Updated Jul 15, 2016 I am a Muslim, and I’m Indonesian. Indonesia is the country who have the largest Muslim population. I’m going anonymous to prevent ad hominem argument. Because this is sensitive issue in my country. Before you attack me personally, I studied in Islamic school and have additional private Quranic education for 9 years, I active in Islamic Organization for 6 years in High School. I am fresh-graduate student. Some people say people misunderstand Islam (blaming others), but I think it isn’t. It is because Muslim who implement and behave Islamic teaching in inter-religious community who doesn’t know how to behave peace, calm, and don’t know how to argue, and respond critiques and difference. First lesson. Self-Introspect. You can’t control other people (other religious), but you can control your own people. Isn’t it? Notes: Indonesia got much illiterate people (can’t/don’t finish their school). “They” who I refer in this text is them and opportunist-Islamic-Politician, conservative-Islamic-politician, radical-Islamic-Organization that using them in political activity. When Islam got critiques, they fought back like “But you did it too!” “Why only us who got the critiques, not the (mention the Americas, Western, and the other villain), who do that too!”. After that, they mention our “false” according to them. People got antipathy for that behaviour. When you got critiques, you have to do self-introspects. They don’t respect different argument. But it is normal and healthy to have a debate or different arguments in democratic country like Indonesia. They called/provoked/labelled people like us “kafir! / Satan”“liberal!” “colonial!” “asing! / foreigner” “capitalist!” “Zionist!” but don’t have a better counter-argument for us. They mocked us, they insult us, they call that “conspiracy” (they bring Zionist Jews, Freemason, Chinese-Communist story). After that, another people like them when they know us, they just using our label, whatever our argument is. In short. Hasty Generalization They think Muslim who have different opinion from them as liberal-Muslim or Islam traitor. Black-or-White. For some people here, that label is a bit little harsh. They think people who criticizes or scrutiny Ulamas, (Muslim Leader) Ustadz (Muslim teacher), Islamic Activist, Islamic Party, Muslim Organization as insulting Islam. They even don’t believe that terrorist suspect when He happened to be Muslim, they say it is a conspiracy. But in my opinion, maybe Islam is always right, but Muslim can be wrong sometimes. Back to point no. 2 They (usually lower-class or lower-educated or conservatives-politician) think Muslim scholars who got western study, even has studied in Middle-East University (people who get better educated) isn’t allowed argue about Islam and only their traditional Ulamas who can do that (information-monopoly). Back to point no. 3 When it comes to Muslim who got some achievement (like winning competition, inventor, winning election as President, Mayor etc) They called it Islam Achievement. But maybe He is inventor who happened to be Muslim. But when It comes to bad thing happened with Islam such as ISIS, Al Qaeda, Terrorist-Frame that give by media, they denied it. They call “ISIS is not Islam” bla-bla-bla. Furthermore, they called it “western conspiracy”. I’m sick for that double standard. Back to lesson no. 1, Self-Introspect. Newton’s Third Law of Motion. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. They always says that western medias is bias. OK, assume that true. But two wrong don’t make it right. They created another so-called “Ummat/ Islamic Media” that is more bias even don’t get journalistic standard. When we ask that, back to point no. 1 Muslim in Indonesia is a majority (about 83%) but Indonesia is not sharia-country like Malaysia (even it’s only 60% Muslim). We are civil-law country. They often say (specifically in politics, demonstration, legislation & regulation debate) they can do anything (like implements some sharia-laws) to minority just because Islam is majority here. Example: You (Restaurant-Owner) can’t sell food in Ramadan in middle noon, and local-police throw-away your food there. Small Christian community (<50 people) can’t build a church when is not approved by 90 neighbors and have struggle more than 4 years to advocate it. Islam enter this country via India/Arabic merchant/trader. Islam in Java Island is popularized by 9 people called “Wali Songo” who make acculturation Islam and Javanese Culture. Islam is brought to this country with peace. But in this after democracy era, because point no. 6, some Islam-organization (not terrorist, only radical) doing “Dakwah” by radical. Example: They doing police jobs to destroy night club, alcohol (legal-limited), even destroy different “mazhab” mosque. When TV or Media criticize them, they attack the office, not respond with counter-argument. They always justify their action buy calling that “Amar Ma’ruf Nahi Munkar” (an Islamic concept that order people and engage other people to do the right things and avoid bad things) that is debatable on implementation when