Before slavery, we had nothing in common with white people culturally, language, politically. We were independent nations running on our own. There's no place in Africa where formal use of English began before white domination. It was during colonialism of Africa, officially put at 1880-1960's that English became a formal language in any part of Africa. So, yes, it was same Europeans that held us hostage before independence that forced their languages on us as a formal language and the language of learning. They deliberately planted their language in all their colonies before leaving in order to create people like you who would worship them forever. Please get this correction now.

Nations like Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, even China was also colonized, but once they got their independence they reverted back to their original/native languages as formal language and language of learning.

Do you know your masters Britain was also colonized? Do you know English was not the official language in Britain until 1362?

For your information, between the 4th century AD to 1,000 AD, Britain was colonized by Germany, Greece, French, Rome, Spain. During their colonialism, Britain spoke anything from French, German, Latin, Greek, depending on the colonial power. Do you know Isaac Newton was not educated in English? He acquired his education in Greek, Latin, French. They were banned from speaking their native Angles language- which is how they learned to force Nigeria to speak their language during colonialism of Africa.

I don't have time to write epistles cause I have said it on this forum several times, so let me get straight to how it eventually ended for Britain.

Once Britain regained their freedom, the first thing they did was ban the speaking of all foreign languages in the entire British Isle. They then adopted their native Angles language (English) as their official language. The year was 1362, and it was only then that English became an official language!!. That's why we need take control over our native languages and make them a priority, cause that's exactly what Britain did.

How ironic, today you still want to remain a slave to English; when English people themselves once banned the language of their enslavement to build the English language you so love?

Stop accepting an inferior status imposed on you by foreigners. The fact that our ancestors accepted this inferior status adopting the language of foreigners over ours doesn't mean you should keep worshiping the language of foreigners today. Open your eyes and understand we had a life before we met white people. Open your eyes and let's be proud of using our language as formal language and the language of learning , like the Japanese, Koreans, Russian, Germans, Chinese, Vietnamese.

Please refer to the response I gave the other guy on the origin of Pidgin. There's no hypocrisy making Pigin our official language, cause we invented it. Pidgin is our own creation, not white man's creation. Of course, the purpose of education in Africa is to make you consider anything of our creation as inferior. So, I can understand why you consider Pidgin inferior, but English language you adore so much was also spoken as Pidgin in Britain- see details on video posted earlier. The Angles creole/Pidgin was standardized in 1362. It was only then it became an official language.

Before independence means anything from before and during slavery or and before and during colonialism. The language was already in use because Europeans was already at work installing their languages in all their colonies, not just in Nigeria, but all over the world. And no, those countries have more languages than Nigeria. Indonesia has over 6,000 Islands with people speaking various languages- Indonesian, Java, Malay, Mandarin, Chinese, Hindu, e.t.c. There's no country in the world that's as ethnically diverse as Indonesia!!. When it comes to ethnic diversity, Nigeria haven't even begin, "Nigeria still dey learn for wey Indonesia dey". How about Malaysia? Malaysia has over 3,000 Islands with people speaking various languages. Vietnam the same.

Both Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, took a conscious decision to reclaim their various native languages once they re-gained their freedom and independence. They looked back in history and they discovered what other colonized countries before them did. So, problem is not diversity at all. Problem is the level of our indoctrination in Africa runs deep. This's why no matter what evidence shown you of how other people (like Britain) reclaimed their language, you still feel comfortable in the comfort zone we've been indoctrinated to remain. This's why Dr. Carter. G Woodson writing in his book; the mis-education of the Negro said "when you control a man's thinking, you do not have to worry about his actions. You do not have to tell him not to stand here or go yonder. He will find his (proper place) and will stay in it. You do not need to send him to the back door. He will go without being told. In fact, if there is no back door, he will cut one for his special benefit. His education makes it necessary".

You're the one now defending English language and rationalizing why we can't do without it, even when you've been shown others had done away with it. You're the one choosing to remain at the back door as it was designed. The whole of what's called education in Africa was designed to make you do exactly that!!.

Even South Sudan that has English as its official language would have made the list. Someone I know who has been there once told me that outside of Juba,there are very few who can communicate in English. So,why these few countries?

The = De
Where= wey
Be= bi

Again, Pidgin is a language of its own created by West Africans, not by white people. English got added into the mix when Europeans arrived here. There are still other surviving African creoles; like LINGALA spoken in the two Congo's , and it a mixture of several native former Zaire languages now Congo Brazaville and Congo Democratic. Lingala has little or nothing to do with French, even though Congo was colonized by France.

If we didn't have any contact with Europeans, Pidgin would have been even more popular language in the entire "Niger-area" without English or French influence.

About English originating from former colonizers of Britain, that's exactly what I told you earlier.

I see it that way cos that's how it is. The truth is; the e.gs you gave are originally english words which face change in pronunciation and spelling if your wish is to be granted.

That's how the English language you adore evolved. Over 90% of the terminologies in your science class are Greek, Latin, French, e.t.c.

There're also other words such as:-

And many more that has nothing to do with English phonetics or spelling.

You really believe Africans didn't communicate ourselves until Europeans arrived? Did they also teach you it was Lord Lugard and his wife that taught us how to speak?

Hausa is spoken in Nigeria, Chad, Niger, Mali, and many more West African countries.
Swahili is spoken in Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, and many more East African countries.
Lingala is spoken in Congo Brazzaville and Congo democratic.
Pidgin is spoken in Nigeria, Ghana, Benin republic, Niger, Mali, Sierra-Leone, Liberia, Gambia, and many more countries.
Yoruba is spoken in Nigeria, Benin republic, Togo Republic, part of Ghana.

This is to mention a few I can readily remember.
