel exclusively told SCORENigeria: “The coach is very pleased to have an Olympics player in his team and he’s so sure Sincere will be the best right back in the Turkish Super Lig.”

The all-action defender, who won bronze at the Rio Olympics after Nigeria also triumphed at 2015 U23 AFCON in Senegal, also told SCORENigeria said he hopes his displays in Turkey will earn him a call-up to the Super Eagles particularly for problematic rightback position.

“It will be great to play against top clubs like Fernabache, Besiktas and Galatasaray,” he said.

“I also hope I will get a chance in the Super Eagles after what I prove in the Turkish Super Lig.”

July 14, 2017

Nigeria assistant captain Ogenyi Onazi may soon move to Spanish La Liga side Sevilla as a bid in the region of six million Euros will be tabled to Turkish club Trabzonspor, SCORENigeria has yet again scooped on another major transfer story.

A source close to Onazi’s agent revealed to ScoreNigeria.com.ng that Sevilla contacted the player’s representative Ayo Makinwa and that a bid will soon be presented to his Turkish club.

“Sevilla contacted Eddy’s (Onazi) agent for a possible transfer this summer. They will soon table an official bid of about six million Euros,” the source exclusively told ScoreNigeria.com.ng

Former Lazio midfielder Onazi is currently in pre-season camp in with Trabzonspor after he resolved a pay row that almost caused him to walk out on the Turkish club.

Why Nigeria stars will love Turkey – Kenneth Omeruo

Kenneth Omeruo has said he believes some of Nigeria top stars who are now finding their way to Turkey will go on to enjoy the Super Lig because it is a decent competition which affords a player regular first-team football.

Omeruo has played in the Turkish Super Lig for the past two seasons on loan from Premier League champions Chelsea and he should therefore be in a good position to discuss the league there.

Eagles stars Elderson Echiejile and William Troost-Ekong are the most recent additions to the Nigerian contingent in Turkey

“Yes, I see our players moving to Turkey and I am sure it’s a decent league. I know this because I have played there for two seasons,” he maintained.

“People might criticise these moves, but believe me if they get to play week in and week out, then it’s good for them and for the national team as well because they are getting playing time in a decent league.

He added, “I have always loved playing in Turkey and I know our players moving over there are going to love it also, the only disadvantage is that it’s not being televised in Nigeria. It is a decent league.”

He restated his wish to stay put at Chelsea in the coming season, but he is equally realistic that he may have to go elsewhere to play regularly in the coming season with the 2018 World Cup in Russia on the horizon.

“I do want to stay permanently in Chelsea, but again there is the issue of if I want to be on the bench for a season with the World Cup around the corner?” he asked.

“My answer is no. I don’t want to miss an opportunity of playing for the country, so I must be in a league where am playing regularly.”