dealing with national law or nationalism concept. People who converted to Muslim believe Islam is a peace religion. And those organization make Islam image politically more hatred. Isn’t Muslim people is happy when more people converted to Islam peacefully and willingly? Like people in this thread who says some rules in Islam that is confusing and order you to do violence. That ‘ayat’ (phrase in Quran and Hadith) always used in campaign. Example: Don’t choose Christian and Jews to be your leader ayat is used when political campaign. Another: Hadith that told you to kill the Homosexual when LGBT issues is arrising. I think the teaching is not wrong and it isn’t fake, but have to be careful in implementation and communicate with another beliefs (inter-religion dialogue). In democracy, we have to compromise. Don’t to much use strict-to-the-phrase-communication to other religion. It called “provocation”/Hate speech |

More answers: Fawad Ahmed, 23, Bangladesh, now an atheist I left Islam because of my sister. She refused to accept a rival wife to share her husband. This was an eye-opener to me. Other factors which made me to hate Islam were the oppression of women and the killing of innocent people in south of Sudan in the name of Jihad. I have written a novel which reveals the cruelty of Islam towards women. It is called: Intisar: A Story of a Muslim Girl. Dr. A.A.Ahmed, Sudan, now a Christian I was born and raise a Muslim. My father had no problem with delivering harsh beatings on me for making mistakes when he was teaching me the Quran. Naturally, I spent the first 14 years of my life thinking that this was the true religion, and that I would go to hell. I was always convinced that Islam was true due to the 'Quran miracle claims' which were all over the web, which satisfied me into thinking that I was definitely following the true religion, despite the fact that, being the fool I was at the time, I had not even bothered to READ the 'miracle claims'. Ironically, it was Wikiislam that caused me to have doubts about my faith. I stumbled upon it while searching for information about my religion, and decided to 'have a look round'. I came across the page detailing scientific errors in the Quran. Being the naive person I was, I couldn't believe that the 'Holy' Quran would have scientific errors. I began investigating further into these errors, and I soon found that these WERE genuine errors, meaning that the Quran was indeed false. Therefore, I secretly declared myself an apostate, and became a supporter of Ali Sina, Richard Dawkins and the Council of Ex Muslims. Ultimately, I am glad that I have left Islam, and am happy at the freedom I now have since leaving this religion. I would like to thank Wikiislam for providing me with the turning point in my life, and giving me the information I needed to leave this awful Religion |

Islam is evil, evil, evil, satanic, and shekau, bin laden, etc is a prove. They didn't come into the world with heart. Islam as well takes away the heart of her followers and hide them under satans bosom. Only Jesus can bring them out. |

More answers: Please don’t use this as an opportunity to bash 1.6 billion Muslims. I am not sure if you guys know, but I have Muslim friends and neighbors. Muslims serve side by side Jews in the IDF and one of the most passionate Zionists I know is Muslim. I critiqued one behavior. I think there are some aspects to all religions which are frightening, but here’s one that bothers me, the holiest country to Muslims is Saudi Arabia, and the holiest cities are found there. But the behavior feels quite unholy to me and I think it’s something Islam can improve. There’s very little public disgust about Mecca practicing religious apartheid. I’m shocked and saddened to see a city in the twenty first century, where the roads are actually segregated by religion. I also don’t understand how there isn’t more public protest against the lack of freedom of religion there. According to the State Department, non-Muslims of different faiths who engage in overt religious activity have been subject to “ arrest, imprisonment, lashing, deportation, and sometimes torture” Saudi Arabia There are churches and mosques in the Jewish state of Israel. There are no churches or synagogues in Saudi Arabia. There are churches and mosques in the Jewish state of Israel. There are no churches or synagogues in Saudi Arabia. My Muslim friend can eat dinner with me near my home in Jerusalem. I can’t eat dinner with him near his home in Mecca. Hypothetically, he could have tea in my living room if we were chaperoned but not in his living room, because as a Jew, I can’t enter the city. (Why chaperone? It’s his religious requirement since I’m an unmarried woman.) My friend can pray in Jerusalem, wear his traditional clothing, observe his faith publicly. I can’t pray in Mecca (if I wanted to), wear a Magen David necklace or observe my faith publicly. Jews and Muslims celebrating their faiths openly. I think Muslims who enjoy the freedom of religion in other countries should work harder to bring that freedom back to the cradle of their faith.

