Experience has taught me never to lend out amount I cannot give... I stopped going out of my way to borrow people some money when I borrowed a guy 16k out of 17k5 I had in earth and heaven promised to pay in 3 days...

I collected my money back with fight in about 4 installation payment after 3 months...

People don't learn. I remember back in sch den I borrowed my last card 2 a frnd to settle accommodation issues. Na so o baby travel go port harcourt and recklessly abandoned me to my fate.

A bank in Nigeria has a policy of spending any amount required to bring fraudsters to book, same for bad debtors
People and staff who want to defraud don't try their stuff with the bank because they know they will not have peace

Now that may be true but do you realize that banks have insurance for such things? I agree that it may serve as deterrent to fraudsters but has it, in the case of nigeria? Well, it should be the job of the police or similar authorities to carry out the investigation and prosecute the offenders, but as this is naija, the banks will have to be on top of the matter and probably spend more than is involved to deter others.

If you have lived in the first world countries, it is not done that way. Financial institutions cut their losses and move on quickly. They may sell your case to collectors who try as much as possible to get anything from you. If the collectors don't succeed in getting something, they report you to credit bureau. It impacts your credit rating and limits your ability to get loans and grants, as the case may be.

Every penny is insured. Insurance companies write off such debts. Fraud will surely involve police but not debt. At worst case scenario, the debtor will declare bankruptcy. It is an option. grin

I av a friend that his always broke n av d abit of borrow from me, when u don't borrow him, he term it to you being proud n blackmail me emotionally, when u eventually borrow him, just ask me of d dept den u automatically become a bad friend dt cannot help friends. sometimes I just imagine how shameless someone could be borrowing always , not paying and till keep on borrowing from d same person

It's not about not being able to do without it but about people being ungrateful and not keeping to their word.
