This is one of the most educative and entertaining thread on Nairaland in recent times. Good job, naptu2 ![]() To be honest, I listened to Manu Dibango's 'Ma ko makoss', and although it's really nice, I prefer MJ's version. It's more upbeat. It is so irksome that foreign artists keep stealing beats from Africans. Come to think of it, I never knew Tee Mac was such a huge artist in his day. Wow! 'Fly Robin, Fly', huh? Triple wow |

THE Carlos Santana also collaborated with a Nigerian? I'm in awe. I find the cover jacket for the Fela and Ginger Baker collaboration quite offensive. I don't know if I'm being over sensitive but...why does the burly white man have to tower over the skinny black man? Why did they have to position Baker in such a way that it seems like he is dominating the blackman (looking down), while the blackman seems to cower (looking up)? |

Orlando Julius and the Godfather of Soul, James Brown! Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!! ![]() Whether anyone agrees with me or not, the collaborations of yesteryears had better entertainment value and quality than these ones done by our present crop of Nigerian artistes. I will make an exception for D'banj and Snoop Dogg. Their collabo is one that I admire. Unfortunately, it seems like Kanye West and his satanism swallowed up D'banj's star because when he joined them, everything went downhill for him. |

naptu2: Sunny had a special place in my heart at this time. I was very ill c1984 and there was a radio beside my bed. They kept playing Gbeyo Gbeyo over and over and that song practically brought me back to life. Listening to that song in the place between sleep and wake is simply magical (or maybe it was just the drugs. Who knows?)My boss, I love the song like kilode! Gbeyo gbeyo Mo si a gbeyo Abere ma I gbe saso o Ma gbeyo Egbe mi a ma ti gbese yo o Eh eh Eh ah |

Ishilove:Wao you got real taste in music for mentioning an icon in beautiful music and that is Orlando Julius however you spoil the whole thing mentioning D'banj vs Snoop Haba that's a wrong exception on your path. It is a sin to mention crappy and classless songs of D'banj and his group in the same sentence when mentioning Orlando Julius please. |

Ishilove:See my sister I always respect those that witnessed the era of good music in the 80s but when I see the same people mentioning dbanj and beautiful music I see it as insult to good music. Trust me, you can't be a fan of good music in the 80s and you are mentioning crappy songs of dbanj in the same sentence naaahhhh. Dbanj sings thrash. |

Me too... But I can't remember who sang the song KingTom: |
| Re: 50 Collaborations Between Nigerian And Foreign Artistes by Ishilove: 4:45pm On Jul 22, 2017 |
Ratello:Oh trust me, I am fan of old music. The 60s, 70s and 80s are my favourite musical years because that was when the most enduring classics were made. It still doesn't mean I will completely write off 21st century music. Yes, they are mostly trash but we have some that stand out. I'm not saying the D'banj is an exceptional artist, but he had his fine moments. |

| Re: 50 Collaborations Between Nigerian And Foreign Artistes by nkemdi89(f): 4:54pm On Jul 22, 2017 |
The truth of the matter is, collaborations of those days were based on inspiration and the result was always a class of masterpiece. Unlike what we have now where Nigerian and African artists pay foreign musicians heavily in order to be featured in their music without little or no interest or zeal, thereby churning out not so impressive music, but just an ego booster. Imagine when a foreign artist will just sing only few lines that has liitle impacts on the track. Music of today is just for dance and no inspiration, and with time they fade, when another set is released. |