Here is an open and honest discussion. I don’t dislike Islam, but I hate the human rights abuses of conservative Muslim nations. I also hate that some liberals hesitate to condemn these behaviors. Honestly, I never thought I'd see the day when liberals defend people whose laws treats women as second-class citizens. The legality of spousal rape, the practice of polygyny, arranged marriages in which women have no say, the fact that a woman’s testimony is worth exactly half a man’s in court: it surprises me that liberals ignore this stuff. I scratch my head whenever an American-Muslim woman comes on MSNBC to explain her choice to wear the headscarf. Is she supposed to be speaking for all Muslim woman? At least she has a choice; tens of millions of Muslim women don’t. An Iranian women caught not wearing a headscarf will receive 70 lashes or 60 days imprisonment. Seventy lashes! That’s barbaric. Do we assume that Muslim women embrace this culture? If they do, why did 100,000 Iranian women protest mandatory headscarf-wearing in Iran? Maybe to Muslim-Americans, it is a choice; but I want every Muslim women to have that choice: Iranian, Saudi, etc This image is of an Indonesian woman in the province of Aceh. In Aceh, they have Sharia Police. In 2007, a Saudi woman was gang-raped by seven men. She received 200 lashes and six months in jail for speaking to the media about the crime. Source: Rape victim sentenced to 200 lashes and six months in jail In Saudi Arabia, women must be accompanied by male chaperone (called a ‘Mahram’) in public. They legally cannot drive a car, use public swimming pools (reserved for men), compete in sports, open a bank account without a male guardian, or even try on clothes in a dressing room. This is a problem. No American or British woman would ever consent to this. Why shouldn’t we fight for their rights as well? Here is an interesting graph by Pew Research. The report found that countries with the most gender inequality and restrictions of women’s freedoms also required the most conservative dress for women

I dislike Islam because of its hypocrisy & double standards. Due to shortage of time I am going to give just one example. Here is the verse Muslims often quote whenever there is a terrorist attack or some ex-Muslim is killed. According to this verse there is “no compulsion in religion”. Seems very peaceful, isn’t it? But wait a minute! This is the traditional view of Sunni and Shia Islamic fiqhs, or schools of jurisprudence (maḏāhib) on apostasy each with their own interpretation of Quran & Hadeeths:[81][82][83] Hanafi – recommends three days of imprisonment before execution, although the delay before killing the Muslim apostate is not mandatory. Apostates who are men must be killed, states the Hanafi Sunni fiqh, while women must be held in solitary confinement and beaten every three days till they recant and return to Islam.[84] Maliki – allows up to ten days for recantation, after which the apostate must be killed. Both men and women apostates deserve death penalty according to the traditional view of Sunni Maliki fiqh.[83] Shafi'i – waiting period of three days is required to allow the Muslim apostate to repent and return to Islam. After the wait, execution is the traditional recommended punishment for both men and women apostates.[83] Hanbali – waiting period not necessary, but may be granted. Execution is traditional recommended punishment for both genders of Muslim apostates.[83] Ja'fari – waiting period not necessary, but may be granted according to this Shia fiqh. Male apostate must be executed, states the Jafari fiqh, while a female apostate must be held in solitary confinement till she repents and returns to Islam.[83][84] Shocked ? So what led leading Muslim scholars to interpret apostasy this way? Here is the complete story:The above mentioned verse about “no compulsion in religion” was released during Meccan times when Muslims were a tiny minority. They expected tolerance from others & thats why Muhammad released this verse. However when Muslims became dominant & powerful in the city state of Medina it was time for Muhammad to show his true colours. Here are some of his sayings on this topic: Bukhari 84: 57- [In the words of] "Allah's Apostle, 'Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.'" Bukhari 83: 37- "Allah's Apostle never killed anyone except in one of the following three situations: (1) A person who killed somebody unjustly, was killed (in Qisas,) (2) a married person who committed illegal sexual intercourse and (3) a man who fought against Allah and His Apostle and deserted Islam and became an apostate." Bukhari 84: 58 - "There was a fettered man beside