He might be using vsat whose service provider is based in France. Some Internet service providers here just resell bandwidth.

anyways i am curious, u said that service provider is in France,

is it legal?

Well, not sure if it's legal but I've seen a vsat that route all packets to Israel first and uses Israeli IP. So I just assumed it could happen to someone else. I only experience it with that ISP then and I guess it some kind of backup for their main link.

Thanks bro

I've being wondering why radar could see small Boats at short distance but won't see a submarine on the surface of the water. Nemesis2u, you have more explanation to make.

well bro i have no explanation to offer, i am at complete loss of worlds after i read the post grin

u should ask the guy for the name of the ship borne radar which can detect submarines, i will surely recommend my navy to buy it at the earliest.

and to think of the billions of dollars wasted on sonars by almost everybody.

and also plz ask him to explain how the ship borne radar manages to break the laws of physics ie overcome the radio horizon limitation in order to detect a submarine below the radio horizon.

as for anti clutter radar , just ask him to be more specific like which ship borne radar has the capability to reject volume clutter and surface clutter in a heavy sea state in order to locate and identify a tiny periscope .

and ask him to be precise and technical
i am not in the mood for a english comprehension lesson

plz get him to reply @ https://www.nairaland.com/1962290/african-militaries-strictly-discussions-thread/17

I don't think they made alot. Last time i read, i think they've made only 7 units. I could be wrong, numbers might have changed, but that is the last publicly available figure i saw.

Dear you are not out of order about Radars being able to detect subs on sea surface when it snorkels or uses a periscope and Technology has advanced today and some Radars have anti-clutter capability etc. FLIR too is used to detect it's heat on sea surface or track it when dark. NN ships operate sophisticated technology.

We don't sail the high seas to Australia, China and back trusting the goodwill of Nations alone knowing some will rejoice at any misfortune of ours. Submarines are great assets and great threats too so no one takes chances yet it remains prey, it's like searching for a dangerous snake.

There are a whole host of options in ASW warfare which is why I said "Integrated Armada". Apart from airborne crafts both rotary and winged using varied sensors like sonabouys or hydrophones to surface combatants with towed or hull mounted Sonar (passive or active) we have our extensive eyes in the sky satellites being one of them (with very high resolution) beyond what obtains anywhere else in the region. It allows us to map the waters of the continent and understand the character of the enemy. Training and experience helps calculate and determine where, when or how assets are moved including subs which is why I said "we know them before we sail".

What obtains now in SSA or questionably Africa as a whole as Subs is only suitable for littoral defence and indequate cos ships have endurance, the sub would snorkel, want to change depth or may send radio signal at some point to base and it's bingo.

Crude intelligence is also a factor. Warfare is not just buying guns, boats and planes. It is more intelligence. Experts know this and they concurred Nigeria's Navy could show up off Cape Town if provoked. Nobody is saying war but in gun boat diplomacy statements are made with presence just like they did.

Don't think otherwise only we don't give out specific details. Crude methods are still applied in today's trade craft. So Nairaland is not off limits. But I'll still speak in parables. Those that have ears let them hear. Finally I don't comprehend the motive of some who pick on knowledge to take potshots.

Anyway...

That's the danger with only relying on news reports. You're quoting from the initial order of 12 back in 2012. Those 7 were only assembled in Uganda. Since then, Twiga has moved production to Uganda and only the engines are re-manufactured in SA. The annual figures are there in the NCACC reports of how many of these engines are exported to Uganda.

Yet another example of others eating our lunch.
We were testing jet-powered UAVs as far back as 1989 sad.
Hell, we even went into stealth UAVs with the Flowchart technology demonstrator. If memory serves, out of Flowchart came the Seraph in about 1996, able to fly 1 300 km at a speed of Mach 0.83 at 40 000 ft, carrying an 80 kg payload of either optical cameras, a synthetic aperture radar or electronic surveillance sensors. sad angry sad angry sad angry

Overberg Test Range hosts first flight of jet-propelled UAV
Airbus Defence and Space (ADS) used Denel’s Overberg Test Range (OTR) for the successful testing of a new aircraft type that will aid development of future unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for series production.

The unmanned jet-propelled demonstrator with the project name SAGITTA flew completely autonomously for around seven minutes over the test site in South Africa’s Southern Cape, on a pre-programmed course. The innovative flying-wing construction demonstrated excellent flight characteristics during the test according to an Airbus statement. This flight marked the successful completion of the first test phase, which included an extensive series of ground tests.

Yep. The amount that's transferred to the SDA is public and reflects in Budget documents. What is secret is how the funds are utilised. Even that is not entirely secret in 2 ways:
1) It is audited by the Office of the Auditor General (unlike during Apartheid when it was completely hands off and allowed for all sorts of abuses) and the DoD accounts for it to the Joint Standing Committee on Defence, albeit behind closed doors;
2) Purchases made abroad via the SDA don't remain secret for long as sellers have to file their arms exports with the UN (which is why I chortle to myself when someone claims secret acquisitions).

Finally, the budget for acquisitions for the Special Forces Brigade is also run through the SDA. What they buy from domestic suppliers is completely secret of course, as Denel, Truvelo etc only have to declare export sales. What they buy abroad may be secret for a little while until the foreign supplier files what and to whom they sold. A recent example: we now know SF bought SAKO TRG sniper rifles, silencers and accessories cos Finland recently filed its arms export report with the UN.

What about those chain guns though?

Shhhh...they fell off the back of a truck wink. Like NATO's Link 11 data link -which they snootily told us, "You buy non-NATO Swedish jets? No NATO data link for you." Well, that also fell off the back of a truck and we developed Link ZA -analogous to their Link 16 (and perfectly compatible as proven in the Good Hope Exercises) faster than the 20 years it took them. grin

After all, it's going to take us a very long time to track and close down all those hundreds of global front companies set up to circumvent sanctions during Apartheid. "African time" and all that... grin grin grin