Abu Muisa. Mu'adh asked, 'Who is this (man)?' Abu Muisa said, 'He was a Jew and became a Muslim and then reverted back to Judaism.' Then Abu Muisa requested Mu'adh to sit down but Mu'adh said, 'I will not sit down till he has been killed. This is the judgment of Allah and His Apostle (for such cases) and repeated it thrice.' Then Abu Musa ordered that the man be killed, and he was killed. Abu Musa added, 'Then we discussed the night prayers'"Bukhari 11: 626 - "The Prophet said, 'No prayer is harder for the hypocrites than the Fajr and the 'Isha' prayers and if they knew the reward for these prayers at their respective times, they would certainly present themselves (in the mosques) even if they had to crawl.' The Prophet added, 'Certainly I decided to order the Mu'adh-dhin (call-maker) to pronounce Iqama and order a man to lead the prayer and then take a fire flame to burn all those who had not left their houses so far for the prayer, along with their houses'." “Bukhari 52:260 - "...The Prophet said, 'If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.' " In addition to these, many verses in the Qur’an were released during this time promoting hatred for non-Muslims & apostates. In short Islam isn’t what we hear about it from Muslims & many liberals alike. Its an expansionist idealogy that violently oppresses its criticism |

Religious Hypocrisy : Many people have said that Islam and muslims get anger directed at them for being hypocrites when it comes to religion. Muslims (atleast the vocal ones) are all for talking about the good of Islam and the bad of every other faith (whether their points are right or wrong) and they expect everyone else to take their complaints/advice in good faith even if it’s wrong/right/inflammatory/insulting/respectful/disrespectful etc. On the other hand, anyone makes a complaint (right or wrong) about Islam then you get all the screaming murders out-there (Compare what happened after Hussein's insulting artwork about Hindu Goddesses or the Passion of Christ and what happened after “Innocence of Muslims” trailer - 50 dead and thousands wounded in 20 countries.). This hypocrisy is making people angry, what they feel is this : “Why can you complain [right or wrong] about everything I like while I can’t do so about what you like?” {NOTE: The frequently thrown PC/Shaming/Marxist phrases like “Islamophobia” “You hate ALL muslims” etc and the constant deflection (they did it etc) doesn’t help either} Double Standards : No reciprocity or equality. Followers of Islam want fair treatment and complete religious/conversion freedom in other countries/religions. They want everyone to respect their faith and their practices no matter how inconvenient to the native population. On the other hand, when Islam is a majority or runs a country, they refuse to do the same in return. Conversion away from Islam means death or prison, all other faiths get suppressed or persecuted, forced conversions, moral police and worse. As History shows, double standards leads to hatred and revolution (Freedom struggles against Colonial powers, French revolution, etc) NOTE: I do have a lot of muslim friends and understand the religion well. That’s why I am confident of these two points - it came up frequently in our discussion and was made by my friends who were abused after they started talking about communal (in this case the Muslim community) responsibility after various double standards (Afzal guru celebrations, the Rotherham scandals, etc). When something happens, we always say : “As Indians/Americans/Japanese/Hindu/Buddhist/Christians/etc” we have to stand up to this problem amongst us and people do stand up without getting shouted down by the PC police with words like “-phobia” etc and not getting murdered like the various atheists in Bangladesh and elsewhere. This difference in behavior is why there is more hate and fear towards Islam - the double standard creates more fear and a sense of oppression/crisis. So want to solve the hate? It’s simple : Treat others the way you want to be treated ; With Equal Rights and Responsibilities |

More answers : 18,000 deadly terror attacks committed explicitly in the name of Islam in just the last ten years. (Other religions combined for perhaps a dozen or so). #2 Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, had people killed for insulting him or for criticizing his religion. This included women. Muslims are told to emulate the example of Muhammad. #3 Muhammad said in many places that he has been "ordered by Allah to fight men until they testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is his messenger." In the last nine years of his life, he ordered no less than 65 military campaigns to do exactly that. Muhammad inspired his men to war with the basest of motives, using captured loot, sex and a gluttonous paradise as incentives. He beheaded captives, enslaved children and raped women captured in battle. Again, Muslims are told to emulate the example of Muhammad. #4 After Muhammad died, the people who lived with him and knew his religion best immediately fell into war with each other. Fatima, Muhammad's favorite daughter, survived the early years among the unbelievers at Mecca safe and sound, yet died of stress from the persecution of fellow Muslims only six months after her father died. She even miscarried Muhammad's grandchild after having her ribs broken by the man who became the second caliph. It was the same caliph, Umar, who ordered the death of the first convert to Islam at Medina, an elderly leader who became a close companion to Muhammad and proved his worth in battle. Sa'd ibn Ubadah was killed after a failed bid to be caliph. Fatima's husband Ali, who was the second convert to Islam and was raised like a son to Muhammad, fought a civil war against an army raised by Aisha, Muhammad's favorite wife - and one whom he had said was a "perfect woman." 10,000 Muslims were killed in a single battle waged less than 25 years after Muhammad's death. Three of the first four Muslim rulers (caliphs) were murdered. All of them were among Muhammad's closest companions. The third caliph was killed by allies of the son of the first (who was murdered by the fifth caliph a few years later, then wrapped in the skin of a dead donkey and burned). The fourth caliph (Ali) was stabbed to death after a bitter dispute with the fifth. The fifth caliph went on to poison one of Muhammad's two favorite grandsons. The other grandson was later beheaded by the sixth caliph. The infighting and power struggles between Muhammad's family members, closest companions and their children only intensified with time. Within 50 short years of Muhammad's death, even the Kaaba, which had stood for centuries under pagan religion, lay in ruins from internal Muslim war... And that's just the fate of those within the house of Islam! #5 Muhammad directed Muslims to wage war on other religions and bring them under submission to Islam. Within the first few decades following his death, his Arabian companions invaded and conquered Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist and Zoroastrian lands. A mere 25 years after Muhammad's death, Muslim armies had captured land and people within the borders of over 28 modern countries outside of Saudi Arabia. #6 Muslims continued their Jihad against other religions for 1400 years, checked only by the ability of non-Muslims to defend themselves. To this day, not a week goes by that Islamic fundamentalists do not attempt to kill Christians, Jews, Hindus and Buddhists explicitly in the name of Allah. None of these other religions are at war with each other. #7 Islam is the only religion that has to retain its membership by formally threatening to kill anyone who leaves. This is according to the example set by Muhammad. #8 Islam teaches that non-Muslims are less than fully human. Muhammad said that Muslims can be put to death for murder, but that a Muslim could never be put to death for killing a non-Muslim. #9 The Quran never once speaks of Allah's love for non-Muslims, but it speaks of Allah's cruelty toward and hatred of non-Muslims more than 500 times. #10 "Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!" (The last words from the cockpit of Flight 93) |

So I am a very friendly person, likes to party and enjoy life while it lasts. I respect different cultures, love to hangout with everyone and I ended up throwing a house party. I invited everyone from all walks of life irrespective of religion, region and color. You knew house party has music, alcohol and probably few people may hookup. It’s their life, their decision, big deal??. Now you could have totally avoided invitation to come to the party, stayed at your place and respected yourself. But you chose to come to my party, tell everyone that alcohol is bad, no one should drink alcohol, girls should not dress in a certain way, it provokes men. Don’t do this, don’t do that. bla bla Why would you go to someone else’s house (who by the way, always respect your ways and invited you as a friend with respect) and promote your ways? On top of that, you brought 10 more people with same mentality and mindset and scale up your agenda. This is just a short story, happened to one the house parties I went to last year. But can be used as answer to above question. Let’s respect others only if they respect us. |
